12 bolt rear end

Hi everyone I'm new to the site I have ? A BOUT MY 1991 CHEVY V10 BLAZER I WAS GOING TO CHANGE THE pinion seal on the rear end and notice that it was a 12 bolt did a 91 come factor with the 12 bolt ?

Hey guys. I currently own an '03 ZR2 Blazer, and joined because I'm looking to go bigger. Everyone I wheel with is on at least 35's and I decided to move up to a K5. I'll be selling off the ZR2. It's been fun, but I think it's time to go bigger.

Welcome to the club! What specs will you be looking for in a K5?

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm still doing my research, but I know I want the following:
2nd Gen
4x4
350
700-R4
Zero Rust
Stock as possible
Preferably black or dark grey

Any desirable options or years in particular I should be looking for?

*edit
I should also mention that I have a DD and a Yukon Denali that I tow with. The K5 will live on the trails and maybe an occasional drive to work.

I would go for a 89-91.
These have the best upgrade for the tbi and the better np241 tcase.
Also I like the front end the best.

I keep reading that. I have yet to see one come up in my area. Lots from the early 80s though.

IMO, shop towards Alabama if you're looking locally. Florida trucks always seem to have more rust than over here.

And I also vote for a 89-91 truck.

Thanks for the tip. The one that I've found that I really like is in Picayune. It's an '82, but looks pretty clean for its age.

So, other than the TBI, transfer case, and being newer, what other specs make the 89-91 better? I'm finding random information all over the place.

Serpentine belt setup.

The 1987+ TH700R4 is better than the 1982-1986 version.

If you are lucky enough to find an SM465 rig, the 1985+ versions have a superior hydraulic clutch setup.

Thanks Martin. I'll be keeping an eye out.

I've got a lot of work to do on my ZR2 before I'd feel good about selling it. It's a wheeling toy, and it shows.

Hello everyone! My name is Harold and I am from Addison, Maine. I have a K Series addiction...just like the rest of you.

I currently have an '87 V20 Chevy 4x4 Suburban, an '89 V30 4x4 dump, and a '91 k5 Blazer. The '87 is in great shape with 6in lift and 37' Toyos on KMD Diesel rims. I did a 700r4/208 swap from the original th400 a while back.

Now, my plan is to swap the sm465/205 combo out of the '89 into my '87 Burb. I also have a single wheel Dana 60/Corp 14 bolt FF that I plan to swap in as well. The guy that had the 'Burb before me did a number on the wiring harness. I plan to rob the wiring harness and the front clip off the '91 K5.

I was wondering if anyone has attempted the wiring harness swap? As in swapping the entire dash harness out of the '91 into the '87. That way I get a good harness in the cab and I don't have to hack up the harness under the hood when i do the front clip swap. The things I am unsure of are the power for the rear doors and any VSS issues with swapping the gauge clusters. I plan to use the gauge cluster out of the R30 as it will match the swap to manual trans. I feel like I have gathered all the parts I may need.

Does anyone have any suggestions or input? I really appreciate all the helpful info here! Thanks!

If those trucks are 4x4, they are V not R.

It would be much much much easier to just repin the headlight harness than to rewire the whole dash as well.

New K5 Owner, New to the Forums. 86 K5

Hello all,

I wanted to stop in and say hello to the community. I am a recent addition to the K5 family, I bought my first one this week. It is my first purchase of a vehicle that would be considered classic by any description, so I apologize upfront if what I am posting or asking is a repeat topic. If so guidance to the threads that might shed light on my situation would be appreciated.

I have long been thinking of making the move to the pre-computer immersed vehicles we now know today. Having made the leap I know that I am in for numerous "lessons" and just as many new "experiences" in the future. I have only been surfing these forums for a few days and I can tell, it is gonna be quite a ride!

Anyhow, on to my rig and my questions.

1986 Chevrolet K5 Blazer - Silverado
One family ownership - Father/Son
Numbers matching, unrestored. Original.
Daily Driver - Garaged for the last 10 years.
150k miles.

5.0L V8 305 Auto
Manual lock 4x4
Apple Red/ Frost White Two tone.
AC
Cruise Control

I will include pictures as I figure out how to post them, and update this list as I learn more.

What I am interested in knowing, is that by my account of what I have purchased, this vehicle is very close to original. I have thought of updating the wheels, tires and suspension. Many people I have talked to since buying the rig have said that leaving it all original, has value. I jumped on this vehicle, because I could see the care that had been given this vehicle for years, and I did not want to get into something that was going to involve heavy restoration. I have been around long enough to know that in the end, doing what your gut tells you is a pretty solid course of action. I guess I just wanted to hear from the community any opinions of changing an all original vehicle from that state. Thanks.
