Newbie here. (please dont hate on the username! lol)

I know Big94Gmc (not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing) from a local FL board. Ive recently moved up to Virginia Beach, VA and after having regrets for selling my fullsize bronco Im looking to get back in the Fullsize world.

Guy at work is selling an 86 4x4 subruban (CHEAP!) with a recently rebuilt engine. I havent see it yet but other then the rear window not working (no barndoors) its up but doesnt come down and a 'crappy' interior from what Ive been told. Doesnt sound like that bad of a rig to jump in and jack up (8" and 35"s are the goal!) Just has to be 'road' friendly as it will have to make the drive back to fl and haul a trailer back up here to va at least once.

Anyways.... if the deal goes though I will be more than happy to become a 'full' member as it SUCKS!!!!!! not being able to see all 'attached' images

Joined recently going through 2nd childhood first auto was 72 blazer. That was a few years ago. So i found another blazer in az with 68000 miles and starting to restore. Found site and joined looking help and parts. I live in nortern nevada carson city area!

I guess I'm still considered new to CK5 with (currently) 12 posts to my credit ... so I'll post an intro (that probably nobody will read :wink1: ).

My name is Steve and I'm 37 yrs old (I'm often accused of acting 17 yrs old). I live in Gilbert, Arizona (suburb of Phoenix). I am on my third K5, having just bought a '78 K5 here in Arizona a couple weeks ago. I started with a 1990 K5 (purchased back in '95), sold that and then regretted it ... so I bought an '89. Then I sold that, and kicked myself in the butt again for getting rid of it. So, my "new" 1978 K5 is here to stay.

I did an intense hunt for a clean K5 over a couple months, looking at everything from '73 to '91. Wow - there is a lot of abused junk out there :eek1: as I found it difficult to find anything that was really clean, had fairly low miles, and had a reasonable asking price.

While I was primarily focused on finding a late model with the TBI, I found a very low miles '78 in excellent condition and couldn't walk away from it. This truck_ has 79K miles on it, has the 400ci mot0r, with original interior and paint, and is pretty much completely stock. Most of the parts in the mot0r are original (even the radiat0r hose clamps, which I replaced today, were factory original). It needs some mechanical attention, but it's certainly not a basketcase.

While I enjoy offroading, I'll probably continue to use my CJ-7 for offroad duty and the K5 will be my daily driver. Arguably the K5 is much worse on mileage than my FI-converted CJ-7, but the K5 has a/c so it gets daily duty - especially during the hot Arizona summers. And, heck - I lucked out - this one has already been converted over to R134A!

I'm a car freak - and I have an especially soft spot in my heart for a K5. I hope to meet some folks here in the Phoenix area who are as crazy about K5's as I am.

While I am new to K5's I not new to offroading I have had a baja bug. a dune buggy and currently my daily driver is a 84 s15 jimmy It does alright but just lacks power, so I recently picked up a 73 k5 for $850 and after a couple hundred got it handling alright. but it still need a bit of work like rust wich is suprising little for the age of rig it is.

Starting serious work on the truck this year and hopefully will see some of you on the trail soon. First pending mod; soft top!!:D

Hey ya'll. I am new to this...web discussion groups and 4x4 building, but from all the searching I have been doing on my k5 build, this seems to be the place to be! I came across my first k5 when I was just out of high school. It wasn't what I initally wanted, but I have been in love with them ever since. My truck started out as a rusted out 1983, with a 350 and the 700r. It has been through many changes since then. It now has a custom built 383, a 465 manual trans, NP 203 t-case, and front and rears out of a 70 something 3/4 ton. I live in the Appalachian Mountain region of North Carolina in a little town called West Jefferson, NC. I am in the process of dreaming about building a bad ass k5! So much info is out there, and so many opinions makes it hard. That is why I joined this group. Can't wait to learn from you guys!

sup guys...
