can a gm 700r4 be adapted to NP205

HI I just picked up a new project. 1978 Jeep Cherokee Cheif 2dr. It has a amc 360 amcth400 and a QT transfer case. It has a blown transmission and I happen to have a fresh Rebuilt 700r4 Trans out of an 89 burb got the idea of buying the bell housing adapter for $365 from AA but am stuck on the transfer case. I saw another form was talking about two different ways to adapt. 1 being put a shorter 10 spline output shaft from AA for $165 and bolting right up to and th350 adapter. And the other buying an adapter spacer that 2" longer to make room for the longer stock 700r4 shaft and still bolt right up. I need help finding the 2" spacer adapter if it works I don't want to tear down the trans if I don't have to. Thank you so much if you guys can help.

my name is mike, i am from Orlando Florida. i am somewhat new to the k5 world. i bought my 89 jimmy 2 years ago and shortly after grenaded the 700 in the mud at 2 in the morning, fun stuff. i am now in the prosses of building something that i wont break next time. it is a retired fire truck, not sure if it is lifted or what but it sits higher than the average stock k5. im guessing maybe some kind of fire package or something along those lines. it sits on 33" all-terrains for now. i have swapped out the 700/241 for a sm465/205 and now waiting on taxes to come around to really dig into it. im glad to now be a really member of this site i have already learned so much about these trucks and gotten so many ideas for mine.

Hello everyone. My name is Andy and I live in eastern Kansas. I have a 70 Blazer that I purchased 3 years ago out of California. Over the last couple of years, I have built a 383 stroker small block, rebuilt the T350 tranny, replaced all the wiring, body bushings, fuel tank, tires, steering box, transfer case seals, driveshafts and I'm sure much more that I have forgot. I just became a registered user and love looking thru this site and really appreciate all the useful info. Thanks everyone!!

hello

noob w/'86 K5, update

wow, 200+ pages of member introductions, that's impressive.

well, I'm another NOOB. never owned a K5 but I've always liked them. I've owned 5 or 6 Chevrolet trucks in the past, various years from '85 to 2000. some were 4WD, some not. Been playing with turbo Buicks (Grand Nationals and T-types) for the last 14 years or so, but I'm about over that. picked up an '86 K5 pretty cheap off Craigslist a few weeks ago. it wasn't local so I had my brother-in-law go check it out for me. He's an ASE Certified mechanic and very knowledgeable about GM trucks. the Blazer checked out good (for the price) so I bought it. haven't seen it in person yet, planning to pick it up from my brother-in-law Christmas day.

this Blazer is basically stock except for the trans., springs, and tires. I was told the origina 700r4 lost reverse so the previous owner replaced it with a TH350. I plan to go back to a 700 asap. I'm assuming it has lift springs since it's sitting on 33x12.50 TSL's.

initial plans:
- replace the existing TH350 with 700R4
- replace worn-out 305 with 350, possibly 383 although I want to look at cost and complexity of converting to LS-based truck engine.
- fuel injection of some kind.
- replace OEM steel wheels with OEM aluminum wheels (already have a line on a set)
- fabricated bumpers, including tire carrier and wench provisions.
- swap-out bias-ply TSL's with more street friendly radial mudders
- make the AC *COLD*
- drive the wee out of it, mostly on the street but with trips to the trails as often as possible (nothing too serious, just rookie stuff for fun with the family)

will post pics asap.

update:
picked up the '86 K5 on Christmas day. got it home to Dallas (Richardson) from Houston. was a long drive. trans is hemmoraging tranny fluid badly - dumped or burned-off nearly a full gallon between Houston and Dallas (kept topping it off along the way), probably front pump seal. also discovered there is no kickdown cable on the trans so had to manually downshift. front-end needs new bushings, etc. lots of play. loose front end combined with bias-ply TSL's make for a handful on the highway at cruising speed. managed to maintain about 60 mph most of the way. tended to get unstable (float) above about 65 mph.

body is so-so. no rust :D, but dents are bigger and more significant than I expected :doah:electrical is good, but needs a little TLC. window motors work (including rear tailgate glass) but they're slow as Christmas. interior is not bad, about what I expected. no rips, but smells like hay and diesel fuel (was a "farm truck")

all-in-all, it has ton's of potential, needs work - but it made the 240 mile journey without any major issues. was dissappointed at first, but it's growing on me. need to spend some $$ at LMC and Summit - how many more days until Christmas 2010?? :wink1:

Hello All!

Hi, I'm Jennifer from Baltimore. My friend just bought a 89 Blazer. I'm the primary driver. It needs some body work but everything else is great. Any way I joined this site to hopefully get some advice and parts if needed. Oh and I chose the user name Big Daddy because that's what my son calls the truck. Thanks, have a super day :o

Intro

Hi my name is Mark. Have been out of wheeling for a while now, but I got the bug again. I got a 72 Blazer as partial payment for putting headgaskets on a Cadillac Northstar for a friend who owns a shop and wouldn't touch it himself!! Anyhow in the early days I had a CJ-5 and loved it, it was a 75 with a 304 and I would bitch about having to pay a dollar for gas!!! Crossed the Rubicon 3 times very fun, unbelievable sights! Anyhow this Blazer is pretty rusty and needs a body tub, which I think that I may have located one. I would like to put a 6 lug 14 bolt sf in the rear and go with 35 or 38" tires. It is an auto right now, but I am contimplating switch it over to a stick. It has a fresh turbo 350 and the 205 is still there, no engine. I will probably build a 383 for it. I do love mosesBurb's cummins conversion, and I had an 01 Dodge with a 24 valve and 6 speed, that me and my boys took down the "Daniel trail" in Uwharrie almost reminded me of the little sluice box on the Rubicon! Those Jeep boys couldn't beleive it when I came through there with an 01 Dodge extended cab long bed on 315's!!! Anyhow mosesBurb's cummins conversion is a very clean looking job from what I have seen. Maybe I could do a duramax! Iguess it would help to tell you that I am in central North Carolina now.

This is an awesome site. I have a 1990 K-5 Silverado. 2" lift, flowmaster, 33x12.5-15, stock 350 w/ chip and over 200,000 miles and it still runs perfect. It is my main transportaion/ project. Want to lift to 4", 14 bolt, headers, roll cage, and take the kids on some real 4x4'ing.

hello i am Chris i drive a 1987 Chevy sub and looking for great parts and info about it. i am 17 and doing all the work by myself i have gotten a performer rpm intake throttle body spacer and headers. i just gont in the mail my 6 inch suspension lift from rough country. i am just wondering any great tips and tricks for a new person in the 4x4 world

Jack, west central Nevada. '72 K5, 2" suspension lift front, 3/4 ton springs w/2" block rear. I bought it that way. 2" radius on front fenders, trimmed lower front and back of rear fenders to make room for the 39.5x15 TrXus STS on centerline 16" alum rims.

Check out my vids on youtube, user name JacksK5. The K5 has 35x15 boggers in all the vids. The STS package was my Christmas present. I have big and great plans and no money, so the mods will take years to complete, but that won't stop me from having fun in the meantime.

The extracation truck in the vids is my '84 K10 with tha 6.2 diesel. All stock except for the crazy suspension lift and bald 44" TSLs. I bought the truck from a guy with severe Red Neck-itis for $100. He went crazy with the plazma cutter. Truck has since been de-comissioned and I'm parting out what's left, which isn't much.
