Well I'm back from the Croisiere Blanche! Wheelin' in the French Alps with a few hundred other crazy people. It was an experience I'll never forget!
2000 miles of road trip and high altitude, snow wheelin. We did the first 2 days of 4 but to be honest, my rig was tooo wide for these mountain tracks. When your passenger door is up against the mountain and your driver side wheels are a foot from the edge of the track where there is a several hundred foot drop, you've gotta question your safety! most of the other trucks were Land Rovers etc which being a foot narrower than me, gave them a bit of a safety margin.
At one point, crawling along a track like this, a mile or so up a mountain, in deep snow, I hit a hidden rock with the up-side front wheel which knocked me sideways enough to put my offside front tire right on the edge. At this point I had to make a decision. another 2 days like this or consider the safety of my wife and truck. Well, safety won.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitching, I had a fantastic trip. We did a couple of days on our own after that up in the mountains on safer tracks and roads.
The truck was awesome. It went up and down rocky, snow covered tracks so steep you'd have trouble on foot, all without barely spinning a wheel. The OBA was great as was the Staun airdown valves(and beadlockers!!) The EBL ecu system worked out great too.
We've only just got back so I've not had time to sort out many pictures, they're still all on the camera but here's a few anyway. I'll post some more when I can.
We want to do it again for sure but in something smaller.......Chevy powered Land Rover comes to mind!!

Wider is better 'til you run outta room!:D
I can't believe how good that truck performed, I knew they were so capable!

that bridge does not look like something you should be driving trucks over. cool pics. keep em coming.

That looks awesome. The mountains in the background are beautiful. Once you get settled, post some more shots.
REALLY beautiful, we just have nothing like that in England. I really didn't want to come home!

OK glade you made it back OK. Couple questions one is that a chromed CUCV bumper on the front (looks like mounts for D rings).

This bridge? lol. Yeah, a rickerty old suspension bridge that sways about, is covered in ice and snow on wooden boards!:D

the bumper is a stock '91 unit (now rather bent on passenger side if you look closely:rolleyes: ), that I cut 2 squares out of and made up some brackets (that you see sticking out) which are bolted by 3 7/16" bolts each to the chassis. A shackle goes on the end obviously!

This is part of a 10 mile switch back road that we had to do twice a day just to get in and out of the ski resort we stayed in. each days wheelin' started from a different village in the area. Thet layed on lunch at different restaurants each day up in the mountains which was on the days roadbook.
I'm sure glad I haven't got to put chains on again tomorrow morning!
Looking up to our resort.

Hey I had a brain storm! Write an article about the event Telling all about the origins of the thing and how you got over to it. What you did day one, day two. How you had dangers and obstacles what happened to others. Then give a over view of what you did and saw when you went off on your own.

Send it to a four wheel magazine and of course share it with us.

Thank goodness for these guys!
And no.....there is nothing over that edge!!!!!!

Most of these pics are from other guys on the trip as, like I said, I haven't got around to downloading them from the camera yet.....but I did get a beer open!:D

looks like alot of fun. I hear ya on the whole being bigger thing. Almost all my freinds I wheel with either have buggys or jeeps or toyotas. All substantially smaller than my rig.

OK, well, let me get back to reality and get my head straight and we'll see. I've only been back on English time a couple of hours!
It was a hell of an experience that'll stay with me for ever. Not just the wheelin, but the whole deal and the comerardery (sp?) of 300+ people with a common interest doing what we love. We made some friends and got some memories that last forever!
And the quad and motorcycle riders........crazy man. Minus 10 to 20 C.....just plain crazy!:D
Oh yeah, and there's the 'extreme group' who camp out for the whole week, wheelin all day and camping on the mountain at night...badass!!!

I did the Sturgis South Dakota motorcycle thing a couple of times and you are right. There is no other experience in the world like being with a HUGE group of like minded and doing what you love. *(looks for old lady over shoulder) Not even having my first kid or getting married compares.

The campers and the party's are WILD :haha:
