I have owned a 1989 K5 Blazer since new. <grin> Yea, I am an old fart. It is in excellent shape but the clear coat is starting to peal in a few places. My odometer has turned over once already and quit working at 75 thousand on the second round. The engine runs strong but there is a touch of oil leaking through by the guides, as a poof of smoke comes out the exhaust now and then when I start the pup up.
So, onto my story, I found a 1984 K5 Blazer through my son-in-law for $800.00 from one of his long time buds. It has a 383 stroker motor in it, headers, dual exhaust, nice rims, Holly Street carb, yada yada and has about 2000 miles on the motor. I have the receipt and he paid $2,600 for the stroker plus miscellaneous parts. The bill with labor totaled $5,099. It was built local to me by Kelley’s Auto And Machine. I spoke with the fellow that built it there and it they put all the good stuff that anyone would every want in a stroker motor. They specialize in stroker motors so everything was done correct. The K5 sat for about 14 months and was never been started for those months. Seems the guy blew the transmission and let it sit. The guy at Kelley’s said he would go through the motor, new gaskets and seals and check everything out for about $300.00. Seems reasonable to me.
I also want to take the entire drive train that is in the 1984 K5 and put in my 1989 K5. The 84 has the larger rear end, 14 bold rear end, probably the 1 inch axles, not sure. Anyway, I have never done anything this extensive before but I have worked on a few cars and trucks in my day, not that I am a mechanic. I have fabrication skills, am a certified pipe welder for nearly 37 years and have a Bridgeport, a lathe and plenty of tools. I have the front clip torn off the 84, headers removed, will be pulling the motor sometime soon to take to the engine builder.
I would also like to upgrade the shocks front and rear. I am not looking to make a rock crawler or a sand dune K5, but I do want something trick looking and totally functional. I will be pulling a toyhauler as well, nothing more than a 26 footer. It must pass emissions here in Phoenix Az as well.
Anyone willing to lead me to the correct path for modification, switching out the drive train etc., things to look out for, ect. message threads pertinent to my mods, beefed up transmission information or any other help would greatly be appreciated. Oh, I do love hit the sand dunes and off-road in the Rhino, of course the K5 goes as well.

My name is Steve, I live in northern jersey, and I am addicted to gm trucks. I have been in and out of them my entire driving life, and have recently, due more to financial reasons, gotten into a bone stock 1987 GMC Sierra(tbi 350, sm465/208, d44/12bolt). My brother is a member somewhere here, and he has a Blazer project in the works again( major oops), and hopfully someday we can hit the trails together again. I have prior off road experience in both gm trucks and Toyota trucks. I look forward to a new experience here.

hi, im shawn from parkland Pa, just joined, i own a 83k10 have had the truck for about 3years, resently restored it frame off cause the frame snapped on night pullin a friend that high centered a hooters parking lot, its got a 396 big block in it with a four speed maual trans and a 208 case, still got the dana 44 up front and the 12bolt out back with 411 gears, its also got a 8inch sky jacker lift and a 4inch off road design shackle flip in the rear, working on get bigger tires thinking about going with 37inch mt claws because the 35inch mt mtz just arnt cutting it i do drive this truck daily and happy to let you know it gets about 12mpg around town and 14highway with 450hp and 475fpt.

Introduction and Thanks
First off, thanks to everyone who posts here. I've been reading the forum for the last couple weeks and there is so much good info here. It's already been invaluable.
My name is Erik, I just bought a 1985 Jimmy, 6.2L Diesel. The truck is in great shape, not much rust at all. I'm in the middle of doing a dual fuel conversion to run it off of Diesel and Waste Vegetable Oil. I know it's a bit of a heresay, but I ripped out the AC system to make room for the Veg Conversion. I live in MA and I'm moving north to VT so AC just isn't much of a priority, but taking out the AC means I can put the veg tank under the hood.
I also just replaced the blower motor (original was seized up) and I'm in the process of resealing all the ducts to get the heat really cranking again.
On the docket, the tailgate window key switch doesn't work, most of the dash lights are burnt out, the interior is pretty rough aesthetically (no dash, cracked/missing door trim), exterior has a few rust spots that I need to deal with.

I have a 76 K10, with a 4"suspension lift and a 2" body lift, with 35's. Painted it myself with 9 cans of spray paint. Put 4.10's into it, and am going to be putting a 383 into it. I am upgrading to a 14 bolt rear, and will need some new 8 lug rims. I would like to run the 37 x 12.5 x 17 inch BFG's. Do any of you run a set of black 17 x 9 inch rims you really like? Thanks in advance for your help.

new guy here. not really good with typing stuff so ill try my best. first off my name is andre, i live in broussard louisiana. im buying an 86 K5 next week sometime. I have an 82 K20 that i built a 454 and turbo 400 for. the truck is a sh!t pile so i plan on pull the 'train out and hopefully just dropping it straight into the blazer. I will also be using the 14bFF. I havent really had time to look around for stuff on here because ive been busy rounding up my parts and stuff. scattered all ove hells half acre. So if someone could please be of assistance and point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my truck for about 12 years and is all stock with 111k on the clock.
Does not need a new motor but...
I purchased my mechanic's newly rebuilt 90 454 tbi motor after his truck was totalled out with only 5k on it. I was thinking of changing the cam in my truck with the 3764 edlelbrock intake then his motor came up for sale, so I got it thinking I should put the new cam, lifters, and intake in the new motor and just swap engines.
I have a comp cam for the new motor that is 212/218 501 lift 112 lc, the largest they offer for tbi 454s .
I'm rethinking if it is too large now?
My truck is a 1988 crew cab dually 4x4, mark IV454 tbi, peanut prt heads, 205 turbo400, dana 60 front, dana 70 or 14 bolt full floater(can't remember which)373 gears, truck is clean with no rust and 6 BF TA rads. I love the truck and want to get the power out of it the I hear about from others.....but I near to meet all the California smog requirements. I will sale the motor in my truck so it can be driven and the someone wanting it can hear it run.
Would love feed back before I make a mistake as now I'm not working and feel someone has done this before and knows what not to do.

Hi my name is Parker. I live north of kansas city missouri. I have a 88 k5 Blazer, its pretty much stock. It does have a 3 inch body lift and 33/12.50-15 bfg m/t. Motor is a stock 5.7 tbi and 700r4 tranny. Want to fix it up a piece but I'm one poor s-o-b, but I can be pretty thrifty so I will build my own bumpers and other things that I can can come up with at home.
Not sure where to start here. My name is Rick, I'm in Arizona, and I've been into Chevy trucks since 1986. I've got a '63 4x4, and several other '64, '65, '66 trucks, as well as an '88 Suburban. I know, I know, they're not K5's!

It's a cast iron unit that mounts between the transmission and the bell housing. The problem is, it's used, 500 miles away, and not cheap. To top it off, the current owner has never used it himself, so info on how well it works, it's condition, etc, is non-existant.
Anyway, if anyone has any information on this thing, please let me know, I would really appreciate it. I posted a comment (my first post here) on the thread that mentioned this unit a few minutes ago. The last post was back in '05 though.

Hello. My name is Erik, my father and I have an '84 M1009 which is awaiting new axles at the moment. She's a real beaut! Well, excpet for all that CARC paint holding the rot in. 59k miles in 25 years, and we've fixed most of what all that sitting has done to her, just needs axles and a rear main seal and we're golden.

i have an 89 k5 with a 4 inch lift, chopped fenders, 35 bfg ats, sway bar discos, steering box brace, 10 bolts, lsd in the rear. flowmaster 40 series with 3 inch back, k and n 63 series intake kit, underdrive pulleys, throttle body spacer, electric fan and im sure im leaving stuff out.
