If you ever wonderd "How many airsoft pellets does it take.........."

if you add airsoft pellets you have to take the weights off th wheel from the shop trying right??? I'm seriously looking into trying this.

I had them balance my 38s with stick on weights (cause it's the only way) AND add in ~2500 12g pellets. These are Toyo MT and MT Claws. They ran real nice on the freeway before, now they are even better @ 75mph :waytogo: I figure the stick on weights get me perfect to start, then with tire wear and trail damage, the pellets will keep it balanced. :thumb:

EDIT: also, my 2500 pellets came out to about a pound in each tire. The container said 2lb and I split it. I filled bags and weighed them on a mail scale. Dunno if that's wrong, doesn't much matter now as they roll nice and I'm not pulling them apart again. The sound is only noticeable with the windows down and you're listening for it. BUT, it's focking hilarious when people look over with a WTF face. :)

do these beads/bb's strip the paint/powder coat from inside the rim allowing it to start rusting? just about to mount up a used set of 44's

I could see the steel BB's chipping the paint eventually but who knows. The plastic ones don't hurt the wheel for sure but you have to use WAY more (not really a downfall, that's the route I went).

Broken down a couple tires that had run steel bbs for a long time. One had run them 30k, no damage to the rim or the tire. The rim was a powdercoated steel one and although the powder coating was very very dull it was not chipped of or worn through.

What about putting air soft pellets in a blender to turn them into a sand like consistency so as to minimize the sound of them?

Admittedly I havent checked to see how much it is, but I just assumed airsoft pellets would be cheaper.

everyone says it clumps and is harder to recover:dunno: I couldnt tell ya myself. I still dont know what equal is

I never had a problem with clumping, as far as recovery ever try to pick up a couple hundred air soft pellets:D. Or a thousand lol

I've never noticed the sound of the air soft pellets when the engine was running. When I take a tire off the truck and roll it around the garage, then yeah. Maybe if you have a late model truck with stock exhaust you might notice it with the windows down, but even then I don't see why it would bother you.

Interested in this for my new 38" SSR's. 4 Wheel Parts balanced them but they still need some help.
Couldn't you use a shop vac to get them all out if needed to.

Yes, shop vac works great to suck them out of the tire.

As Eric said, picking up thousands of airsofts suck! It's super hard to sweep them. Now I turn the broom over and use the hard side to get them in somewhat of a pile. The use the shop vac. My daughter still finds an airsoft or two every time she is in the garage.

You're resurrecting a thread without any new info or question? This must violate some CK5 rule.

Anyway, Equal sucks because you have to use their super-special super-slow filtered valve stems. And you have to use dry air, which you may have noticed is not always available near your favorite off-road site. If you already use a power tank it might be a decent option. But as long as air-soft pellets are available, why would you ever buy Equal? Out of the available options (plastic, ceramic, sand) Equal is the hardest to recover from old tires. I'm also not convinced Equal can do anything dry sand can't do except suck wallets.

Dyna beads are handy ONLY because you can add them through the valve stem without breaking down the tire. They are of course over-priced.

Seriously.
Bumping old threads is lame.
