If you ever wonderd "How many airsoft pellets does it take.........."

there is a machine to do this

I split 10,000 .12g pellets between 4 38" bias TSLs. IIRC they were $30. There are no "vibes" but they still don't make the tires round. :doah:

i've seen a machine that worked like a big lathe, and they slowly move cutter into the tire as it rotates shaving off the hi spots and making the tire perfectly round, regular ole tire shops ussually not equipped, but if you look around you may find someone who rounds out tires, especially if your near a metro sized city

I actually did look into that. I think it was Greg72 that pointed me in that direction. The only place I could find was up near Cincinnati (about 2.5 hrs away). I am thinking I should just get a big steel plate, install some eye bolts, drive on, tie the axles down, put it in 4-low, get in the throttle, and burn off the high spots. :D

bowling green..huh, thats home of the vette isn't it...iirc thats where i stopped at the vett museum on my way to work in seymour indiana....its not to far from louisville is it, which is a big place? please excuse if way off, its been 15+yrs since i've been up past the mason dixion line...memory not that sharp about those trips..i tried to sleep most of the way. isn't there a bridge you cross in louisville and they have this fireboat on the river, spraying water every which away like a huge fountain...i remember that

Yup, BG is home of the 'vette. We are about 1.5 hours south of Louisville, 1 hour north of Nashville. There is a bridge in Louisville over the Ohio river going into Indiana, but I've never seen a fireboat. :dunno:

Just pulled apart by beadlock wheels I used the airsoft pellets in. This is after about 2yrs and probably 5,000mi.

Side by side used & new

You can see there is some wear. In the pic below the worn pellet will fit through the hole but the new one won't.

Reviving an old thread. My tires are a bit out of round, old and the rims are a bit beat up. They have a lot of lead to balance 10oz+ so I finally got around to trying the Airsoft high density pellets on the worst offender.

Having previous positive results with Centramatic http://www.centramatic.com/ I'm looking forward to seeing how the pellets work out for a fraction of the price.

They will work better. I have used both also. The pellets work better because they are at the tread & not the edge of the rim.

Shakes a bit at 55-65MPH. I'll check the rim for out of round, etc.

SUPER DREDGE!!!!!!! Actually I've seen worse :)

It's been about a year since the last post. How is everyone doing???
Not sure what route a friend of mine took on his 39's. Dunno what they are but they are for sand. Anyway, he said they put bags in the tires to balance them. Just took a trip down to San Felipe and the truck rides really nice, all the time, but we did mostly 60+. That's when I first heard about this. Then I read a few threads here. Sounds really cool.

Has anyone recently changed their minds? Running metal over plastic, or going back to weights? Need feedback from the elders.

Bags of what?

I'm currious what they sound like. I know how noisy it is to shake a bottle of airsoft pellets.

It sounds like a morocco when you come to a stop and the pellets bounce off your rims.:D It's not bad though considering the sound most of our trucks make while moving.

I've been running them a few years now and have had zero problems with them, balancing or wearing anything out inside the tire. Granted I haven't put many miles on my truck.

Picked up two cans of 5,000 .25 gram pellets last night, realized I only needed one. 1250 of the .25 gram pellets (1/4 of the can) comes out just over 11oz so unless you're doing your spare as well one can will work depending on tire size and condition of course. Just make sure you check the weight of pellets your purchasing as well, Wal-Mart also had .12 and .20 grams sitting on the shelf.

.25 grams = 0.008818oz
.20 grams = 0.007054oz
.12 grams = 0.004232oz

I have airsoft pellets - 2500 0.12g pellets per tire. I can hear them in there when I remove the wheels/tires from the truck and roll them around, but not at all when the engine is running. I don't have many miles on mine yet either though.

trxus sts 38 x 15.5x15 is what he's running and yes, he used Equal. It rides so nice, even at 80-90+. Whats the down side to this method? I think I read clumping or something? Filtered stems and price I guess too.

I'm only going to run a 35-36" tire, maybe a Toyo M/T or BFG KM2 M/T. Some equal or 10 onces of bb's

Same here, the only time I hear them is when I have the tires off and I'm rolling them around the shop.

I've been running the airsoft pellets 3yrs now in 2 different sets of tires. They work good enough for me.

grave digging again

You're resurrecting a thread without any new info or question? This must violate some CK5 rule.

Anyway, Equal sucks because you have to use their super-special super-slow filtered valve stems. And you have to use dry air, which you may have noticed is not always available near your favorite off-road site. If you already use a power tank it might be a decent option. But as long as air-soft pellets are available, why would you ever buy Equal? Out of the available options (plastic, ceramic, sand) Equal is the hardest to recover from old tires. I'm also not convinced Equal can do anything dry sand can't do except suck wallets.

Dyna beads are handy ONLY because you can add them through the valve stem without breaking down the tire. They are of course over-priced.
