IH scout 800

Procomp scoop for the hood fix. J/K.

This is a true old school build. I have used shelves for sheet metal for decades. Can be bought cheap are usually a decent gauge.

This is a true old school build. I have used shelves for sheet metal for decades. Can be bought cheap are usually a decent gauge.

The metal I have came from a 600 amp breaker panel. They changed out 4 of them where I work because the safety labels had been painted over. The contractor that was doing the work tossed them all in our metal dumpster. They had heavy gauge angle frames with large bolt on 16ga panels. I asked my boss if I could have them (government site, even taking their trash is stealing) and he looked at me like I was crazy but it has been very useful.

Already replaced an entire truck floor with some of it and built this this past weekend

I want to add more compartments on the center shelf for bolts and other odds and ends and then Im going to use some of the sheet metal to put a top on it for a work table. It all bolted together from those breaker panel frames.

Been out of town trout fishing for a couple days so not much progress but I did get it running with the propane:woot:

Threw in some new tail lights because the old ones were shot and someone painted over them. Found some new 4" round trailer lights and a wholesale store for $3 each, fit the factory hole perfectly. Also tied up some loose ends and got the propane hooked up which has left me with a problem.

Once I got it all hooked up it fired up and ran perfect. Ran for a few minutes and then I shut it off to hook up a few last things before I ran it too long and it wouldn't start back. I can start it on gasoline and then it will run good on propane but it will not start on propane. Ive started it several times and ran it around the yard and a couple miles down the road and it runs good with no flaws but every time I shut it off I have to start it back on gasoline.

I know very little about propane so any help from propane gurus would be awesome.

Looks like an electric shut off. Make sure it clicks. Propane valve shut off at the tank? Should be pretty simple stupid. Try pushing the primer button on the model E. It is in the center.

I love LPG. Cheap. Runs darn good pretty easy to fix. Altitude sensitive. Mu k30 getting a second 425 this winter. Wish I had my k10 on it.

Electric shutoff is working and propane is turned on:waytogo:

Im getting fuel all the way to the vaporizer with the key on, like I said it will run on the propane and runs good, just wont start without dumping some gasoline in it.

I read some stuff on pirate last night that has led me to believe I have a vacuum problem. Going to check a few things out today.

There is a ground and power wire on the side of the vaporizer as well as a vacuum port. The vacuum port was plugged and I read that the wires did not need to be hooked up. Think any of this would have anything to do with it?

Also if I push the purge button on top of the vaporizer should I get propane vapor out of the vent? Nothing happens when I push it. Im getting liquid all the way to the vaporizer.

You don't need to hook up the wires or the vac port. Check vac for sure. The purge should give out a shot of fuel down the large hose to the carb.

You know you can get an adapter to go straight to that Holley 2300 pattern that your intake is with the same impco 425 right? You CANNOT cut anything off the top of that carb.

Yeah I knew I could get the adapter but the q-jet adapter plate was the easiest to get (oreillys had it in stock) and I may end up swapping in a chevy engine so I didn't want to change it just yet. Want to wait and see how the IH engine is going to work out before I mess with anything. If the factory engine keeps running (has 40+ lbs of oil pressure but smokes) I will put the mixer on the 2300 base plate I have.

wasn't planning on cutting off the part of the mixer, I was talking about the hood supports that hang down, that's the only part that is hitting. and my air cleaner is about an 1" tall than the top of the mixer so I can go a little shorter there.

Sometimes it does but most of the time it doesn't do anything.

Oh hell. Cut all that you want. Did you try pushing the primer then trying to start it yet?

Pull the top and see if the seat and diaphragm are OK.

Had to replace alternator because the one on it wasn't charging but Ive been driving it around and using it as a tractor  in my yard for the last hour or so and it seems to be doing better.

Im thinking maybe the diaphragm was sticking or something but it has started good the last 3 times without me having to dump gas in it. I may go ahead and order a rebuild kit for the vaporizer to keep on hand.

Thanks for your help 80' 427, I figured you would have some good advice with your propane experience.

Also looking at it I may go ahead and see if I can find a cheap adapter for my 2300 base plate before I go hacking away at the hood. Looks like it will clear if I don't have this stupid spacer and get a shorter air cleaner.

and when did ck5 get a spell checker? Its been correcting lots of my goofy spelling:D:bow:

any good ideas on a quick easy but safe way to mount a couple forklift tanks?

I have an opportunity to take the scout wheeling and watch some rock bouncers this weekend. Cant do anything serious, no cage and open top but there are some mild trails at the park.

problem is I have no tank mounts yet and no way of getting them by this weekend. I have an idea that involves heavy duty ratchet straps but I DO NOT want to be unsafe. I imagine that if mounted properly and good straps it wouldn't be unsafe but I want more opinions before I try it.

Im not going if I cant wheel but Im not wheeling if I might kill myself from unsafe practices.:waytogo:

4x4 cut to match the tank. Tie downs at the end of the blocks for the ratchet straps. 2 on each tank.

Good idea. But I just drove it around a little and it looks like there is no way it will be ready for any kind of wheeling this weekend. Still have to do up seat mounts with belts, get temp gauge hooked up, change oil/filter (dreading this real bad. canister oil filter and two drain plugs), mount tanks, finish tranny crossmember, rear shocks and a few little odds and ends.

Plus oil pressure continues to drop. was real good when I first started it but now its sitting on less than 5 psi when hot and low idle. Hoping that a oil/filter change will help it some as I have no idea when the last one was, been sitting for almost 20 years:whistle: but it doesn't knock or rattle. I guess Im gonna go ahead and start on a gm engine and possibly tranny for it. Cant decide if I want standard or auto if I swap.

I also have to work on a lady's car that I work with tomorrow night so I doubt Ill find time to finish everything.
