Hey I miles and I am thinking of purchasing a 1984 6.2L blazer.
Just joined because this is a great place to get good info.
I have a 72 K5 that I've been fixing up...
Just put in a 383 Stroker, Eaton Lockers, rebuilt the tranny and transfer, new wheels and tires...how do I post a pic if it's on my hard drive?
good to have ya surfin murfin! I'd go with the lste 80's blazer 87-91 for the tbi, better offroad less headache. you can find these in good condition for a couple grand. 4inch lift for 600-700, 35" tires 1300 and wheels depend on how fancy you want. most likely around 600-800. and if your going to tow with it 4.56 gears would be nice 1000 as would lockers and 3/4 ton axles. and the list goes on. anywaays the point is $5000 is a great starting point but it gets addicting. this will get you into a good rig for wheeling and you can tow with a blazer but the short wheelbase makes them a little twitchy and the 350 will never compare to a diesel. so don't test drive any and you'll never know! or you could swap in a 3.9l cummins. that would be an awesome rig. but way past to 5K budget. have fun and get it done so you can go wheelin'Hi everyone, my name is John. I live in Golden CO, I don't have a Blazer yet but I think I want one. I haven't ever built a truck. For the past 4 years I have just been obsessed with drifting, if you haven't heard of it you should check it out. You no doubt have done it, but now its actually a sanctioned sport. Anyway recently I have started building my first motor. Its a Toyota but I don't want to hear any crap about that! Now that I'm diving into engine work I want to build/restore a k5 blazer. I will 4x4 with it a little, take it snowboarding, use it as a snow vehicle, and most importantly use it to tow my race car to drift events. I don't really know jack sh*t about American engines, transmissions, or what rear ends are best. Never had a reason to study up on it. So I'll need a little guidance/help along the way. My girlfriend's Dad loves muscle cars (Chevy mostly) and always gives me crap about my Toyota. So one day I was looking at his Summit Racing catalog and saw how cheap a V8 is to build! He also told me how much he spent on a replacement interior for his Trans-Am and I was taken back! Now I have decided to build an American project. I like the look of the (correct me if I'm wrong) 69-73 K5s but if after I learn more I might settle for a late 80s. I don't know if a throttle body would be better or carb. I am leaning towards carb just cause it seems everyone must like it for a reason. And thats what the 69-73 would have came with. Any way thanks for reading my life story and help me out with what to buy. I think that with a good 5-6k invested I could make a very clean usable truck. This of course is with me doing the work and most of that money is for parts. Is that too low a estimate?
Thanks for the reply man! I need to research alot more before I make a decision about what I want to buy. But I'll be ok with waiting I have a couple of cars that i need to fix and sell before then anyway. I kinda like the early 90's models too. After looking at alot of them for sale on autotrader, it seems they usually go for around 4000ish. So who knows maybe I should think about a truck too. The longer wheel base could only help, but the blazer just looks sooooo much better. Question... Is the wheel base on a short bed the same as a blazer? But I kinda want a back seat.. hhhmmmm decisions decisions......good to have ya surfin murfin! Welcome to CK5!!!!Hey! My name is Ben i just found the site and am a proud owner of an '87 K5 w/350 TBI 4 speed "Granny gear" manual tranny, code named "Joe Dirte". He has 178k miles on the original 350 and cylinder #1 seems to be letting some oil pass through the rings and is being burned off so he will be needing a major overhaul here probably next winter. Main use is towing around my side business lawn equipment but he goes wheeling some times. Planning on doing a paint job this winter (he is poo looking brown) so he will be black after im finished. I've seen some great rigs on here and am pulling some good ideas to give him the make over he needs. Actually a clean k5 that i picked up for 2k last year. Ill post up some pix later.
Anyways, as for me, my name is Jason and I live in northern California. I own a 1978 K5 Blazer - Stock condition, seriously it's like the 70's never left - pictures will be added soon. Anyways I love this truck so far, and I already have some questions for the board so hopefully I can find that help on here!

. My names Nate. Im 20, and live in Milwaukee WI. I've always been a big K5 fan. Ive had plenty of Chevy trucks in the few yrs ive been able to have one. I finally picked up a 89 Blazer this Sept. Things a bit of a rust bucket BUT i do hope to get the thing semi restored asap. I have included myself in a few other forums dew to my third gen Firebird. So I do realize the forums are the BEST places to find out info and discussions that may help in the path to restoration.
