Introductions & Greetings

Howdy!

Names GL, From Arizona by way of Oregon. I'm rocking a Frankentruck of an 84 Blazer, and any Jimmy or cheap parts the previous owner could make fit. I bought her so I could be more involved in the process of maintenance and less dependent on whatever mechanic I can afford. She's lifted, clanky, and amazing.

Yall jus call me Flip, everyone else does. I'm a laid back country boy from a small town in North Alabama with an obsession with what I call "heavy chevys". I ain't got but basic mechanical skills, but fairly intelligent for white boy from Lawrence County Alabama! Lol

Anyhow, I picked up my 89 k5 cheap. I plan to teach my four children to drive and hunt (which is my passion) and do a lil playing at times.

Also it's my way of preserving my stock 1982 custom swb 4x4. My dad redone for lil brother when turned sixteen, let em drive it for a year, parked it, and got a new silverado before he went broke from buying gas. I own it now and I drive it , very cautiously , take it places I shouldn't . I've bee extremely lucky , lol.

I hate having to rely on someone else to work on my stuff, but it's not an easy thing to get into.

At least that was my line of thinking till last night. I found yall after losing four hours to YouTube and was floored.......

The patience , detailed, vehicle specfic, honesty, and general caring shown to people, linked by a love of "Heavy Chevys", is why I'm turning the wrenches on the 89.

I'm paid up and ready to learn! Please prepare for dumb questions and I apologize ahead of time for being anal even over the simplest details...... I jus figure if u do it right the first time, it could possibly be your last! Also, know when I'm in need of help, I heed and follow the advice given! Lol

Well folks, I look forward to feeling the pride of knowing I'm the reason me and the wife are creeping round the mountain with the top off and Hank blaring!!!!

Welcome !
And :waytogo:

I see a visor!!

@Phillip "flip" Stewart , I like how you pretend to be a regular NEWB, but you have clearly mastered the forum already.

(You'd be surprised how many folks have trouble mentioning soneone in a post)

You sir, are welcome to bug me whenever you want to ask questions or run an idea by me, etc.

I do not know everything, but will help the best I can.

@Justin V , I might have spent a lil time in one of them higher learning schools...... but don't let that get out, might hurt my hillbilly reputation !

Jus wished I'd spent more time in the shop, but I'm good at cross referencing and researching some of the terms I don't know right off the top.

The wife said it looked like I was studying for mid terms, sitting in my chair taking notes with a cold beer in hand!

Hi. How to introduce myself? I have car-caused OCD. I build all sorts of stuff, from motorcycles, to race cars, to old cars to square-bodies. I can't get them out of my blood - sure, my back hurts a bit more because they're all 4x4s; but I like me squares. But I have OCD, so I build all sorts of stuff, and please forgive me for occasionally referring to them as well. I'll try my best to keep references to them at a minimum and only as they relate to the squares.
So here we go - this is what caused me to search for a vacuum diagram that led me here

it was owned by someone who clearly loved it - then it ended up in the hands of animals. I'm fixing it with the eye towards it hauling our bloodhounds and mastiff on trips and to Search and Rescue operations. It also will overland with the best.
I also built this
another turbo-diesel that dad owned, then his kids ... well, they were not nice to it... this is the finished product

this is my normal wheeler

that started like this

I've also build things like this

that started like this

my chief love is Buicks, old ones, but that's not square related so you'll have to wait for when it's square related for more commentary about that.

thanks for having me.
Aaron

Welcome everyone!

There is plenty of other cars we discuss occasionally around here. There is also an "other rides" section. Talk about whatever you'd like. We all like build threads, so talk alot...

Uh, that's a Toyota FJ, but still really cool!!!

I joke with my friends that it is more Jeep then Toyota now. 350 chev, 5 speed AW15 transmission (Toyota/GM), Jeep Dana 300 t-case, dana 44 hp front (Ford), Dana 60 rear (ford)... the fender flares on the back.... Jeep, and on and on... :). That said, even then, nothing on it came from the factory the way it is now.

Hi there,

my name is Lukas, age 29; here in Germany I drive a 1984 K5 Blazer with the 6.2 Detroit Diesel (here in Germany run a lot more K5's with the diesel-engines instead of the gasoline ones (main factor of course is the big number of army-vehicles ;-)...

Regards,

- Lukas.

Lukas, wilkommen! Ganz schoenes K5! I spent some time in Germany and loved it, always made sure to snap a pic of any full size Chevy I saw, since they weren't as common to see as here in the States.

Thanks, danke!

Germany is ok, I'm happy you like it.

I'm going to visit the US from April 01st on - we will spent a few weeks on a roadtrip (motorhome rental) from Seattle on a half-circle down south to San Francisco.. I can not wait, just happy to visit the US for the first time, big dream since childhood-times :-D

You can imagine how many photos I will take from old US-cars ;-)
