It was nice, but not $5500 nice...
We went and checked out the Blazer this evening. It has spectacular curb appeal and is very solid underneath. It did have some rust starting under the rockers and some small bubbling of the paint but underneath was very solid and complete. The seller never claimed it to not have rust (as I had thought earlier) so that was not an issue. Here are some of the stuff I noticed.
- Paint job was in great shape for the most part.
- The interior was a bit played out and worn. Carpet was stained
- The seats were redone in a mid-'80s-looking velour that to me looked like crap
- The taligate was very solid but had to be yanked on by two people in order to get it down. But the hinges and mounts were in great shape
- The glass in the cap and the tailgate was tinted...looked amateur
- The glass in the tailgate was slipping as it rolled up and down.
- When the driver's door shut, it sounded like the window glass inside was not secured and rattled.
- The clear plastic lense over the gauges in the dash was scratched and worn, making them somewhat hard to read.
- The engine compartment was clean and stock-looking. Even the heat stove was hooked up to the air cleaner (looked to have been replaced).
- All of the body mounts, etc. were in great shape with only the normal surface rust
- Truck ran and drove great, no noises, no pulling, shifted good at all the right points
- It had A/C but it was disconnected and compressor was missing (no matter, who needs A/C anyway here in Ohio?)
- Tires were about 75% tread left and all matching (31x10.50R15s)
- Rally wheels were not rusted at all and looked almost new
- 89,000 miles (owner claims actual) on the 350 V8, TH350 tranny
All in all it was a really solid truck with a few cosmetic issues and minor rust starting. We took the truck back to the owner and said we liked it and would let him know. I told my cousin if I were wanting to buy it I would offer the guy $3500 but would not give more than $4000 for it. He has to speak to his Dad (my Uncle) and they will make the final decision. So I guess we'll see. Here are a couple pictures I took. I really hope he gets it but I don't want him to pay too much for it. You can see the excitement on his face as he drove it...
