Introductions & Greetings

Newbie

New here. I joined to expand my knowledge. I just bought Xtremjeepn's 82' Crew Cab and I am hoping to complete his build. The truck arrived here yesterday and I am looking forward to having a bad@** DD/Weekend Warrior. I also have a 2000 Crew Cab Powerchoke that is a company vehicle. I will be switching off between the two.

My background:
I am from Conroe, Texas. I grew up riding 4-wheeler's down at San Jacinto River and Spring Creek. I got my first truck (1997 Chevy Z71 Ext. cab) and I immediately through on a 6" IFS suspension lift. I drove that for 6 years, and after my first deployment while in the Marine Corps (SEMPER FI) I sold it and bought a Nice clean new daily driver (2wd) :doah:. I kept that and drove it until 3 months ago, when my wife convinced me that she needed a new vehicle. So I traded it in on a Yukon for her. Since she was happy, I gained some freedom to get myself a new toy... Xtremjeepn's Chevy fit the bill. I had always wanted to build an old squarebody Crew Cab short bed... and now I have one!!! I plan to start a new build thread of my own, and continue Cole's project. Thanks for a great start Cole!

Hey,

I own a company called K5 Tactical.(not 4x4 stuff sorry)

14 Bolt FF Disc brake blues

Hello All,

Just putting in my 14 bolt FF 456 gears and found out it came with a pair of front disc brakes... bummer..

I would like to have an e-brake i understand that 1979 Cadillac calipers will work? Is this the only option? Please help. Thnks!!

I always wanted one of these!

I love the old full size blazers. I have wanted one for a long time, now. My regular ride recently got totalled (05 Excursion 4X4) and is in the shop.

We are moving to Colorado in a few weeks, so I needed wheels, and I wanted something rugged... Good excuses, right???

I picked up a 1988 Blazer in Abilene, TX last weekend and drove it back to Houston.

I will be lurking around here trying to pick up what advice I can, and help out wherever possible.

Things that need immediate attention:

1) Exhaust manifold replace - left side. Rusty and missing bolts. yikes!
2) Front Wheel Bearing Replace - left side.
3) Radiator leak... Need to replace, eventually.
4) Steering column loose... bolts needs tightening.
5) Brake light out on LRS. Flasher intermittent.
6) Hopefully pass inspection and emissions ;)

Already sounding real fun...

Thanks for the welcome. Im hoping it works out too! I'm just stuck between not having a lot to spend and not having the time or ability to do body work :grind: but we'll see what I can come up with. Want something fun and cool and having an easily removable top (sounds like an ad on a dating website)

EDIT: is there a reason that I cannot see a lot of the pictures that are embedded in other posts on the site???? its driving me crazy!

HI Yall.

I'm proud father of a 1989 V2500 Suburban 5.7TBI, color: Grey and Rust.

I bought it for $500 and when I drove it home I couldn't see the cars behind me because of the dense cloud of blue smoke.

Drove it like that for a year until the orignal engine siezed, then I installed a fresh rebuilt 350 in my driveway. Fuel lines over the rear axles were rusted and leaking so I replaced with rubber lines with custom-made AN fittings, rubber won't rust! While the tank was dropped epoxy coated it and hung with new straps.

Last summer pulling a car on a flat bed and original tranny blew...got a new one with some tougher components. My $500 investment is now approaching $5000 and the rust is getting worse! When I fill up with gas, if I see any body parts starting to come off, I tear em off and put them in the garbage at the gas station.

The truck is a basket case, but I love it. TBI is a great way to get into fuel injection, lots of problems, but simple enough to figure out. Plus I love the toughness of the drivetrain..th400 and 14-bolt.:D

In three years I've had to be towed home 3 times.

We'll see how long my love endures..I'm now dealing with a continuously-blowing ECM B fuse... plus I'm married now and wife isn't a big fan of the "Beast". She says she is only going to come pick me up after a break-down once per year..after that I'm on my own she says. (I have AAA so no worries!)

Hello From Southern Illinois

Hello, Name is Dave and I live in Southern Illinois. To be honest, I don't own a CK5 at present. But I want one and beginning the process of looking. I liked the looks of this forum and thought it would be a good way of gathering up the wealth of knowledge to help me when I find mine. I first became interested when a friend I shot with on a rifle/pistol team had a K5 Blazer with a diesel. Between that and driving some of the diesel CUCV's while a Marine Advisor to a SeaBee Battalion made me decide that I wanted one someday. Anyway, I hope to have one shortly and use this site to help build it the way I want.

hey whats up My name is george and im in san antonio tx have a 85 k5 . And Im new to all of this. So ill try it and see how it goes.

Here we go.... My name is Ivan and I live in SoCal. I am a HUGE fan of Blazers and finally bought another one in November. It is a project and a half but I had to have it because it has sentimental value. I will try to keep this short and sweet....I have been involved in desert racing for 20+ years and the first race I co-drove in was the old Mint 400 and after rolling in the class 1 car I was in we were towed to the road crossing by this exact Blazer!!!! I have always wanted it since the day I first laid eyes on it. My understanding of the Blazer's history was that it was built by Russ Wernimont (top notch fabricator in the racing community) for the Herbst brothers. They sold it to Jimmy Smith (owner of Ultra Wheels), then sold to Barry Bates who parked it. He sold it to a guy named Jason in Long Beach who I bought it from back in November. It has been sitting basically untouched (except for being cut apart) for approx. 12 years! It's in rough shape but coming together slowly but surely. I don't want to loose my momentum on this project or it will just sit and rust some more.

The above mentioned Blazer is the second Blazer I have owned. 15ish years ago I bought a stock 89 K5 that was immaculate and tore it to pieces! Took out the solid front axle and swapped it with ford ibeams and coilover shocks! Put a 4 link set up in the rear with adjustable coil buckets (nascar style) that sat rearward of the axle. It was caged front to back. It was unreal!!!! I sold it and bought a Class 8 truck built by Nelson and Nelson racing which me and my bro raced for the past 13 years. We just sold the truck last year to Jimmie Johnson (yes, that Jimmie Johnson) so he could restore it for his personal museum. Very bummed to sell the truck but I have already bought another race truck and the new OG prerunner K5 to carry on the tradition!!! That's all for now I guess. Glad to be a part of this community and look forward to learning from everyone!!! Ivan
