Introductions & Greetings

new member from Rhode Island

Hi, I am a new member to this forum, but to K5's.

My first vehicle was a 1978 GMC Jimmy High Sierra, Buckskin with Tan interior. My father ordered it new in January of 1978. The day after he took delivery, he had the insert, rally wheels and roof painted a cream white color that the GM pick-ups were available with as a two tone Buckskin combo. It was a 350, automatic, full time 4wd, 3.42, loaded with everything but a factory CB and tachometer. The original 350 was worn out by 1986. He bought 1984 Corvette 350 from a wreck, removed the cross-fire rule injection, installed a Edelbrock Performer intake manifold & cam, shorty Corvette headers and dual exhaust w/ H pipe and Flowmasters. It ran really good with the original Quadrajet + a couple metering rod sizes & HEI. I was lucky enough to drive it from 1986 until 1993. I am sure no one would be surprised if told them I tried to race everyone…
We also had a 1980 K30 Silverado 4wd, red with dark red interior, 350, auto, 3.42's loaded with factory tachometer, cassette, tall height matching color bedcap, 33" Quiet Giant tires on aluminum 8 lug wagon wheel spokes. It was way ahead of its time. That truck ran terrible from day one. He hated towing with it; no power, vapor lock, over heated the catalytic converter, mixed with the tall first gear in the TH400 made for many bad days driving to car shows and drag strips. It was good looking though. He fixed the power problem in 1985 with a B&M Mini blower (yes a mini roots blower). The low compression smog motor was perfect match for 6lbs of boost, an 800 CFM Quadrajet, custom blower cam grind, Corvette shorty headers with H pipe and stock GM mufflers/tail pipes. That truck was actually fast. It would roast the tires from a 20 mph roll. i never really got to drive that one. I am sure I was better off.

Currently i have a 1984 Blazer Silverado, 42k miles, all original paint/interior etc.. white with a black insert two tone, grey cloth and a 1978 K10 Silverado 400ci, automatic, full time 4wd, AC, short bed step side, white with tan vinyl. The pick-up needs some TLC and interior redo. It has had one repaint that's a 6 out 10. The undercarriage is all original, the bed has the original wood with factory paint, the original Y-pipe with catalytic converter (California emissions) and it runs really good. The 3.73's make it fun to drive. I am looking for some information and advice on replacement interior parts, carpet, trim, glass, door panels, dash pad, etc…

Once I figure out how to post pictures I will add them.
Thanks,
Chuck

he guys,

I am new here.

I am Jochen and live in The Netherlands (Europe).

We own a GMC Suburban K2500 1974 and named it "Monster". I was pointed to this forum through an alternative fuel forum by a K5 owner. He did this because we both run our cars on propane. Propane is more then half the price of gasoline here in the Netherlands. And with our mileage that saves a lot of money.

here its is, next to our other Suburban a Chevrolet 1986 K20

I was watch the Russian ice racing speedway finals yesterday, monster, red bull and the others were sponsoring. Other than the funny language they spoke, it looked western.

Hello guys, new to the forum....just got myself a 72 blazer and will be lurking around for tips and ideas on fixing up my ride. Planning on putting a 5.3 vortech engine in it, so I will need input on what other things I will need to change when converting it to fuel injected...gas tank, motor/transmission mounts etc... Thanks in advance.

I am in fort worth TX. Had an 81 blazer back in 1988 or so and i just bought a 1974(mid life crisis). Truck seemed clean and owner raved on the engine so I sent a worker to little rock to drive it back. motor locked up on the way back and I had to have it towed it rest of the way. Not a big deal, i knew it was a possibility...But it did dash my plans to put a late model FI engine in it. I wanted to pull the top off and drive it right away so i quickly threw a 350 long block in it, pulled the top off and have been driving it for a few weeks now. I still want to do the late model swap and use this as an everyday driver so i would love tips on what engine works best and pitfalls to avoid. Will do it after summer, I am loving the convertible too much too take it off the road a few weeks now. Plans are to put escalade or some late model seats, a soft top and rims....

New to the forum

Greetings!

I previously ran a 1984 K10 long bed truck but I just purchased my newest addition to the family a 1984 M1009 CUCV Military K5 Blazer. It is mostly original with just the addition of sound proofing under the hood and sound mat and carpet inside also a stereo instal was done. I found my way here through a few references from Google search and also viewing Steel Soldiers. I'm going to leave the truck mostly unchanged with just the addition of a 2" lift and a slightly larger tire. I'm going to figure out a way to add a few off-road type lights up front. I would love to add a winch to the front but I'm not sure how or if that could work out. One thing that I do need to figure out is how to put a regular receiver hitch on the rear so I can pull a variety of regular ball type hitch trailers so I'll be looking for a way to do that.

Interesting story on the purchase. I bought it through Ebay and it was located in Northern Idaho (I'm in Southeast Missouri). I took my 14 year old son and we flew up and drove the Blazer back on a massive roadtrip a little over 2100 miles. It got almost 20 MPG with no mechanical issues. It was a great time for me and my son.

Hello, New member here. My name is Tim and I live in western Colorado. My two rides are an 89 blazer and an 86 one ton, both stock for now. The k30 is a regular cab single rear wheel with the big block. I have also owned a 77 k10, a 78 k25 with the 203, and an 86 blazer with 3/4 ton axles.
The other day this site helped me get my blazer out of the desert when my fuel pump blew a fuse. I figured it was time to become a member, glad to be a part of ck5

Hey guys I am Richard from Harlingen texas, I have has my 82 k5 since I was a sophomore in high school so about 8 years or 9 years but it hasn't run in 5 or years. I currently drive a 2010 Ford Raptor and im thinking seriously about selling it and getting the blazer running and doing a mid travel set up on it just to still be able to play like I do with the raptor. figured I would come look around and see what kind of ideas I could come up with here

Hey guys, first post here from the state of rust and rot (Michigan).

I just picked up a 1990 K5 with some big plans for it. I found a rust free southern K5 locally, and couldn't pass it up. I'll be starting a build thread soon, but here's a pic to stat off with.

Okay, a little premature (maybe) but I've always wanted a first Gen K-5. I have the first one narrowed down to two '71 GMCs. But... I like the Blazer (egg crate) grill better. (Is the swap bolt in?)
Anyway, live in Eagle River, Alaska. Just sold my daily driver and looking for a "driving project" 1st Gen K-5.
My other car is a '72 Vega (w/355 CID) Hatchback GT.
