Ethanol is good for the economy..

Just think--every old car that burns to the ground because its old rubber fuel lines weren't compatible with it forces the owner to buy another vehicle, and all the boats that had fiberglass tanks give grief keep the marina's going..also the small engines that seem to be the worst affected by it need frequent carb rebuilds or replaced entirely from running too lean..

eh, fiberglass gas tanks in boats are rarer than hens teeth, at least in any major production boat... I haven't seen one in prolly 25 yr's... dizzle is a bit more common, but even than, it's pretty rare...

now eating up rubber o-rings, phase separation, etc is another story..... ;)

People can make jokes about ethanol all they want to...if you are one of them, you likely weren't around in the 1970's when the first wave of ethanol caused a huge mess

do we have a chart for wages. i think they have gone down. all in all its not working. if you want a ression proff economy, then are GREEDY politicians should have the same benefits we do. same crappy health care, pay for there own gas etc... im going in for back sugery and could lose every thing. the middle class is srinking fast and thats where our goverment gets it taxes from. ill support any revolution, lets get these old worthless f...ers out of office. f... ethanol corn is for eating not driving. as the word keeps groing you will need more food. compressed natural gas. my propane bill went from 169.00 a month to 562.00. i have to go smoke pot now so i dont get more pissed off. what say you

That's fine and dandy. Love it as we may, most technology was **** in the 1970's. Ethanol is good for the American economy. It's weird that everyone on here wants to pretend they are super pro-America, but have no live for the agricultural industry. All of our farm equipment is built right here in America. As are our buildings, grain bins, etc.

I grew up in Illinois on a farm, most farmers are not a fan of ethanol if they raise livestock. It is driving up corn prices to the point that they can not afford to feed it to livestock in some cases. It is definitely hurting those farmers bottom lines in general.

I don't even want to talk gas prices these days, hell the price of regular just hit $4.23 a gallon here yesterday.

That's not at all true. There are more cattle in the state of Nebraska than any other state. Corn price is down right now, and beef prices are at an all time high. Guess what they do with ethanol? They sell the by product to the cattle feeders who feed it to thir cattle. The cattle feeders LOVE ethanol.

everybody has their own demon....mine is ethanol...I hate it just because you cant grill it or put butter on it

eh, to be honest... I could care less about ethanol.. it actually gives me a bit of job security at this point... albeit, new difficulties and mechanical challenges...

and if tech changes are made in the materials/components to deal with it, even better. performance-wise it can be dealt with... swelling parts, etc, needs to be figured out tho...

and if it makes fossil-fuel hatin-tree-huggers/use more content over the immediate future, even better...

I'm certainly not gonna be some "hardheaded, carbs rule, everything from the 70's was better" type...

well my Blazer is from the 70's...and it has a carb....and it rules :haha: Drove all day today...took a whole tank of gas (non-ethanol) and I talked to people as much as I drove...

I will post some pics I am downloading later...but there were two old enough to be retired State Troopers that were doing traffic duty in this small town near me...they both were just dumbfounded...:I haven't seen one of those in..in..years...the other trooper said "yep, a long, long time"....

well... don't forget what I DD... a giant orange square body with a duck on the hood and BUILT, NOT BOUGHT! on the windshield... :woot:

EVERYONE knows my rig... :deal: :pimp: it's not 70's, but it may as well be..

built plenty of nasty carbed 70's hotrods in the day, but EFI kicks it's arse in all performance aspects... ethanol or not...other than the "Cletus can tighten 4 bolt's and a fuel line" aspect of it, I'll take EFI... ;)

I drove my 1975 K5 Blazer today as well. With a carbureted big block. With a tank full of ethanol. Ran fine. For being carbureted.....

Martin

mine's carbureted only for the sake of being original...one day I might put EFI on it after a few years

Things must have swung the other direction then. Been a few years since I sat around the local coffee shop listening to the discussions. I knew a few farmers who got out of livestock and went 100% corn because the prices were up at the time.

My '66 New Yorker has been sitting for two years with a tank full of ethonalated fuel. Splash of gas down the carb today, it spun over one and a half revolutions and fired right up. Ran a little sh!tty for a few minutes, but then it smoothed out, took it around the block, runs decent.
