Improving Low End Torque and Overall Power to my '79 Blazer?

Your stock exhaust is not headers, it's manifolds...

Just save and do it all at once...

stock trucks do not come with headers, they come with exhaust manifolds..

those headers will work but will sound tinny and have minimal performance gains being a shorty style....

you get what you pay for, and your looking to spend, what? $80....

Does this truck need to pass emissions?

I am willing to spend 150 on headers, a little more if I need to. And yes I need to pass emissons. I want the most power for the dollar.

Would I be okay doing the exhaust now and headers later, or should I wait and do it all at once?

EDIT - Thanks Ryoken for all your help so far!!! I am new to trucks and such.

Get ya a decent set of headers, don't worry about the emissions right now, they aren't looking at the exhaust manifolds.headers anymore here, they do still look for cats though.

I ust tried to run my '81 through emissions a few months ago, has true dual, headers and cats, not factory by a long shot, but they still ran it and passed everything except the sniffer,,,,runnin way too rich.

They check your gas caps, cats present and make sure your fuel tank holds pressure. The run it.

Lol, So can you guys reccomend some good headers then?

I am seeing alot on eBay for like 75 bucks, are those really that bad?

And do I need shorts, huggers, or full size, or does it not matter?

I have hooker full lenth and 2.25 with flowmasters. If I were you I would run Hooker full length, y pipe to a single 3" cat and single 3 flowmaster. Plenty o flow.

That is what I was planning on, I was decided on everything but the headers, I will probably just do full length. I am doing a y pipe to 3" to the cat then 3" to the muffler then 3" tail.

I am looking at headers. . is 5/16th inch too thin for the flange? Should I spend a little moe and get 3/8+?
