Introductions & Greetings

just an update. I bought my 84 K5 yesterday and drove it home two hours from Carlsbad Ca. Still superstoked!!!! Im going to replace the water pump, thermostat, plugs n wires on sunday. Ill also have a look at all the brakes. It needs a little tlc but will be my everyday driver. Gonna have the gears changed to 4:56's. I believe there stock so the trans is really workin to keep the truck moving. Once its mechanicallysound Im gonna run a big as aluminum radiator with dual electric fans to keep it cool out here in the desert. Oh, its lifted 6 " and runs on 35 " tires with Mickey Thompson faux bead lock wheels. :pimp: And I gotta get the A/C workin too.

Lets see some pics of this bad boy!!

:saweet:
Let me know how you make out with the loose steering.
Enjoy your new ride
thanks Bud Man! Id imagine its old rubber bushings. Its more to the right than the left but still really loose. After I replace them Ill let you know! Happy Fourth to all!!! :k5: :usaflag:

Hey. I'm Keefe Owens. I'm in the Air Force stationed at Beale AFB in CA. I'm from South Carolina and bought my uncle's 89 K5 in December. I want to start working on it once I get it, but I will need some help. I don't know anyone here in CA who is into wheeling, so if anyone can hook me up with a club or group or something in the Yuba City/Sacramento area, that'd be great. My goal is to be ready and get enough experience to go out in the Rubicon next summer. If anyone has any help or information, you can email me at [email protected].

New Here

Hey everyone my names Doug, I current own a 1985 GMC Jimmy that is slowly being modified to work better as a trail rig then a mud bogger so i can have some crawlability, Currently has around 10 inches of lift,350/TH350/NP205 4:88 gears 2 racing seats and some other goodies. Planning to eventually 4 link the rear for a better ride and flex when i do that i will also be putting in 1 tons to get rid of the 12 bolt/10 bolt combo.

Hey everyone. Name's Dan. I live in Cheyenne, Wy. I currently have a 1985 6.5 diesel 3/4 ton Suburban, a 1987 Jimmy and a 1986 Blazer. I plan on taking parts from all 3 to build a nice on/offroad truck. I'll probably be building on the 86 blazer, but I'll use the 3/4 ton axles from the suburban. I already built the suburban front axle (10 bolt) with chromoly axle shafts and an Eaton E-locker. I plan to eventually do the same with the 14 bolt rear. I will probably also use the th400 trans from the suburban. It may be a while before I get too far into it. My time is a little limited at the moment. I have kept an eye on this forum for quite some time now and have found a lot of good info here. I figured as helpful as it is to me I might as well help out the forum by becoming a contributing member. So, here I am. Thanks everyone for all the great info.

New in CenTex

Hi everyone, new to the forum, but not new to trucks. I had a 77 Chevy in highschool and early college, and I really want another 73-87. I've been doing some looking, but haven't found anything worth my time and money as of yet. Hoping to find some good ideas for mods and maybe locate a truck or blazer.

howdy colorado!

hello everyone.
FNG here from S. FL.
I don't have a 4x4, and still dream of owning a K5
I have owned a 71 c-10 GMC for at least 10 yrs now.

I have family in CO, and have done some trails with my sister in her old rig. (not a jimmy/blazer or even chevy :eek1:)
she used to have an 84 toyota winnebago conversion- a 4runner before toyota made it themselves. it has 3" suspension, 3" body and that little 4 cylinder powered that rig through whatever you would throw at it!!!(she put a few hundred thousand miles on it- no joke- but it did finally give up the ghost.
was def fun, being out there in the CO wildnerness.

Just looked like a cool place, one day I will own a nice rig, hopefully a first gen Jimmy...
in the meantime, I'll just learn about off-road suspension tech as I'm only knowledgeable on the on-road stuff...

Glad to be here

I've got proper paperwork if your interested in a 79K5. But its going for $11500.
Tom

Thanks, but I'm dead set on a first gen. Just love the lines, the full convertible top(I know 73-75 were full as well)and all the little things. I'll prolly start with a decent tub and build up from there... at least that's what I keep telling myself. I passed up a 70 blazer down here cause there was no tub left to the tub!

but thanks for looking out... and I need to move to CO!

Hello for sxit, Co!

Allllright, Salida.

I have my fathers 1985 GMC 3/4+ton 4x4 6.2l with hydro Fisher plow front end that has never left the family. Lookin' to add in a few parts before the winter; ORD steering box brace and the rear shackle flips & a new front axle spring pack. Damn truck rides Stiff!

monster suburban

Welcome to CK5, stop in and say hello, this is a great place to make your first post and tell us a little about yourself/truck. :D
Hey i have been working on my 1984 suburban now for 3 years i just did a 91 front clip and when i was doing that i told myself let pull the 383 stroker out and do a big block 454 30 over with a fresh 700r4 trans and why not do a np205 twin stick it has 12 inch lift with 3 inch body dana 60 front with locker and 513 gears the rear is 14 FF locker 513 gears and the hole thing sits on 44 inch sts tires. I was hopping to maybe chat with someone that knows dana 60s i am looking to turn on tubes to regain my camber and maybe stop the death wobble an be able to drive faster then 55 mph hope to hear from someone that knows trucks . Robert

hello from CT

hey now-

just picked up a '73 jimmy with a '78 body cut 1'.
everyones rigs look so damn baddass, and everyone seems to be runnin the 14bolt FF rears..

ONE HUGE REGRET I HAVE IS BEING UNINFORMED WHEN I PURCHASED THIS RIG. I WAS TOLD IT HAD 3/4 TON AXLES, WHICH IT DOES BECAUSE THEY CAME OUT OF AN '86 SUBURBAN 2500, "BUT" EVIDENTLY THAT IS STILL THE VERY WEAK 10 BOLT, AND THE 9.5 SEMI FLOATING 14BOLT.
HOW PISSED OFF AM I NOW THAT I KNOW THESE AXLES ARE SUBPAR FOR THE SNEAKERS I AM RUNNIN.

well i guess im gunna have to deal with these ticking time bombs runnin my 40's and all, but i still love my chevy, and am glad to be a part of the community here.

Thanks fot the warm welcome.

Well hello, Im Dylan from Dublin Ga. Im new to the off roading scene, ive been hotroding and building camaros and novas and lil acura tuner cars for 14 years since i enlisted in the army. out of shear curiosity and just being so damn tired of being scared of high centering on a speed bump in the mall parkinglot i decided to trade my 91 camaro to a young boy for a 77 k5, 350 30 over edelbrock eps with edelbrockk 650 cfm, and full time 4x4. on a 8 inch lift. im in the process of striping it down and getting farmiliar with all his ignorant shortcuts and mistakes. after looking around i decided this would be a good place to start to seek help and advice and hopefuly help out others with what ive learned in my exploits.

4.88, should fit, why a dana 44? the dana 44 is not much different that the ten bolt front. try and find a Dana 60 front before you go throught the trouble of an axle swap.

Sup everyone, Richard here from Socal. In the market for a 80's burb to have some fun with. Been lurking for a while but now i've finally decided to trade my '99 CBF F4 for an old truck. One quick question, why can't i see any of the attached pics?
