From what I have seen, stock or "restored" late model blazers don't really command much of a premium, in fact, clean tastefully modified ones are worth more. I'd make it look like you want, as long as it's not hacked up.

It's just what I have seen browsing around craigslist.

5.0L V8 305 Auto
Manual lock 4x4
Apple Red/ Frost White Two tone.
AC
Cruise Control

I will include pictures as I figure out how to post them, and update this list as I learn more.

What I am interested in knowing, is that by my account of what I have purchased, this vehicle is very close to original. I have thought of updating the wheels, tires and suspension. Many people I have talked to since buying the rig have said that leaving it all original, has value. I jumped on this vehicle, because I could see the care that had been given this vehicle for years, and I did not want to get into something that was going to involve heavy restoration. I have been around long enough to know that in the end, doing what your gut tells you is a pretty solid course of action. I guess I just wanted to hear from the community any opinions of changing an all original vehicle from that state. Thanks.

First, welcome to the club. Given your situation, this is a great place for you to be.

It sounds like you have found a great rig in pretty nice shape. Pictures go a long way toward helping us understand what you have.

I think most of the guys on here (myself included) will tell you that it's really neat to have an original K5, but it's not particularly rare, even in the rust belt. The value will depend more on condition than having matching numbers. Perhaps in 30 years folks will be paying for matching numbers, but I don't think that is the case now. If so, I have this nice original K10 that I would part with for a small fortune. :haha:

If you're concerned with value, simply keeping the truck in nice condition is probably the best financial return you're gonna get. Most folks find they don't gain any financial return from their expensive modifications. So they wind up losing money when they sell their trucks.

I think this is a really solid reason to have chosen this vehicle. It will be a good starting place for whatever you want to build. Build the truck you want to have, and enjoy your nice find. :waytogo:


And, since this thread is just for introductions, go ahead and start your own build thread in the Driveway section of the forum. That is the place for more in-depth questions and answers. And pictures, of course. ;)

If you have just a quick question, start a thread in the Garage, and folks will post up answers.

Looks like you area figuring out pictures. If you are attaching them (like you did above), you can hit the attachment button again after uploading them and insert them directly into the text. Then you can type descriptions.

Posts are limited to 5 attachments each, and pictures can only be seen by paying members. Folks that post lots of pictures or want their pictures to be publicly visible often use photo hosting services like photobucket. There is another button for inserting photo links from other sites (the yellow one).

Either way works, as long as we get to see things! :pimp:

That is a massively clean truck, you should be proud!

It would be much much much easier to just repin the headlight harness than to rewire the whole dash as well.

Thanks for the catch Martin...I corrected my original post.

The reason I want to swap the wiring harness is because the one in the '87 Suburban has been hacked up with wires running everywhere that are no longer connected to anything. The wiring harness in the '91 Blazer is all intact.

I also plan to swap the entire metal portion of the dash, to accommodate a double DIN stereo head unit. Like I said before, the previous owners hacked up the wiring and the dash. Its just a mess.

I feel like I would be better off to just swap everything, I was just wondering if anyone knew if the harnesses were compatible? Both have power windows and locks. I realize the Burb has and extra set of windows.

Just wondering if anyone had some insight before I attempted this.
 
The connector at the firewall changed in 1989.

You can cut the factory dash for the bigger radio, the bezel will cover it.

Wow, I bet you don't see a lot of those in France, you must get a lot of looks!
 
Yes, many people look at it, the chevrolet of those years there are some home but very rare in crew cab.
 
My name is Douglas and I am a new member to CK5. I heave been familiar with and utilized the forum for years. I love the site, it offers an invaluable service and resource for Chevy/GMC owners. I own a 1989 K5 on 47" XML's. A really great friend of mine, Caleb, built and fabricated every inch of it, while I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2012. I have always loved older Chevrolets and I couldn't be happier with his work.

Other then that, I am really looking forward to the added bonuses that come with being a paid member and giving back to the CK5 community wherever I can!

My name is Randall. Just picked up my new toy a few hours ago, a '78 Blazer. It sure ain't pretty, but the engine is only slightly used with 3,500 miles on it, the transmission is new, and the 4x4 works great. Sounds, drives and shifts good, looks like hell, and was cheap! Picked it up for $1000. Exactly what I was looking for.

Hello guys here is my K5 I have some plans for it not going to wheel it to hard but want it to be a weekend cruiser and still go hunting and tow my boat and stuff. it is a 1975 all stock except for what looks to be a 2in spring lift and 33s on 15x10 wheels. it has a 350 with 4.10 differentials and the stock interior. the original paint was crimson red the paint on it now is way more red and not the orange tint that the crimson has. the major plan is 6in or more and 33 or 35 x 14-15.5 wide on 16x12-14 wheels new paint and building the stock 350 with different interior
