and still end up with 20mpg or more? I`m just a little curious, and started thinking a little....is there anyway to do such a thing? Maybe a toy or a nissan? Interesting....

Small vehicle with a 4cyl Diesel could do it , and still have over 300 ft lbs . Think a CJ with a 4 cyl diesel something was in a mag a while back .

suzuki samurai?

maybe a 6.2 with overdrive and say 35s on no lift. being tall eats up fuel.

Wrong... Being tall messes with areodynamics, but not that much...

With a 6.2, 38's a gear ratio to match, smart driving you should get 20.

With any gas motor... Good luck:rolleyes:

I got 22 mpg out of a sami with 33s locked and geared with a flexy suspension. The engine had a midrange cam higher compression better ignition very mild head work a header and good exhaust. It only got 18 around town. The 22 mpg was an average over a year or so. I usually cruised at 65-70.

A buddy with a Toyota with a V-6 (the 3.slow) 35s and a solid axle swap got 20 on his last trip to cali. His motor is stock. Another buddy with a toy gets about 18 on the highway, he is running 38.5sxs with 37s that should go up quite a bit.

I have a freind who used to have a diesel blazer, had a brand new motor in it. On 35s with a 4" lift he would get 23 or so.

Only problem with all these rigs was you hit any kind of a hill or a head wind and mileage will drop( plus speed) fast. All but the blazer got better mpg on the highway vs town mileage

Anything is possible with imagination! :D

I couldnt see a k5 getting 20mpg unless you drove it like an old lady, and had a 305 or something?

possible, depends on if you still want a full sized rig or not.

And of course, how much wheeling you intend to do.

With a SBC or BBC.. good luck..... I dont think you'll ever get to that number.

You might come close with a very lean TPI setup. (maybe).

Your best bet is a light duty 4 cylinder turbo diesel (4BT?)

I should have mentioned I meant in a fullsize rig...

I dont care what kind of injection you have, it isnt happening:rolleyes:

Diesel is easiest/ cheapest quickest way to go...

Put a v-dub 1.6 or 1.9 diesel in a sammy. Get more than 30 mpg.

Isnt there a guy on here that put a 4bt in a blazer with 35's or 37's and gets like 26 mpg?

My former 22re powered toyota got around 24 stock, and 20-21 with 33's and no gear change. I'd imagine it'd get back to 24 with 4.56's.

Look up Davesfarm on Youtube, he put a 1.6L diesel from a VW Jetta into his 1990 or so Dodge Caravan, and he gets 53 mpg!

Shoot him a PM he will reply. Hes the same guy with the redneck roller coaster, and the other things featured all accross the web and on many TV programs.

fullsize will get 20mpg+ if you are running it on hopes and dreams:haha:

Maybe start thinking Sami or a 22r Toy, something along those lines

4bt is nice but $$$$

For what hes looking to do (save money on gas) 6.2 is the only viable option. With any swap he'll spen more moeny on the swap than hed ever save on gas...

Not to mention that Ben realisticly doesnt have the ability/ tools (at least not yet) to take on a full swap such as a 4bt

Or diesel:rolleyes:;)

I get 18mpg with my m1008(k30) with the 6.2 and no overdrive and 4.56, and it screams going down the highway. Im planning on 37-40's with 6"-7" of lift. I already did a manual swap, I havent checked yet but hopefully that helped my mileage a bit. When I get bigger tires that will bring my rpms down to normal, so hopefully my mileage wont go down from the lift and tires, if i can stay above 15 ill be happy.

But a 4bt is the best option if you can do it IMO.
I wont deny that for a second...

Just going by my posts, staying fullsize, cost/ work/ return the 6.2 wins...

I did a lil math at gas prices right now, cost per mile of driving.

gas (reg) 2.69 / 14 mpg = $0.19/ mile

diesel (6.2) 2.89 / 20 mpg = $0.145/ mile
(4bt) 2.89 / 25 mpg = $0.115/ mile

Now figuring 4 grand for a 4bt swap (low-mid end of the scale...) it woudl take 53,333 miles to make up for the differance over a gas motor...

Now im also figuring tis a wash between the 6.2/ gas cause your going form one blazer to another... It would take 133,333 to make the swap worth it over a 6.2...

I tried to stay consefvative with the number (hell I prolly help out gas a little in the mpg categorie...)

I drive 40,000 miles a year so for me it might be worht it... For the average joe, no way.
