Introductions & Greetings

Nice looking truck, check out vintage air. Expensive, but cheaper than getting all the factory a/c stuff. Alot more changed between a/c and non a/c trucks than most people realize...

Hello from Texas. My first vehicle was an 89 K5 and so 15 years after regretting selling it, I got another 89 K5. It is pretty much stock. Plan to put a small lift to clear the 33's and would love to get a softtopper. I am sure I will be asking plenty of questions along the way.

Get the softtopper. You won't regret it. I put one on my 84' this spring.

hello guys.
i just got a new project.
a 89 K1500 stepside .

i always liked this body style, and decided it's time to get one.
i came across this truck on our local craigslist, and i took it home.

this is the plan.
the 700r4 that came with the truck was removed, and replaced with a TH350. that transmission is dead, and needs to go out.
i want to put a TH400 in, and drive it for awhile until i will learn more of what i need to know on the truck, and move ahead with the project.
the truck is going to receive a new paint job, a lift kit, large tires and stronger engine. mostly going to be used to drive to home depot and to the local dumpster :haha:and to the local mud pond ;)
i'm a hobbyist, self taught mechanic, mostly working on water cooled Porsche at my home shop.
i always loved GM truck, and come to think of it, owned one most of the time. my first and most favorite was my 82 jimmy that i bought from the army back in 92, and upgraded it a bit.

and a 2007 GMC yukon that i bought brand new 10 years ago when i moved to the US, and sold it about a year ago.

i hope to extend my knowledge thru the forum, as i plan on doing most of the work myself.

thanks in advance.
Meir.

Hello,
Just joined the forum to try to figure out what to do with my dad's 85 Blazer. It was parked about 10 years ago due to a blown transmission. I believe it is a 700r4, motor is a 350. Truck has close to 200k on it I think. Was loaded with options when purchased new by my dads cousin. It is now dirty, worn and has some dents etc, but it lived its life in Northern CA and Oregon and has no obvious rust and appears solid.

So, the deal is this: my dad has Alzeihmers and I had to move him into a home. It's a nice place, as those things go. But, I am still paying to rent his garage full of stuff, including the Blazer, and I need to get it cleaned out. He loves the Blazer and always wanted to get it fixed up again. I live in the city but our family does have a house in the woods and it would be nice to have a rig there to run folks up to the ski hill and be of use with messing around on the property.

The fact is I could try to get rid of it as-is and that would be the end of it. But I can't seem to get comfortable with that. I loved Suburbans and Blazers as a kid in the 70's-80's and have never owned one. Unfortunately I don't currently have a good place to do work on it myself, so to get it running I would have to go to a shop to start. I assume it will need all new fluids, gas, tires, and other consumables. I am guessing I will be $3k into it before it is safe to drive. Do I start with tranny shop, or should I cut bait now!?

Would post pics but can't see how, do I need premium membership for that?

Hi all,
Long time CK5 member but went AWAL for quite dome time. My name is TJ and am Located in Denver CO. Some may remember me, most I hope to meet. I do commercial HVAC by day and Fabrication by night (hobby). My rigs have included 72 GMC Jimmy, 85 K5 Blazer turned in to Truggy, 99 4Runner , and 86 4Runner (don't hate) which now is my primary rock rig, but hey, it's half Chevy sitting on GM 1-tons. That should count rite :) . Hope to reunite with some old friends and make some new! Last Blazer bash attended was in 2003. Pic of the current rig.. Think of it as a smaller Blazer!

Welcome back!

Just bought my first "Truck" - have been riding motorcycles for years, but am giving up on the hobby because of having a family and no time to ride. At least I'll be able to include my family in this hobby.

Hey everyone! I'm Robbie from south Louisiana. This past weekend, my grandpa gave me his 1973 K5 Blazer 4x4 which has a brand new 350 V8 with 4 speed manual transmission. It runs really well and I'm excited to restore it. It definitely needs some work. This will be my first project vehicle and my father-in-law will be teaching and helping me as I go along. I also hope to learn a lot here on these forums and one day be able to contribute to the knowledge base as well. Thanks!

New guy here. I've owned quite a few square body chevys but never really 'built' any. Just picked up my first k5 project. Previous owner started building it for off road rig but not enough time to finish. My family is growing so my off road rig has to also. Have real big plans for this blazer! It'll be a sweet crawler when done, I'm sure ill start a build thread eventually. Lots of work needs done by spring time.
