Introductions & Greetings

Well I am a new guy...

I live in Sandy, OR and have been wheelin' the last 4 years. My first truck was an International, but then I got wise and bought a Chevy (kinda).

My truck is or was a 1972 3/4 ton GMC. I removed the bed, have 35 spline 60's front and rear, 44" boggers rear, TSL's front, 5.89 gears, winch and thats about it.

New To The Forum Own A 1986 Gmc Jimmy

Well This Is My First Visit To This Site. I Just Bought A 86 Jimmy Full Size Lifted 7" With 35x14x15 Super Swampers On It. She Is Not It Bad Shape But I Want To Re Build The Truck From The Ground Up. It's Still Got The Stock 10 Bolt Rears In It. This Is My First Concern. It's Got A Chevy 350 With About 400 Horse With A Th350 Behind It With A Nice Shift Kit. What Can These Rears Take? What Can I Replace Them With That Would Be A Good Bolt On? Im Sure You Guys Will Be Of Much Help Through Out This Build. Thanks Guys

Chris

Hello. I know that the stock 10 bolt axles are pretty weak. If you want a serious axle, most "crawlers" use the 1 ton Dana 60's and 70's. If you are looking for something that isn't as strong, but a lot stronger than the 10's, not to mention a LOT less expensive, the early to mid 70's 12 bolt axles will do just fine. You can use your current 6 bolt wheels and tires, which will instantly save $800 to $1500 in itself. The 12's can be re-inforced by welding gussets from your axle tubes to the gear housing to reduce flexing in extreme situations. I have seen, first hand, a 1973 1/2 ton Chevy pick up with 40" tires out wheel a 1 ton Chevy pick up with 44" tires. The 1/2 ton had gusseted axles, and towed the 1 ton back to town, because the axle tubes broke.

I am planning on installing Dana 44/14 bolt axles on my Blazer, simply because I can pick up a set for $300. Parts for the 3/4 tons are also more expensive than 12's. I have built pick ups in the past, and have had starter Blazer projects in the past, but was never able to finish them. I am very excited about this project. Time and money are my only roadblocks. I wish you the best of luck with your "girl" and hope you will keep us posted with the progress.

Hey All,

Just trying to get started on a project 1977 Jimmy that I bought.
Body is OK, floor is no good. Has a GM targetmaster 350 in it for now.
I have lots of work to do, but I'm not sure where to start. This jimmy
needs front cab floors on both sides, a tail pan, and some other rusty
things that need replaced. There is just so much work to do it is
hard to know where to start.

Living out here in the high desert sure does keep floors and mounts rust free. You should see my half cab blazer that is going to be awsome !!!! Very rare, and awsome.

86 K5 Blazer

Hi there just found this sight I am in the process of restoring my 86 fullsize Blazer coming along good can not wait to get it done.

Newbie to site, whats up all. I am into thrashing the hell out of my K5 and building it to where it can hold up to it. Currently it is my winter project now after a long summer of thrashing. But right now it is getting there.

Hi from UT

I just joined this forum after purchasing an 85 Burban. I bought it as a tow rig but I think my mind is being changed (quickly). The rig is stock with the exception of some aluminum aftermarket wheels and some off brand 32's.

See ya around.
Jim
