Introductions & Greetings

My first vehicle, when I was 17, was a 1977 K5 Cheyenne 4x4, had a GM Performance 350, 350TH, single Flowmaster 40, sounded great. Broken transfer case. I've wanted to get my hands on another ever since I had to sell it. I've had a couple of Hondas since then, and my Civic is a good commuter, but I'm in the market again for another K5. This time a 69-72 4x4. I want to keep it stock height with 32s.

Big Krusty is the name my girlfriend at the time gave it.

If you could imagine being 17 and starting it up for the first time, driving it, smelling it, hearing the rumble, seeing the mirrors shake, it was a dream come true. The 9mpg is what didn't make sense when I went to college. Now I'm saving up for a fixer upper, and having a degree in Automotive Technology sure helps.

When I'm able to post a pic I will, I still have one. It was painted emerald green, had a white top, stock 31s. :)

Greetings

Hey all, Steve here, I'm from Denver CO, well actually Aurora but everyone knows Denver :D I'm on here wanting to learn more about these trucks and looking for myself for a Military M1009 CUCV for a cool off road vehicle and Bug out vehicle should the SHTF. Look forward to chatting with everyone!

Hey

My name is Calub, I'm 18 years old and recently bought my first K5 truck. It's a 1985 GMC Jimmy K5 4X4. Stock except for a rebuilt auto 350 and the exhaust system. This guy I bought it off of kinda screwed me over but gives me the opportunity to completely do what I want with it. It does have a 4barrel Quadra Jet Carb on a Auto 350 with headers and glass pack mufflers. I had to put gaskets on the headers and will have to replace the spark plugs/wires, and the distributor and the cap and readjust the air/gas flow but it run. I'm new at this and doing it on my own 99% of the time so I'll need all the help I can get with info.

Welcome. Dang near local. Got a few others nearby only one known in H'burg. Check out the SE forum for anything local such as an eat and greet.:waytogo:

Finally signed up.

Well, I've been on other forums for years, hearing about CK5, and members of here poping in and out of my regular sites. Many directing me here for info. Well, a quick internet search for info on my new build kept sending me here, so I figured enough procrastinating, and signed up.

Just scored a new family truckster, looking to tweak it up to my likings. 1991 1 ton 4x4 SRW crew cab, ex-military rig, 350, 4l80e, 205, 70k on the odometer, and she drives like new! Pretty damn clean body, interiors all there and complete. Everything works except the loose nut behind the wheel.

Looking to go up 6" and clear some 35"s, concerned about the springs, and clearance. I've seen more than a few pictures of V3500's with 6" and 35's and they look pretty close to tagging the fenders. I don't want to do any trimming. Been there done that, not any more.

Previous trucks, and lifts have left me with a good share of spare parts, lift springs, and scarred knuckles. I have a 6" superlift springs from a previous build, but the rears are only 52's. This V3500 has 56-ers. Looking to bounce some questions off the members on here that have done this same build/rig in the past and make sure I do this right.

I've been able to swap the rear spring hangers forward to accomidate the shorter springs, but I fear this one ton will not agree with this tactic. Considering just using rear blocks (never been a fan of blocks) only because I really don't want a saggy rear rig. If I leave the rears stock, and block, it will retain it's load capacity better, but I do dig the way a rig rides on them superlifts. So much smoother. Just got the truck, still tinkering in my head with ideas. Open to suggestions, concerns, or advice.

Just sold my other two wheelers to fund this new project:

1978 K20 standard cab, D60, 14FF, sb350, 465, 205, 4.10's, 8" springs, 38.5" TSL's
1985 K20 standard cab, 10 bolt, 14FF, bb454, TH400, 203, 4.10's 6" springs, 35" BFG AT's

Hello!

Hey guys! Joining here to get as much information as I can about the late 80's and early 90's Chevy trucks. Really thinking about a Crew Cab Chevy 4x4 with Cummins swap for a camping and towing rig. Some really nice builds on here!

I am in DFW area and currently have a few cars and a 95 Cummins Dodge Reg cab.

Hello from Central Texas

Hi everyone Sid here. I currently have a 1986 M1009. The folks over at Steel Soldiers recommend this forum so I signed up. I have trolled here for awhile and found a lot of good people posting great information and willingness to help out. Look forward to hanging out. :D

Hey everyone,

Ney guy here from Portland, OR.

I have been on here plenty of times doing research and thought I would join. I am not a chevy owner currently (I have a vehicle that is about 60% toyota by weight), and a DD tacoma.

But I have wheeled in the grand junction area and love CO.

I also own a business, and we may advertise here in the future. But this isn't the place for it, so I won't spam everyone!

Glad to be here!

Well new to the Blazer crowd, got a lot of work to do. The Blazer i'm working on i pulled out of a field where my girlfriend's mom had it stored for 6 years with no windows.

Got it hot wired and running and am currently getting rust repaired so i can rewire and get everything functioning before i dive on in. It will be a DD/wheeler as my days of towing rigs to the trailhead are done.

Hoping it all works out good :waytogo:

A big Welcome to all the new folks! :thumb:

Fyi, you'll need 5 or more posts to be able to put up pics so pad away. :D

Got my birthday present delivered. Couldn't be happier. 75 Cheyenne. Truck driver was kinda scary but what do you want for a $1000 cross country trailer ride. Will post pics as soon as I get my five posts in.

88 k5

Whats going on? My names Tom and I'm from NEPA. I have an 88 K5 that I'm currently putting a 454 th400 np205. This truck is only going to be used in mud bogs so it'll be sitting on a trailer unless its in the mud. It has a 14 bolt in the rear with 5.13 gears and a detroit locker. In the front I have an HD 44 with 5.13 and am going to be welding the gears. Also has 39.5 in super swamper boggers. The trucks body is in need of work but that will be getting done after the summer sense this summer I spent my money on doing the motor tranny and tcase. The motor is pushing around 600 horsepower..I'll be firing it up shortly for the first time so ill be sure to post pics and videos of it

Hello,

New here just joined. I am looking into buying a 1978 K5 GMC Jimmy from my girlfriends uncle. I was hoping to get some input/opinions on what you guys think. I will add pics to a new thread. Look forward to learning more! My first car was a 1990 K5 GMC Jimmy that I sold after a few months because I needed something better for a daily driver and I regret selling it every time that I see a K5 on the road. If I buy one now, it will not be a daily driver. I have a Chevy Cruze Eco for that now.
