Alright the guy sold the dana 60 I found a while back but he has another that is a DRW 4.56 and he said he has the hubs to convert it over. If I put the SRW hubs on it will it be the same as a SRW? Thanks!
Anyways I have to switch the hubs over which I don't think should be hard. I need to get a list of parts for everything I want to do. Here is what I got...
Here she is! I picked up this beauty for a cool $650 with SRW hubs to convert. Now I haven't had a chance to dig into her yet because my son's dog has been missing for three days and we found her dead today under the front porch. Don't know what happened.Anyways I have to switch the hubs over which I don't think should be hard. I need to get a list of parts for everything I want to do. Here is what I got...
Detroit locker
35 spline stubs
U joints
Drive flanges
Kingpin rebuild hit
Fittings to convert brake lines
Anything else I should get or do while I am at it?

Are there any special tools I will need to install the detroit? I best deal I found for a detroit was on completeoffroad.com. Anybody know of any better deals out there for a new one? Thanks!
EDIT: Will I need any kind of install kit or anything else? Thanks again!

You definitely need to do more research on the installation of a Detroit in a D60 if you are planning on doing it yourself. Not trying to give you a hard time, but if you are asking the above questions you should probably consider finding a shop to do it.
Yes, you need some tools that the average home mechanic typically does not have. And yes, I would suggest buying some sort of setup kit as you will definitely need shims and likely will not want to try to remove the old carrier bearings and put them back on the Detroit.
I wouldn't consider this job hard, but it is rather involved and you need to know what you are doing to make sure it is setup within spec.

To install a Detroit you will need to reset the backlash, which requires a dial indicator and some shims.
I have never been able to get the bearings off of a D60 carrier without destroying them, so plan on replacing those. When you are changing the backlash, you will want to use setup bearings (basically an old set of bearings that has had the ID ground out a little so that they barely slide on and off without a press).
With setup bearings, you can change the shims without pressing the bearings on and off each time (if you decide to undertake this project I'll loan you my D60 setup bearings if you want).
Really, installing a full carrier locker isn't too hard. You just need to change shims around until the backlash is in spec and then press on the new bearings.
Thanks for your help!
