Introductions & Greetings

Newbie

Hello my name is Bart and I recently purchased a 85 K5 Blazer. I live in the Houston Texas area.

New from VA Beach

My first 4wd, 1985 black k5, ended up trading an 89 iroc for it. So far i have referbised the front end, new ball joints, u-joints, drag link ends, wheel bearings, steering stabilizer, steering gear box, and im sure something else. Somehow the owner before me had 4 inch blocks on the rear but 6 inch springs in the front. Im getting my list together of parts needed and wanted, overall a nice running rig. Im open for any advice anyone is willing to give. Looking forward to learning a lot here, ive been in camaro's most my life....lol.

First Blazer and First Diesel!

Hi all, I'm Chris. A little about me before I get into what I just bought. I inherited a love for GM'a from my father, although he isn't a wench puller like me. I've had 3 GM trucks and a jeep. Since my jeep accident I've needed another 4x4 to fill the void and started my search for a K5 as I've always been a fan of them. Randomly in a small local classifieds paper I saw a GMC Jimmy for sale in the cheap. They said it had a lot of rust, the 6.2, and a broken windshield. My first thought was PERFECT! It would fit All of my needs...4x4, the "cool" factor, and something I wouldn't mind driving to the plants( overspray, idiots that hit your vehicle with their doors, flying gravel from said idiots spinning out). Went and met with the PO and after some finagling I got her for $500! I'll post pictures as soon as I'm off nights! Any suggestions for must do mods? I want to do a shackle kit rear and 4" lift spring fronts with 36" military tires. I know I'll have to trim some...I don't mind. No rock crawling in this rig, just South Texas mud going to and from my favorite hunting/fishing/camping spots and some beach crushing. Any idea what the gas mileage of the 6.2 can be? It's not only my first K5, but my first diesel as well. I know they were made to be economical engines rather than power pullers. Will 36's be too much?

Also, a big thanks to Steve for getting me registered even though I have a free email provider!

'86 m1009 Jcode 6.2 with cool stuff done and but needs some TLC....87,000 miles 4" rough country lift on 35's, crossover, bilstein long travels all added by my buddy beforebi bought it from him.

Also...Hyrdaboost all new, braided lines, Richmond locker up front added....still on stock 10bolts w 3:08(great for freeway)

208/trans is leaking somewhere...just blew it off after some oven cleaner to pinpoint. I read the 208s leak no matter what?

good.. Both alternator lights come on(both are charging) and as far as i can tell....stock glow setup and relays...she fires right up anyway no matter if its freezing or 85deg. Inline filtered lift pump on framerail added 6-7 weeks ago is probably why. My 1st K5 and 1st old school oil burner. New to wheelin after years of fast street cars. Lovin it

I just started driving the truck daily after its been in shop or getting lifted for past 2 years. I dont think the prev owner(my buddy) knew about the driveline leak.

hello!

Ok, here goes. I'm Scott from Little Rock, Arkansas. 35 yr old married father of 3. ive got a 85 k5. I'm totally new to 4 wheeling. I've been an avid biker my whole life but with the kids its just to big of a risk. So, i got this beast for...wait for it.....Free!! its in great shape. just put a new motor and tranny in it but I'm wishing i would have waited. I'm gonna be needed some help with some things just from lack of experience. but if this is like a couple of forums I've been a part of I know I will get all the help[ i need. thanks everybody for the help i will inevitably need.

scott g

cant beat the price for the K5,thats for sure! i ve been wheeling all my life and cant name how many rigs {chevy of course}ive built over the years. However i took a turn this time and took a 1982 toyota built a 434 small block chevy stroker, mated it to a NV3500 5 speed with a NP241C passenger drop t/c and the truck has 10"lift sitting on 42"iroks.Lightweight and lots of horsepower {608}according to the dyno at 555orpm.so maybe i can help you with some of your questions.so good luck and happy wheeling!

Hello everyone. This is my first post although I have been lurking for a little while. Recently got into chevys after purchasing a 1990 Suburban 1500 4x4.

Just saying Hi.

Hey, so I'm actually a car guy at heart (I know, boo hiss and all that) but I needed a work truck so I recently purchased a 1988 Blazer and wound up liking the truck a great deal. I'm a total newbie to the entire 4x4 scene so any and all help with maintenance and modifications would be greatly appreciated.

And in the way of getting to the 5 post mark so i can post pictures...

Its an 84 blazer. 4 inch lift, MT 35s, quad front shocks, stock TH350, stock axles, 350 with RV cam??? edelbrock carb, and intake, hooker headers, and the typical make it loud exhaust.

Also has new sheet metal up front with a new 3" cowl hood. Looks pretty cool. Only 2 rust spots, one on the pass. A pillar, and the other on the tailgate.

Step one is to shoot or roll a hackjob coat of primer. Probably just and enamel primer. Not.abput to mess with catalyst stuff without a booth, and breathing system.

Here we go... post # 4....
Uhhh. Am buying the road worthy k5 for $3k. Needs a horn switch, and blinker switch.

I had a dirtbike that i was able to get plated ($900 in).. traded that for a 2004 Honda rancher 450 4x4 atv with a lift.

Sold that for 3500 2 days after i got it

Found a blazer for 4200, worked a deal for $3000 cash, a .223, and a reloading set-up

Here come the pics..... first is of the blazer, and the rest are of various project bikes.... all ground up restos
