Newbie to the forum

Hello all!
The name is RJ and i am building a 1979 GMC jimmy.
Here is what i have done thus far.
Stock 79 jimmy
put an 8 inch all leaf spring lift on it with 37 inch boggers
I am learning that i have started my build in the opposite direction that i should have.
Found out i didnt want the half ton rear so i swapped it out for a 3/4
Now in order for my rims to work i had to get spacers and lug adapters (BAD IDEA!)
any way its a project and ill be askin questions. THis is my first build so bare with me!

Hey everyone, my name is Robbie, i am from Appomattox Virginia, well not from but currently live there, i am from Amherst Virginia. I was referred here by a guy i am buying some parts from off of craigslist. not sure his user name though, but he said everyone here was great so i figured i would see for myself. If you couldnt tell from my user name i have a 79 gmc k1500 4x4, 3" body lift and 33" tires for now, getting ready to add 4" of suspension lift and hopefully find a decent set of 36-38's for it boggers preferrably.

Fresh from eBay

Just bought this K5 off eBay  Sight unseen :o I didn't actually bid on it cause I was hoping to get it off eBay and it worked out :eek1:. I had to drive 8 hours from Corona, Ca to Sacramento to get it but it was worth it:bow: .
Will post a pic in 14 more posts :haha:

86 High Sierra body mount issues...

Hello, my name is Ryan and I live in northern NJ and recently rounded up a new toy for the snow :) and it has some small issues.

Here's the worst... The truck is a short and wide 4x4 so there are only six rubber body mounts and ONE of them is still intact... It's the left rear-most mount... All the others have no lower washers or rubber and the bolts just snap... This will bring lovely linkage problems during an off roading session... Ho do I fix or replace these mounts without mutilating the entire cab???

Need direction

Hello, I just bought a 1978 K5 Blazer 2 days ago. I am starting to put together a wish list. Winter is coming and need a project. This is what the Blazer has so far.
1978 K5 Cheyenne
400sb
TH350
203
44 Front
12 bolt rear
4.11 gears
4" rancho lift.

I am not looking to build a rock crawler more of a trail rig. First major project that I want to do is add an over drive. I'm sure this has been done a 1000 times over. What are the pros/cons of the 700R4? or other 4sp autos? My thought was to pull from a later model K5 or... 700R4 + 205 transfercase. Next is suspension. The Rancho 4" that is installed is so rough. Who makes a smooth riding lift kit that people have experience with? I have two very young kids that I need to keep intact.

Thanks,

Doug

New Member With A Big Classic

I own and have owned plenty of Chevys, but never a K5. With your help, I'm looking forward to building (or rebuilding) a cool ride for my shop. It's a 1973 with a built 454 on 44s. I'll try to post some photos when I get a chance, but be patient. . .I'm new. Thanks!

Hey guys I'm Zac, I'm 20 and from MI. Just picked up a 1990 k5. This site looks awesome and really helpful. Glad to be here.

Whats up K5'ers.... just checking around for info. Thinking about getting another K5 and selling my 01 Silverado. Nothing beats old school Detroit steel.

I had a 85 K5 back in the day. It rans its arse off and only needed a carb rebuild in teh years I had it (ran out of gas and mucked it up).

I recall beating the crap out of this thing.... good times. I see alot of nice rides on here.

Anyone looking to trade a nice K5 for a 01 extended cab Z71 drop me a PM.

Thanks!

Well thanks John, I'm working on it. Just bought it, had an '81 (Made by General Motors in Switzerland!!!) K10 before, but too rusty and engine leaking all over (305 with 4 barrel carb), so I sold it to Holland. But now it's big time, winter is coming and i will put it in the Garage and wait for Summer 2010, will make some small rust over the winter.

hello

hi all, I am new to this site, I have owned many Chevy trucks, and the one I allways regret selling was my K5.
I found a 78 in a pasture and 200 skins later, I own it.
the motor runs, tranny is shot, rear window is messed up.
I plan on making a very capable rig, I do have to find a way of getting a title.
it seems the vin # was on the driver door, and someone replaced it.
I will figure something out, I got lots to do to it before I need paper.
anyway, I hope to talk to you sometime here.
thanks.

Hello everyone...

After 4.5 long years away from Colorado I'm back and just picked up a '76 K5 for my 4wd vehicle. 120k and virtually no rust for $800!

My plan is to update the interior and clean up the exeterior so my wife will consent to ride in it! :D

Haven't done much so far, just pulled out the quadrajet 4mv and dropped in an edelbrok, ripped out the black liner in the bed and gave it a good cleaning.

Upgraded headlights, vibration dampener, sound insulation, and new carpet is on the way. So far I love this thing!

I look forward to learning from all you experts out there!
