Hello from Colorado Springs

Hello all, my name is Paul. I have a 84 Sierra Classic 4x4, with a 6.2l. I currently in the process of swapping the engine and transmission. I picked up a 6.2l from a hummv, went through it, did a valve job, deglaze and re-ring. I plan on slapping a turbo on it soon. This site is very informative.

Hello all, been reading and learning, thought I should introduce myself. My name is Michael, from Oklahoma City. I just picked up a high mileage but pretty clean 1990 K5 Blazer, all stock and original.

Planning on it being my daily driver so won't stray too far from stock. Maybe a two to three inch lift and some 33x12.50's.

I've already learned a lot but I'm sure I'll have many questions along the way.

New from Lenoir City TN

My name is Justin Elliott I'm from Lenoir city Tn which is right below Knoxville. I'll be picking up my k5 tomorrow. I have some questions
Besides the frame where the steering box is mounted are they any other weak points on the k5? Or are they anything I need to check out on this k5 tomorrow when I pick it up like common rust areas . Maybe some known problem areas the k5s have while out on the trails or stuff that are common to break while wheeling. Its going to be mainly a trail rig but will be a daily driver to when the weather gets bad. It has a 350 with 78k miles on it I'll be the 3rd owner. He has the original papers from when it was bought new.It just got a tune up done to it last week. New plugs, wires, oil, k&n filter and got brand new 31s.The guy said it has clean interior but I'm going to pull the carpet and rhino the floor.Go to harbor freight to get some off-road driving lights. I'm also going to be running dual batteries for the extra lights I'll be running. I haven't seen a k5 in awhile so Idk if they are room under the hood for 2 batteries or not. If not I'll install the battery in the back. I'm also going to fab a bumper and rear bumper. Nothing fancy just something that I can weld a hitch to the front and rear too so I can have some towing hooks too.I'm also going to carry a basket in the rear for carrying gas and other things.

My friend, there is room for the battery AND the kitchen sink. The problem areas I found in my k5 were back seat floor pans, they rusted through in the corners.

Nice! Welcome to the addiction!

That's a beautiful truck! Nice pick up, no pun intended.

I'm back in the market for a K5 and I'm looking for a 73-75 with a good body... Ultimately I intend to swap in a 6.0 LQ4 though. :) If anyone knows of a good candidate, let me know!

I feel bad that I kind of just barged in here and started posting and never introduced myself. I'm John and I purchased Mike's (schuttothrill) CUCV. It's my first trail rig and it seems to be well built. We will see at Tuttle in another three weeks.

I enjoy the fab side of things, the mechanical I'm OK, electrical I hate. Winters are my shop time. After daylight savings hits I'll log 40 hours a week in the shop. I try to build something each winter. A couple of unrelated fab projects are below.

Winter project 1
Built this 4WD articulating loader the next winter from plans again. Still use it all the time.

Always wanted to build a sand rail. Built this Badland Buggy Sabertooth from plans the next year. KZ750 powered. Drove it 15 minutes and parked it, never to drive it again. No where to really drive it around here. Sold it last winter. You can see the little loader in the background.

Did a DIY 5.0 swap in a Mazda Miata. Built 306, T5, 8.8 IRS rear. Made everything myself - subframes, trans mounts, etc.

In the process of converting a 1968 SAAB 96 from a V4 FWD car to turbocharged 4 RWD car. Car is gutted and has a four point bar for road racing. All fab is done, just doing bodywork now. Here it is just back from sandblast and paint before starting bodywork.

Fenders had to be widened 4" per side so they were sectioned every 2", bent back into shape to maintain body lines, welded, then started filler. Fronts were sectioned, repositioned out 3", welded and in the process of filling. Here's where it sits today. Summers suck for sanding so I haven't touched it in three months. Will finish bodywork over this winter. I have had the entire drivetrain bolted in and everything fits so it's paint, bolt in and drop in the wiring harness from the donor car.

Agreed! :waytogo:

What engine/trans is going into the Saab? Using current FWD Saab stuff turned the right way? Older Volvo RWD stuff to keep it Swedish?

Don't hold it against me but I'm a Miata guy. In the past I've turbocharged them, obviously did the V8 swap, parted out 7-8 of them. They are one of the few RWD platforms that handle well out of the box. The entire floor, firewall, front and rear subframe mounting locations were cut out of a Miata and welded into the SAAB. The entire drivetrain, fuel system, etc is now a direct bolt-in affair. The whole stock wiring harness will just drop into stock locations. All steering and pedal mounts are stock Miata because the firewall is intact. Turbocharged the Miata motor is good for 250WHP on stock rods, 300 with simple China forged rods. The whole car will be about 2100 lbs so even 250 whp is plenty.
