If you ever wonderd "How many airsoft pellets does it take.........."

i did a set of 33" baja claws for a buddy of mine with a scout and he brought me airsoft bbs and they wouldnt balance for shat according to the machine, so i took them out and used a set of wheel weights with the edges crimped super tight, only on the inside though... our machine had the capability to do that and im sure more do now than not... the only problem with bbs is if they should rust, and you have steel wheels, you could have a rim failure, but i dont see a set of tires lasting long enough for that to be an issue... now that i know how much airsoft bbs it actually takes, ill use them when its time on my truck...

i remember reading a post about using golf balls and it said it was a bad thing to do

it showed pics of some that were in a tire and they were tore up not round anymore and it said somthing about a tire manufacture being the one that did the test i'm not arguing if they work or not i just thought i read that info on here a couple months ago

That article was done by the company that sells the balancing beads. It was done to convince you to buy there beads instead of using golf balls. It is all a personal issue some guys run golf balls some run air soft some bbs and others still pay to have theirs balanced every so often.

how do you figure out how much to add? also if the tire is already mounted do you have to remount it to get the bb's or pellets in vs ripping a stem out and putting in new stems.

Okay, you guys have pretty much convenced me to go with this form of ballancing when I get my new tires next month. One queston is, how do I determin how many ounces of BBs/ Airsoft pellets do I need per tire? I will be running 33x12.50x15 BFG ATs on stock rally (15x8) style steel wheels.

I think Dyna bead is the name of the company that makes balancing beads and their website had a chart for recommended amounts based on tire size. That is what I used.

i've read a different thread on here and, some1 was talking about 4-5 tennis balls in the larger 44'' tires.

so it really doesn't matter if you put in to many airsoft beads? the guys at the tire store are going to think i'm nuts when i ask them to hold up while i put a tube of airsoft bb's inside my tires and then ask them to ballance them...i'm running 33'' nitto mud grapplers on my dd (mall crawler) do you think you should try and let them try and balance the old fashion way and if it calls for alot of lead, then have them break the bead back down and add the airsofts?

If you do that the balancer will not show that the tire is balanced not sure why but maybe the speed that the balancer spins. Mine run fine on the road but I did not put them on a balancer either.

how many have had success with a smaller tire like a 33"?

i called the tire center here and they have used equal but never on smaller tires. after calling around and not finding a 33" in the area to buy new so I'm just gonna try the bb's to save these other tires.

Yah this is true we changed the weight around a bunch in one 39.5 TSL put 6oz in it at first and the balancer said we needed 14 oz of weight, put in 10 oz, machine said 9 oz of weight, 12 oz, machine said 9, 16 oz,
machine said 9.

I have used a heavy rig and a highlift jack... just put the tire under the truck and jack up the truck... be sure to take the valvestem out of the tire first. the base of the highlift goes on the tire right next to the rim.
gabe
ps just so you know.. the highlift is the most dangerous thing in your rig.

Found .25 gram Airsoft bb's. $15.00 for 5000. Thats 44 oz. Cheap too.
at combatsportsupply. Going to order 2 bags should be plenty do do 5 11.00r16's. Innovative ballancing has a chart for oz/size. $42 for 88 oz. Shipped. :deal:

Ha, I balanced my 35s (boggers) with quarter inch nuts (seriously!) despite making an interesting tinkling sound when you came to a stop, they balanced the tires well enough that I had no vibrations at 75 mph.

I don't know if this is a dumb question but how does it work? Do the airsoft/bbs/balls just absorb the vibrations or what? I know the tire shop threw in a couple bags of balancing beads in two of my tires when I took them into be mounted so this is nothing new to me but I just don't know how it works. Thanks guys!

I split 10,000 .12g pellets between 4 38" bias TSLs. IIRC they were $30. There are no "vibes" but they still don't make the tires round. :doah:

I did the same on a set of 5; 35" MTR's No vibs, & been in there for 2.5 years or so. I broke the bead on one not long ago to fix a nail hole & the inside of the tire looked new.
