I just got a Cobra 29 LTD. I don't know where to mount it. If I mount it on the front of my console, I might spill beer on it. Where did you mount yours. I think I saw one mounted next to the A/C vent on the center of the dash above the ash tray. What say you? Let's see some pics please. Thanks.

yep seen hole cut on pass side of dash next to a/c defrostcontrols.

or my police center unit flush mounted.

and if you want a slick way to mount it in the dash click here.

call them for a dealer and buy this mount. http://www.troyproducts.com/products/faceplates/cobra.htm

mounts flush and cb slides in and bolts to side. these are beefy mounts. and dont need to be mounted in there unit to work.

If you have an open container in your rig then PLEASE DO NOT wheel anywhere near me. :deal:

With that being said I have my CB mounted to the front of my console and when I have an open SODA that I have spilled it has never gotten onto the CB.

Sweet, I put it there to check it out. Looks like a good spot for it. I don't drink and drive! I was just kidding.

I certainly hope so, I have ZERO tolerance for anyone who drinks and drives.

I can snap a pic of my CB tomorrow if you want and post a pic here for you. BTW, years ago I used to have a Cobra 29 LTD, today i have a Cobra 148 GTL sound tracker unit with the back lighting.

That is a sweet unit! It came with a antena that is magnetic. How/where did you run your wire to the antena? Thanks Scott.

I ran my antenna wire under the carpet and along the inside of the floor to the back tailgate area then drilled a 1" hole through the panel where the tail light is (just below the light and ran the coax out the back and up to my antenna that is mounted on my swing out tire carrier. My antenna is a Wilson 5000 trucker.

Cool, thanks man, that will be the hard part for me, running the wire to the antena. Thanks bud. going to bed now, I will dream about running that wire so its not ugly.

You spill anything on this mount, you're upside down.
Of course, that is entirely possible......

I took a piece of thick gauge sheet steel, marked, drilled and tapped it to match the screw holes in my bracket.
Plus a couple of other holes.
I laid it on my headliner, which is very thick and strong in this truck, and marked and cut all the holes.
Then I cut a slot and slid in the wide piece of steel with a couple of strings tied to the off side.
I slid it in all the way past the slot, and then pulled it back into position.
Put a couple of countersunk screws up through the headliner into the spare tapped holes to hold the plate in position in case the bracket was taken loose.

Mounted the bracket using the tapped holes with countersunk screws.
Put the radio in the bracket up tight against the headliner.

Mike bracket mounted on two screws on the side of the radio.
Antenna wire comes out of the back with a right angle PL259 and goes up though the headliner.

Across the top of my head and down through a space behind my left shoulder. The antenna is mounted on the tool box right behind me, so the wire goes out the back of the cab and straight into the tool box with a slight drip loop.
Never had to take the headliner down.

Power and ground goes up the same way the coax goes down.

Wanted to add:
The speaker is on the bottom as you can see, so it sounds good, and later I redressed the wires on the back.
After I got it all mounted and looking good, the final crapped out, and I had to take it down and replace it with a beefed up final.
I reinstalled it at the hunting camp, and all I had was some 3M wire nuts to rehook the wires.

After hunting season, I solder spliced and heatshrunk the connections.

I have a small radio shack mounted on the console between drivers seat and console. fits good and is out of the way.

Im just now reconnected and mounting mine. I dont have carpet, so Ill have to get creative. My antenna is in the back right corner. I had a guy at work put a SWR meter on it to "tune" it. Something to keep in mind when mounting an antenna, they arent 360 degree, they get the majority of their signal from a North East direction from where they are mounted. I have mine mounted on the drivers side back bumper, I have it in the absolute worst place, you cant get any worse, the whole body of my truck is blocking alot of my signal. Ideally you would want it on the passenger side up front for best signal.

Also, its been forever but on the drivers side behind the side panel (I dont have mine any more) but to the very back of the truck just below the bed rail there is a decent size hole. Big enuff to put a CB antenna wire thru. I dont know if I drilled this hole or if it was already there. Something to look for. It will all the way to the back , up high , on the same panel that the tailgate latches connect to.

mounted mine up today.

tdawg1 thanks man.

runs my light bar on top set of switches and first 2 on lower. the rest 4 on second are for extras on truck.

then got a federal signal pa 300 unit in there like the cop car's sue to run for siren and pa use. its 100 wattts and LOUD :doah:

In front of the center consol, out of the way, does not affect the t-case shifter, and yeas it does occassionally get some soda spilled onit, but nothing major. I learned to just barely crack the cans while driving with something in the cup holders, minimizes spillage. :D

Mine's alittle dirty now, haven't messed with it much as far as cleaning, been too busy lately with other stuff, but here's pics. Wires run under the carpet.

Never heard of the NorthEast signal theory, supposed to be omni-directional, best place to set an antenna is in the middle of the roof, using the whole roof surface as a ground plane, and yes if you mount it on the side of the truck, then of course you are limiting your signal in/output, the truck is blocking some, and only using the side of the truck as it's ground plane.

I had my original on the side, just for height issues, but got tired of not having very good transmit or receive strength, and also ripping it off on the mountain sides and rocks :doah::D

Well hell. I am almost finished with the install. CB on the front of the console, and antena on the rt side mirror. I cut a small hole on top of the chrome mirror cover and got a mount from Radio Shack. I drilled a small hole behind the mirrior, and the wire goes through the door where the speaker wire went. Very clean install on the antena wire and CB so far. I still need an antena though. I wonder if I have to put a ground on the mirror.

No ground wire for the mirror mount needed. the antenna is actually isolated electrically from the truck by the isloator on the mount that you are using.
