I got the tires.*HMMWV wheel question post 96*

I might have found a set of tires, the guys wants $400 for them and they are a 3 hour drive away. But, they are 39.5x15x16.5's I have H1 wheels, but I'd either need to recenter them or get spacers. What would CK5 do, get these tires and rock them till they're slicks and keep looking for what I want for the 17's or don't bother with them and keep looking. Also I know it's prefered to recenter, but has anyone run spacers and actually had a problem? What size spacers would I need, 2"?

is that water in the far right one?

I'd rock them while looking for another set. I'd still keep both sets if I found something in a 17". These would be my more aggressive tire.

It looks like water to me, but there is still the question of whether to recenter my H1's or get spacers?

There was a guy on here that ran stock H1's with 2" spacers all the way around without issues. He lived in Pascagoula (I think) but moved to Cali (military), I can't remember his user name - real nice truck.

I run dually hubs and a set of 2 5/8 spacers on teh rear with stock h1's and 39.5s, here's a driveway pic:

$400 seems high, especially to drive 6 hours for. I got my Swampers with the little rubber nipples still on off Craigslist mounted on brand new rims for 500$. I was able to sell the rims for $200. My tires are only 33x12.5x15 so certainly not as expensive new, but those tires look like they seen some use.

With the hassle of getting them mounted, and the cost at least where I am of 25$ per wheel. Unless your using the h1s and mounting yourself i would not want to waste time or money on a tire that wasnt new or like new.

Have you checked intercos blems for a good deal?

I know readymix, when I swapped my rear in I didn't have a welder or have access to one, so he came out to the house and welded up my spring perches for me. He did move back to Cali...

I work at a shop and mounting tires is what I do daily. Plus I'd be putting them on the H1's so that's no big deal.
I've been looking locally at craigslist for years and have never found any tires that I've wanted.
I also regularly look at Interco's blems and they never have what I want.
The guy says they have about 65% tread left.

Just so you know I also have a spare set of dually hubs and spacers if you are interested.

Let me know what you'd want for the hubs and spacers plus whatever shipping would be. I might be interested depending on if I end up getting the tires.

The coopers are great tires, Ive had a couple sets and been happy. Have you looked at the Guard Dogs that Trail Worthy Fab has? A friend has some and has been pretty happy, especially for the cost.

33s vs 37+ are not even close to same price. I think that is a fairly good deal. On oar with what I would see around this area

Yeah I understand the 33s are not as expensive new. Sorry if that wasn clear. The op has a tire machine which really changes the ball game. Personally I wouldn't invest in tires that were worn because of the additional cost of pickup and mounting.

Still a 6 hour drive is how much in gas and a loss of a day to look at tires that are worn do much based on hearsay.

I would rather get tires once and be done since the op said he would get these and ride until bald and keep looking.

There and back would cost me roughly $80-$90 in gas total, plus the 1 wasted day. So say total it'll be $500 plus o-rings for the H1's and whatever spacers will cost. Then if I find a set of tires better suited for street use for the 17's then I'll swap when it's time to head to the trail.

I might drive the truck 3,000 miles a year, and that'd be alot, so I'm sure the tires will last me awhile.

Or I could spend that amount for a set of 4 tires on 1 brand new tire...

Keep in mind the adapters/spacers are a couple hundred bucks! that raises the cost a bit, personally for the cost to recenter the h1's I would do that over the spacers, but thats me.:waytogo:

One thing to consider is that spacers will be $100-$150 per pair, do you do the front only or both ends? The dually front hubs are an option but that kills the easy tire swap.

If if it's what you want go for it. No harm in playing a little devils advocate to help you think about it. It's like buying a used car. Does the sunroof and leather affect the value? No. It's about how many miles does it have and how clean it is. Yeah 39.5s are at least 100$ more new apiece than 33s. But, if they have been wheeled hard and beaten what are they really worth? Those side lugs look to have some chunks missing like they have been spun hard through some rocks, and to say 65% is a real accurate estimate. Usually with tires I hear eh theres about half tread gone, or a third gone. I wouldn't buy used brake pads someone said were 65% no matter how high performance they might be.

Again if you like them, go for it you never know until you check them out in person. m1009 blazers rarely show up by me, but I still regret buying one with rotted floors some days.

Right, I know the cost of the adapters/spacers. I'd rather do spacers or recenter just so I could swap on a different set of wheels without swapping hubs.

But even with the cost of spacers it would be cheaper than getting new tires for the 17's.

But nothing is set in stone with the tires yet. The ad is on pirate and there's no telling what the guy will do from now till my nect day off next weekend, so I guess I'll find out Saturday.

But, I'll ask the question again, if I did recenter, I would personally go with the pressed centers. How would I go about doing them myself? Cut out the old centers, drop in the new centers from the back side, measure a million times to make sure they are even, and stitch weld them in?
