Ok guys i have a 85 M1009 blazer with the horrible highway gears 3:11 and a 6.2 deisel that with the banks sidewinder turbo kit is still not enough to turn the bald 33" buckshots i have on it. So, im starting over on this thing. I know what color and what customizations im doing to the body and the interor, but im not that confident with what choices for the new drivetrain all i know is i want a big block, lower gears, lockers, np 205 transfer case, and that i want a gas engine. Idk what type of ingection system i need and im scared of efi, idk how low to go with the gears, what trans will go well with that much power and tires, and last but not least where to get good prices and even locate good products at
all help is welcome

What has scared you about efi? I had the same reservations and once you see how simple a stand alone harness is.. It really changes it for you.

Your project is big enough that I would consider finding one that is already close to what you want and save a ton of money and time... Lots of blazers for sale.

This one is done

Even proper gears and lockers will increase the power feel of that diesel ten fold. Not sure if I'd go changing the whole truck just cause it needs gears.

And if you really want to go with a gas engine upgrade I'd look into a 5.3 or 6.0 swap from a newer truck. The power to be made with those engines is awesome for their size, plus they get decent mileage. Really want a big block, look for an 8.1 to swap in. An absolute powerhouse of an engine in stock form with all of it's fuel injected glory. Don't fear fuel injection. Many benefits to be had with a properly tuned system.

It depends on your tire size you want. I roll with 37" take offs and have 4.56 gears, max speed 55mph and that's at a high rpm. If you go 33" tires, I would say 3.73ish gears would work good with a 205/203 dub for wheeling.

Edit: I have the 6.2 N/A and it's good for me unless towing.

I would look into a 6.oL (or 5.3) swap if I was doing a motor these days. I converted my 4bbl motor to TBI some years back.

It was worth the change over, and wasn't that bad even considering I got a box of wires

3.08 = 31" tires
3.73= 33" tires
4.10= 35" tires
4.56= 37" tires

Or just do a 95-97 12 valve Cummins motor swap and sell me your Banks:-)

Edit: I kinda wish I went with 4.10 gears, 37" tires and a 203/205 dub so I can go faster on the interstate, yet low range with the dub.

ok well i look like we are talking about two different thing here. Im deff changing to gas i love the 23 mpg i get and that turbo sounds awesome once it spools up, but the fact that i cant spind the back tires unless its wet or cut the wheel and punch it. thats no fun for me. Ill look into a efi for a big block but i found a whole new drive train online for a sum of 9000. thats 454 with everything but carb, front and rear axles with 4:26 gears, 700r4 trans, 205 transfer case, and np 205 to 700r4 adapter. im certified body tech. so custom body and paint wont be expencive. and i plan on puting 35" boggers on it.
Now for the the turbo... love the sound and top in power. ive clocked my stock M1009 at 82. After the turbo i got her up to 96 on a gps(u knoe cause the speedometer stops at 85). Now the down side there is no power to this motor untill 15 MPH cause of the low amount of air to fuel. also i think ive cracked one of those dumb aluminum pistons since the install. but as soon as i rip that motor ill sell ur the motor,trans,turbo, and exhaust for 2000.

ok i looked into putting a efi on that 454 i was looking at and a company called fast has a ez-efi and i might be with yall on the fact that that will be the way to go also i got pick of my m1009 with the turbo installed on my profile

I already have a new 3" exhaust. How much for just the turbo components?

to be honest its gona be a whole motor or nothing cause im not about to take that whole kit apart again

If you don't have a motor yet and you want efi, go with a newer engine. If you already have a built gas motor and you want efi, then do a FAST system or something equal to it. If I didn't already have a motor to feed, I would have made the step to a LS engine. You are looking at at least $2500 to finish that FAST system plus a big block engine that hopefully works.

Also, what type of driving are you doing?

EDIT: you asked about my EFI in my picture gallery, I'll answer here you got questions. There are others who have the same system too. If you look up my name and FAST, you'll find my thread.

i abuse this truck im in the stage of taking it apart and repainting and rebuilding it from the ground up. i want the 454 with ez-efi cause its extreamly simple compared to an ls motor. also i found a good to go 454 long block with everything but carb, fuel pump, water pump, and exhaust for 850.00 which is fine with me cause ill probably be putting twin turbos on it and need to start with a basic block. compared to a 2000-10000 dollar ls motor that doesnt have near the possibilitys of the 454... No replacement for displacment. ive posted pic of it on my profile

I know guys getting 500 hp out of a 6.0 with a cam and a hot tune.

The ONLY mods on the motor.

Throw some turbos on there and you can be 1000+ easy.

I would be worried about throwing turbos on a 454 long block I got for 850 bucks. There won't be any forged parts in it at all.

I am a big fan of the LS swaps too. If I ever change the motor in Horton thats what it will get. Plus there are so many people who have done them its easy to find all the info you need.

ok ill look into prices, avaliibility, wiring horneces, motor mounts, etc. also i wasnt gona leave the 454 stock it was going straight to a shop for new pistons, cams, and heads. if i only pay 850 that means i have more money for up grades. and if i put low compresions pistons i can put twin turbos pushing 20 psi

You can get a lot further for less money with a ls motor. I left big blocks and came over to the fun side.

Price out a loaded set of big block heads and efi..

You can be into a running 6.0 for under 1700 with a fuel system. Just got my second ls harness and used John over at psi conversions ..easy easy easy.

Harness 500.00
Tune 150
Motor complete 750-and up..
Corvette fuel filter reg, AN-6 conversion fittings to hard line, WALBRO pump ect 330
Motor mount plates 45.00

Adapt the exhaust, o2 sensors, stock gauges with sending unti adaptors, trans bolts up, run 12v constant, 12 volt battery, screw down your adl plug, a couple grounds and a tach if you wish.. It is stupid easy.

Double your budget and double the fun..http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1104_594hp_53l_gen_iii_small_block_for_3252/

You will be a lot better off going with an LSx engine.

Your 6.2 diesel would be fine if you would gear it. Your 3.08's (not 3.11's) are what is making it feel so weak.

What makes you think you need crazy horsepower? What are you going to do with this thing? Mud bogging?
