Introductions & Greetings

Hi,
I caught the 4x4 bug in the early 70s and bought a 73 Blazer which I loved and was regretfully talked into selling when the big gas shortage struck.
At that time I bought a 58 M38A1 jeep that had been converted to 12volts and spent the next 4 years with the help of my dad and uncle dropping in a 327 ci Chevy V8 and a few transmissions in her along with becoming familiar with every part on her and joined a jeep club in CA.
I still have her however she needs to be gone through again.
I picked up my 1988 Chevy Shortbed Step-side I am now rebuilding with a 383 stroker engine, headers, dual exhaust, and custom chip set.
My current focus is on finding 3/4 ton Chevy front and rear drive axles running 4.10 gears for the added strength if it is possible rather than buying just the ring and pinion gear sets and having them installed.

If any of you have experience if this will work and if so what additional work is needed to get the 3/4 ton axles to bolt to my truck.

Thanks in advance,

Tim-

3/4 ton front axle is a dana 44, same as a 10 bolt and a waste of time swapping. go 1 ton with the dana 60 front

newbie from Texas...-waves-

Hey yall! Im Ed, and Im from Texas...Dallas area. Dont have a blazer now (yet) but I did have one wayyyy back in high school. That was a 77 K5 and I do miss it now. I currently drive a 76 GMC pick up 2wd long bed with a 350/4bbl. Its a pos but she runs lol. Was referred here by another blazer forum since im looking for an older (84-88) K5. Thought Id creep around the for sale ads and see what I can find.....plus maybe ask for insight on others I may find on craigslist. Since its been many MANY years I would have NO idea what a good or over priced rig may be. I know Im looking for something with tbi..(or if the right priced carb motor comes along..but tbi for that extra 37feet/gal i would get..hah) auto trans/700r4..lifted nicely with 36-38in tires. She would be a partial daily driver/weekend fun truck and would see trips to the lake so she would have to be pretty dependable. :woot: So a trollin I shall go!!!!

The New Guy

Hi everyone.
Recently sold my 98 silverado 2wd, lifted, the works. Took the money and bought an 86 blazer. Great body and interior. Hasnt been started in 8 years, so I have some work to do. Looking forward to all the information on here and following some recent builds. Going to take a while to do all I want to do because of funds but she'll get there. Going to build the truck with my two boys ages 6 and 2. She is bone stock now, but I have big plans...

Greetings - Looking for some expertise

My name is Greg and live in Iowa. I'm a vintage 4x4 enthusiast. Been into Land Cruisers for years. Recently found a 69 Blazer with an interesting story. Reported to be an incredible barn find / survivor. (I've heard that before) A friend of a friend bought this from an old man who was the original owner. 1969 Blazer K-5, suppose to be the first Blazer with factory warn hubs and warn winch. The owner help developed the Warn Winch and research finds this to be true. Also reported to be #77 Blazer ever built and all original with 7400 miles.

I'm interested in buying this truck but not knowing Blazers like I would do FJ40's I thought I do some due diligence on the forum.

Cheers,
Greg

Hello my name is Robert Magni I live in Fernandina Beach Florida I recently bought a 1990 K5 Blazer needs lots of TLC climbed under today and discovered there is quite a lot of rust in the floors where the hump is for the rear seat and on the backside of both rockers I hope I can find some good info on this site to get the truck running/driving right again. Not my daily driver so I can take it apart and work on it a little at a time.

Hello! I'm new to the site. Recently bought a 82 K5 Blazer. It's got 350 and a 350 turbo tyranny. Hedman headers true dual exhaust to flow master super 44s. Got a 8" skyjacker suspension lift with 38/15.5/17 super swampers.

I hunt & sleep

In my 1996 gmc suburban 4x4. 200amp alternator keeps multiple AGM batteries stored for any appliances/computers/TV's. Took all seats out except front two. In the back are the batteries, with a 4x8 sheet over top to even out the space for mattress. Keep stuff under the 4x8, and only mattress and pillows above. Sleep like a baby in it. All I need is a chemical toilet, a spray bottle with water and one with soap, a coleman gas stove and my Engel fridge/freezer. AGM's recharge from 10.2v up to approx. 13 within two hours of driving because of the amp dump from the alternator. AGM's are no good without a major amp input. They can take up to 400 amps charging. I guess then it would only take one hour to charge them. I can sit for days without needing to recharge just using the fridge and computer/tv. OK.

New from East TN

Hi, my name is Brian and I'm new to the site. Last week I bought an 85 K10 Suburban to replace our old family adventure vehicle, a 69 Bronco that we outgrew. It should be plenty big enough: three rows of seats and looked about 5 inches longer than a 15 passenger van! The Suburban was a rescue squad vehicle from Jefferson County, TN- I call it Rescue35 because its squad number was unit 35. It just turned over 100,000 miles and has been indoors for the last 20 or so years, so it's in pretty good shape. We hope to have some great times and create some great memories in this old thing. I'm looking forward to sharing in the Suburban adventure with all of you CK5'ers, so greetings from East TN!

Hello Everybody

Hi. My name is Matthew DePoint. I have been contemplating owning a K5 Blazer for a good number of years. I moved to Tucson Arizona 2.5 years ago. This opened up a new opportunity for finding K5s on craigslist that are totally trashed.

After a few start and stops, I now own a 1973 K5. It is sitting at the body shop right now with a long list of things to have done to it.

My open questions are

1) what is the best way to transport the spare tire the maximizes access to the back of the truck and minimizes intrusion on the interior

2) I want to use this for camping as well as driving around looking cool. :-) To this end, I think I want to put in a bench seat in the front. What type of bench seat and how?

Thanks!
