IROK 39.5 Needs Air Soft Pellets for Balance?

rust is not an issue, unless your trucks sits for a while. When the rig is in motion the bbs are in motion, they are always rotating. Hence they polish each other, and yes they do wear out eventually.

It also sounds like a waterfall when you come to a stop, freaks some poeple out!!! :haha:

His wheel is just gonna be bead blasted on the inside, win win lol!
They will be noisy whether or not they're steel or plastic. It sounds like you ran over a piece of tin.

Unless it sits for a while, then it will rust, pit etc. And there will be a bunch of rust power in there to mess things up too. My .02

Do the 6mm plastic (.2 gram) pellets fit through the valve stem? And how do get put 2000 in each tire?!?!:eek1:

Just break the bead on one side of the tire with hi-lift jack and put pellets in then air back up.

Id use the plastic airsoft bb's. I buy them at Wal Mart, cheapest I found. Like said before, break bead and toss them in. Hope you have about a week to sit there and insert them 1 by 1 through the valve stem. :D:D:D

I used the copper coated steel bb's, they did not cause any issue. I just put 1 lb in each tire and it worked well considering a couple of the tires were WAY out of round. It sounded like you were running over a chain link fence when slowing to a stop, lol.

I don't see how rust could form on your wheel inside your tire unless you popped a bead at some point and a bunch of water or mud got in there and stayed for several years or something. Every time I've ever seen a tire get taken off a wheel, the part of the wheel that had been under the tire was always shiny and clean. I would think that as long as there was always an inflated (or beadlocked) tire on the wheel you wouldn't have any problems, no matter if there's BBs in there or not, because there's no moisure in there. Think about all the farm tractors that run their tires half full of water. As long as the paint on the wheels is good, there's no rust when they take the old tire off to put the new one on. Of course, there's no metal peices banging around in there either.

One thing I do know is if you let a raw aluminum (non-clear coated) wheel sit around with flat tires on it, it will corrode. I bought an old Toyota pickup that had been sitting in this lady's yard on flat tires for I don't know how many years and the wheels were corroded so bad around the inner beads that they wouldn't hold air, even with new tires and bead cement or whatever you call it.

I run dyna beads on my motorcycles and when I change tires, there is always a bunch of ground up rubber inside of the old ones from the beads spinning around, usually about half the amount of rubber as there are beads. I only get about 700-1000 miles out of a set so it's no big deal, but on a truck that might get 20,000 out of a set of shoes, is there any concern with the beads wearing down the tire from the inside out?

Oh yeah, my brother-in-law told me to run golf balls. He said just chuck a few in there, and after a little while, they will turn to a fine powder that will keep them balanced.

Sounds like it could work ... but it also sounds like the first few miles would really suck.

Yeah, I'm not so sure it would actually work, but I do think it would be fun to try out:D

How much do 2000 of those weigh? I have an ex military k5 cucv with 39.5 iroks on it, and the stinkin thing is just plain cantankerous to drive now. first tried lead weights, that wasn't very good over 45 mph, then added equal, 1 20 oz bag to each tire, that was a little better, but not great, then talked to the equal tech support and they said to run the equal without the regular weights on, now it it is slightly worse. It would be nice to be able to drive the truck, but those tires can get kinda scary...
any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

How much do 2000 of those weigh?

If you get the .20 gram ones, 2000 of them should weigh about 14.1 ounces. So a little less than a pound...

If you get the .12 gram pellets, 2000 of them should weigh about 8.5 ounces, so that's a little over half a pound.

the 39.5 iroks non radials i had before didnt require any balancing. no vibration at all up to80mph. the 42 iroks i have now are a different story. i used air soft pellets and the ride smooth down the street up to 75mph

i think i have 1600 in each tire, dont remember tho, i've had them in there for 3 years now.

there was a thread back when i did it that said how much to put in each tire based on size i think. again it was a long time ago, cant say for sure.
