It's all about composite... :bow: :haha:

That'll be by far the easiest mod I get to. Just need to get over to Trenton for a 4 x 8 of some 1/4"... Thats the perfect mod for that material... integrate some speaker work too...

Wonder if I could find a sheet that big around here... :thinking:
 
2 factors....

1 - where is your nearest distributor. you may get lucky... any one stocks, or can get it easily.. http://www.creativepultrusions.com/distlistus.html they are in Canada too..

2 - cost.. it's not cheap... 1/4" sheet runs me like $175, 200.. Haven't priced it lately.. maybe a tad more for the average joe.. Thats ALOT of scraps leftover for other smaller projects too..

The real kicker is, that, and lower door panels would be soooooo simple.. So, good for a newbie to the material.. Some jigsawing, sanding, paint, herc, whatever... inpervious to elements, awesome speaker material, etc, etc...

I'd go diamond plate before I'd hand lay a glass one tho...

Oh, I wouldn't hand lay that either... I'd get a sheet, cut it, and the epoxy on some stuff in the back to create a box for the speakers. I wouldn't get too fancy on it. The front would get painted and/or bedliner'd for protection.
 
My only concern with the speakers, at least with subs, would be the depth behind the panels. Not sure there is enough room to have the speaker flush mounted. Again, I haven't been behind mine yet, so I am just guessing. My plan is to move the spare to the rear bumper, then build two custom boxes, with 10's mounted up high. Below the boxes for the speakers will be two locking drawers for storing my wrenches and other tools. All the amps and an inverter will be mounted behind the panels for security (think out of sight, out of mind).

I don't think it would be bad to have a separate interiors forum, just not sure it is required.

well, knowing me, I'll go overboard... Not sure if I'd do any sub enclosure stuff, maybe just run some marine 6 x 9's out back... Tho I may consider a sub, as that may be the logical placement.. maybe a couple 10's in the back or something...

I definitely will utilize the space. In front of the wheel wells, it'll defintely get some sort of compartments, or amp mounting..

any of that becomes simple with that angle composite in the corner technique I developed and some scraps... maybe a couple of those fancy 1/4 turn latches I wanna get for my e-box and glovebox/breaker panel...

Hey, I remember where the idea of using those latches for the side panels came from:D

I figured 2 10's in the back, just because I like to have bass. Acoustics wise, these things weren't built for audiphiles, but I think a couple of subs can provide plenty of bass, even with the top off.
 
I want to put a good set of 6x9s in the front of the rear panels angled with my little 200 watt amp and I plan on having the locking storage on each side behind the seat to hide stuff in. I am not sure if I am going to stick a sub in there yet. I really only listen to rock and I try to stay as low key as possible with my noise.
 
This is what I did. I cut new side pannels out of galvanized sheet metal. I put to layers of bedliner on it to give it texture. I then put 3 coats of glossy black paint over the bedliner to smooth out the surface(bedliner was way to rough) and also to give it some shine. I got some black striping to go over the edges to give it a cleaner look. There wasnt enough room to mount subs flush in the back. So I just went with a good set of Pioner 4way speakers 300w. They sound really clear and have good bass. Im only running 150w to them so I'm not even getting close to the most out of them, but with just that little wattage they are loud. During the summer when my friends and I play football I only turn them up to 3/5 of the way and we can hear them just fine with it about 200yards away.
The key to bass in a speaker thats not a sub is that you want the biggest magnet possible. The bigger the magnet the more bass you have. Same with the bigger the speaker the more sound it pushes around. It also does you no good to run a 800w speaker with a 200w amp. When you try and crank up the volume it will sound like S### because its not getting enough wattage. Right now thats my problem is that my speakers arent getting enough wattage when turned all the way up the will crackle some times. Need to find a 1000w 4way amp. You want to have your speakers and amps alomst the same but with the amp a little smaller so you dont blow the speaker.

I like your side panels John. I've been puting off mine, I want to use 1/4" hard board covered with Grey cloth.

I had a mini-disc player connected straight to an amp, going to a big ghetto-ass box in the back seat with 2x12's in it... I got the box at Pep Boys, so you know it rocked... :haha:
 
col....u want me to see what it would cost to truck ya a full 4x8 sheet of diamond plate...how thick you want it...metal, like everything else is cheap(er) around here
 
I just made my lower door panels using the original back board. I also used some thin hard board, and covered it with some gray fabric I bought. Stayiong with gray.. I also am about %70 done with center consol.
 
BTW, since there's no interior forum I posted my progress here. So, technically its not thread jacking. :D
