1982 6.2l K5 Blazer-Andrew

New to forum, I know Ill have a lot of questions. The last K5 I had was a 1979 350 4brl 3spd auto, having just gotten a 1982 6.2l 4 spd auto, theres a lot of things I am not familiar with... so I hope to lean on a few veterans here, get up to speed, get some experience and then be able to help someone else in the future!

I sure missed having a full size truck, sure glad to have gotten this.

Its a bit tired and a bit worn, for a 1982 is still in pretty good shape Id say. The 6.2l appears to be plenty strong.

The worse thing right now is a rust hole in the back that is letting fumes in, I hope to patch that tomorrow (I just got it today).

I gave $1,200 for it, it needs new shoes but everything else appears to be A-OK.

I hope to post some pix later.

Does this forum support youtube embedding?

Cheers,
Andrew

Hello, I am Mike from Temecula, Ca area. I was looking for a Jimmy when I found a first gen Yukon. Two years, little bit 'o money, some good lessons learned and I have a solid axle, four-door, capable trail rig with dual air and leather. (The more comfortable the family, the more pleasant the driver) If I were a smart man, I would have pumped the dollars into a late model K5.

Holla

Thanks for having me fellow ck5ers, looks like a great forum yall have going here. I own myself a 86 Chevy K5 Silverado, great truck, got it from my grandfather who also own's a chevy k5, as well as a suburban, and my dad owns an 86 silverado as well, all great looking trucks still. Anyways now that I'm done rambling I do appreciate the collected knowledge. Thanks

:laugh:Hello All!

My name is Josh and I just got a 1983 K5 Blazer 4X4 yesterday. It's got a 5.7L 350 V8, 700-RH 4spd auto, NP-208 Transfer Case, and 10 Bolt Front & Rear. I bought it off a guy in LA and drove it about 45 miles to my house in Upland, CA without having any issues. I've been looking at a lot of these K5s lately and this one stood out due to the condition it's in. However I want to list off some of the things I did notice so I can get some advice.

The PROS: :D The thing is a freakin' beast! It's in great condition, it runs strong and moves through all of the gears smoothly, the frame is in excellent condition. It's got: a new edelbrock carb, new chrome chevrolet valve covers, new 15'' eagle alloys, new 35'' BF-G ATs, 3" body + 4" suspension lift, '91 suburban grill, the interior is in decent shape no rips, tears, or major stains, it has power front seats from a '99 Tahoe, all exterior lights work, Viper alarm, barely any rust and all primered up, most everything seems to work.

The CONS:  It has a few minor leaks (rear diff, tranny, & ?) check engine light is on and it needs to pass smog, small patch of body rot on roof above the passenger door, missing clamp on the fuel tank inlet so it spills a little bit when gassing up, speedometer doesn't work, fuel gauge reads all over the place, oil pressure gauge reads 60, a/c doesn't even have a belt no biggie though, and it has an "LA" sticker on the back window :haha:Haha!

The only leak that bothers me is the mystery one. There are small puddles of oil on the top of the motor between the valve covers and the carb and I have no idea where the oil is leaking from. If anyone has had this problem and can give me some insight into how to fix it I'd appreciate it.
Also if anyone has a good solution for the body rot issue I'd love to know about it. Thanks, and I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Just got it!!!

SteepleJack...from Central Florida here.

I will be getting a 1985 Blazer on trade in a week or so, all original with 108k miles, almost a one owner vehicle. The father bought it new, then gave it to his adult son who has had for the last 15 years.

I have never had one but always wanted one...I won't get to radical with it but will make it a nice daily driver. I plan to replace my current '02 Dodge Ram with the Blazer.

I know very little about the specs of the K5s but plan to learn the important stuff from here!

Well I just got it...:D...the PO just dropped it off...with nearly all of the paperwork to include the original window sticker...MSRP was $17,163.00. MPG was shown as 14 City /16 Hwy with a 305 & 4 spd/auto (of course 4x4).

I got if for $1,000...I can't wait to really check it out. It will have to wait until the end of next week as my job has a significant travel aspect to it.

Introduction

Hi,

I am Bob, and I have looked on this forum for a while, I just recently registered since I have a new toy. I came into possession (legally) on a 1989 V1500 suburban. The thing was sitting in a farmer's field for 3 years, no lie, I remember driving by when the truck was parked there. I was driving by and say the farmer, and asked if it was for sale. He told me if I got it out by the weekend I could have it for $25.00. I ripped my pockets getting the money in his hand before he changed his mind! 20 minutes later I was heading to the license branch to do the paperwork. I returned the next evening (Wed) just in case I needed to get the work truck for the big tools, and start airing tires up,and installing a new battery. Pulled the air cleaner top off to make sure nothing made a house of the tbi, and hit the key. 6 cranks later it was running, that was a week and two days ago, I have since changed the oil, and stripped out the rear carpet. I also tightened the rear end cover bolts (small leak). I am in process of testing the ac and have found that the condenser has a leak, I have located one and wil be putting it in at lunch at work tomorrow, if now other problems develop I will be driving home in the ac. It's cool to be part of this group too!!!

Hi, i'm Rick i live in Bellevue NE, i have a 1979 GMC jimmy 350 ci, turbo 350, NP 203 transfer case. bought it last winter and it was in the hole with a dropped valve on number 6 and the rockers off with a bent pushrod on number 8. got the thing running last week with a set of 305 heads, and a swaped edelbrock performer intake.i got referred to this site by a guy who works at auto zone. im trying to get a hold of a muncie 4 speed with transfercase but no luck so far. the thing also has a rear main leak, and i was wondering if it was possible to replace it without having to drop the whole crank or if i could just undo the rear main and confangle it in that way. thank you in advance for any info i may receive.

Just the rear cap needs to come off, as long as it's not a newer 1-piece seal block;)

Hi my name is Chris. Live in Colorado Springs and I don't own a K5 but I work on them all the time and am here to find additional information. I own a custom off road fabrication shop that specializes in Fullsize trucks and SUVs. Looking forward to learning more about the K5s
