Interesting Gas Price Stats

Keeping the inflation factor in mind and using this (http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm)

this would be a representation of what gas would've cost using todays $$ value.

1975 = $2.44
1980 = $3.39
1985 = $2.62
1990 = $2.08
1995 = $1.69
1999 = $1.69

what is the average take home pay these days for a week? :dunno:
 
Hard to say..I haven't worked a real job since 1994 and was getting 8 bucks an hour,which is the current minimum wage!..I used to take home just over 300 bucks a week working 53 hours at the last place I worked at after taxes..
Here they are pushing to pass the minimum wage up to 10.50 an hour...even that wont be enough to pay for rent and gas,health insurance,food,etc...its no wonder so many are finding your better off not working ,you get free food,health insurance,even some cash to pay basic utility bills..

I think one reason they want to jack up the minimum wage here is so the folks working those jobs will no longer be eligible for food stamps and subsidized health care,welfare,etc..it'll put them JUST over the eligibility limits..in the end they'll be worse off than making 8 bucks and getting assistance..A lot of places here aren't willing to pay 10.50 an hour too!..they'll probably fire people instead of giving them a "raise"..
 
I'm not really asking exactly what people bring home a week, it's just that the government website says the median income is $951 a week and I don't believe that...

I was wondering if someone would do this. It kinda puts things in perspective. The actual cost of gas hasn't changed that much once you figure inflation into the mix. With that said, an average of $2-3 for a gallon of gas would be reasonable for this economy. Over $3 is just too much in my opinion.

If that number is before taxes it makes sense. After taxes (fed and state), insurance, 401k, you may as well cut that in half. Realistically speaking.
 
always remember a story dad told me,in 1967 he bought his first house for 13000,was raising 3 kids,mom stayed home,and making a car payment on a brand new pontiac lemans,,,,,,,and he was doing this on a take home pay of 86 bucks a week,and he said he was doing pretty good

He also didn't have an internet service bill, had one phone bill opposed to multiple cell phone bills, no cable bill, health insurance was prolly dirt cheap if he even had it, prolly putting nothing away for retirement, no gym membership, Netflix, didn't have a huge keeping-up-with-the-jones' bill (boat, atv's, weekend home, $10,000 worth of guns, a hot rod or wheeling rig (OR BOTH) and a $65,000 truck to tow it with, 35 flat screens, 7 home equity loan's.) People complain money doesn't go as far as it used to, but people also have way, way, way more stuff that they used to. People have lost the ability to be content with what they have. All they know now is they are a sh!tty person if they don't have more stuff than the guy down the block...

we also have no time...the old man probably worked 8 hours and went home.....now your lucky if you work less than 60 and they only pay you for 40...they have youe cell phone so they call you anytime...can't get away

cheap consumerism, stuff, stuff, stuff.. and people wonder why Wallyworld rules and china makes everything.. well, besides gov over-reg and red tape driving it there... :whistle:

my nephew is an ex-con who get's a gov cell phone and a $1,000 a month in food stamps... I could easily eat for 6 months on that.. :dunno: sorry, different bourbon diatribes.. :whistle: :haha:
 
I heard on the news last night the Lundberg gas price index predicts "gasoline will remain at an average of 3.54 a gallon nationwide until "september" provided no interuption in supply or other factors occour (like a refinery going off line,etc)....they said this will be the "lowest priced gasoline in the past few years"...

We'll see...:rolleyes:..I bet diesel wont go down any--I see its back up to over 4 bucks a gallon here,after a slight drop to about 3.90 a gallon for a couple weeks--was 4.25 or higher back in february..
