Newbie CUCV

What goin down fellaz. New to posting on the site but a long time reader. My name is Kevin. Married with three kids. I come from a long line of Central Florida Mud Boggers. I follow the TrucksGoneWild.com guys closely. Bought my first K5 almost a year ago. When I bought it for $200 and guy really didn’t know what was wrong. Turns out it needed a complete tranny rebuild with new planetary and center member, lol . Front axle was locked up so had to rebuild with new bearings and seals along with a cheap set of manual hubs. Topped it off with some oil based role on olive drab to keep the military feel! This diesel gets better gas mileage than my 4.3 Silverado and drives like a dream (with no a/c) lol. I pull the quads around with it. I have decided to start an account with you guys here to begin my road worthy truggy build. I need inspiration and knowledge.

85” CUCV
10b front and rear with what I was told a “gov-loc” – I know its locked somehow for sure!
6.2 Diesel dog / TH400 /NP208
4” lift springs – no body
Braided brake lines
Rancho shocks
Hidden snorkel
Currently 32” M/T’s that were on the truck when I bought it.

New Member in GA

Hi everybody:) My name is Jeff and I hail from Southeast GA (Effingham County, specifically). I just purchased a 1989 K5 from a buddy of mine with the half cab removed (which means no roof at all:eek1:). It also has what I believe are 3" blocks on all four corners and 33x12.50x15 on 8" rally wheels. I've been lurking around here for a while, but since I bought the truck and I am getting so much good info from you guys, I figured I would cough up the money and officially join. Looking forward to hangin out and chattin with you guys(and girls:rolleyes:).

Long time lurker and finally decided to join up.

Been a big fan of Blazers for 15 years. Got my first one when I was 16. I did a lot of work on it, 4" lift, 400cu motor bored out, RV cam, etc, etc. I had to run premium in it, and I sold it because gas just got too expensive. Premium was all the way up to like $1.75. :eek1:

Anyway, been through a couple since then, and finally got back into the fold after a 6 year hiatus. Bought a M1009 CUCV. Its in very good shape. But, Ill probably tear it up anyway. Plan to go with 3/4t D60 and 14B FF. 5" lift and 35's.

I'm from Phoenix, AZ. Proud dad of 3 kids - 9, 6, and 10 days. :D

Hey there, fellow CK5 Members. My name is Ty. I live here in Colorado and I'm happy to have found a group dedicated to the awesome GM trucks I've loved since I was a kid. My father always owned a Suburban, both Chevy and GMC, as I was growing up and it kind of stuck with me. My first truck was a '69 Chevy C-20 4x4 and over the years, I've owned a bunch of different models and years. My latest GM is a 1990 Blazer K5/1500 Silverado. I traded a couple of guns for it and after driving it and tinkering on it, I feel I got the better end of that trade. My plan is to keep it pretty much stock with only essential upgrades to make it handle better. LMC has supplied me a few of the replacement parts already and I look foward to hitting that catolog up for more stuff in the future. Anyways, glad to be a new member and I hope to catch some of you out on the trail or at a future gathering.

W00t, Another one...

What's Up Everyone?!?

Definitely new to this so here goes nothing or something or whatever! I also live in SE Georgia (Rincon) to be exact and have always had a love for these trucks!!! I own a 1994 GMC Yukon GT 4x4 2dr that I recently purchased from my boss of all people for only $1000 which most people round these parts say I stole it for that price but however you slice it I LOVE IT!!! I know it is not exactly a pre 91 K5 but fun for me and my 16 month old son who absolutely thinks daddy's truck is his! :D Maybe one day but its mine for now. He can drive anytime he wants on my lap as he did a couple of weekends ago and got us stuck in the mud!!! Not his fault though as I am sure you guys are aware of that stupid (TLA) that was not engaging my 4x4 so we got stuck!!! Will fix that this weekend!! Well that is me in a nutshell so look forward to talking to you guys in the near future take care and Happy Hallowheelin!!!!! :haha:

Hello all!

Hello everyone, new member here. I just picked up my first K5 last week, a 86 originally from TX. Im from Wi so we dont find them rust free like this much anymore. I am finding the forum very useful, already I have added relays to my window motors! Future plans include 4 or 6 inch lift, and 35's eventually (came while 33's almost new). Look forward to learning more and more and hopefully contributing to the community myself.

Hello, my name is Tom and I just became a member a few days ago, but I've been checking out the site for a few weeks now - lots of good info here and I appreciate it. Just picked-up a 1981 K5 Blazer Silverado this week and have been tinkering with it to get it ready for some trail runs. I've always been a fan of the K5, but this is my 1st. I'm coming from a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ built on 35's, had to sell it due to work (or the lack thereof). I decided to go bigger because I have 2 kids that I would love to take with me on trips, and a jeep just isn't the best family sized rig. it'll probably take me sometime to get used to the size of the Blazer, but I don't mind goin out and practicing :D. Here's the specs:
350 V-8 w/ 4bbl Q-Jet
TH350 Auto Trans
NP208 T-case
GM 8.5" 10 bolt front
GM 12 bolt rear
stock 2.73 gears (not for long)
4" suspension lift, I'm guessin procomp since that's what the shocks are, lift block in the back will be replaced w/ the shackle flip I've read about here
35" Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's
swaybar discos on the work bench
extended rear brake lines gonna be purchased tomorrow

on the way are 4.11 gears, lockright for the 10 bolt and no-slip for the 12 bolt, I didn't go too deep on the gears because of the 3 speed and I plan on some sort of t-case upgrade in the future (Klune-V?)
I went w/ lunchbox lockers because I'm not sure if I'll keep the 10 & 12 bolts, but I want to wheel it now and lockers offer a huge advantage, and they don't break the bank

the body is in good shape - has A/C and everything on it works. there were a few issues that I had to deal with right away, but it runs real strong, and passed CA smog w/ flying colors

I tried to post pics but looks like I need more posts for URL's :doah:

NooBie

Hey everybody, new guy here, want to say hello. After 30 years of just about one of everything I picked up an 84 K5 to mod and use for general all around use. Plans are to gut it run it topless/doorless year round and have some fun.

Hi, I'm Bubba from Alabama. I found CK5 about a month ago and decided to join today. I just bought a '90 K5 4x4, it has 211,000 miles on original 350 and auto trans. The truck will be used offroad mainly. I hope you guys can help me with some problems it has.

Thanks,

Bubba

hey yall, names chris. don't ave a k5 yet but im working on it. low budget mechanic. got a family so money is kinda tight. looking towards a 80's body style k5

Hi guys (and girls) I am new around here. I've enjoyed the site for years. I'm located in Southeast Texas. I have owned (2) K5's, one a 75, and one an 89. I still morn the 89!....OEM SM465 & I added a 14 bolt rear & D44 front. Ouch, I wish I still had that one!

The bug has bitten again and i'm looking for a CUCV M1009. I only need/want a complete rolling chaisis, I have running gear that I will drop in. This one won't see much road time, it's destined for the hunting duties....and will be flat towed a bunch.

So, if anyone knows of such a machine....let me know. . Have tow rig, will travel, most of the lower 48.

Thanks

Hey, everybody. I'm another noob. :)

I've had my '84 K5 Blazer for about four years now. Nothing much is done to it as it used to be my daily driver. Originally from Montana, just moved to Cheyenne, WY from Central Coast CA. The Blazer is going to be my winter driver and occasional off-road fun vehicle now. I'll be honest, I'm more of a car guy so my '86 Fiero (weekend pleasure duty), '97 Talon TSi AWD (drag strip), and '04 CTS-V (daily driver/roadcourse) get most of my attention (I have a '68 Corvair as well, but it's fate is up in the air right now). But that's not to say the Blazer isn't going to be getting any love. :)

hello

I'm needing some advice on TBI injectors, recently replaced tired 350 with a .030 over 400, put in a new chip........however idle was up&down, replaced injectors with 65lbrs. That helped quite a bit, still trouble at idle especially when cold..Wonder if I should go to 85lbrs ?? what do you think ? Thanks Ken
