TJ, i can only imagine what this kid is arguing with you about now. i'm likin the ignore feature.

nope, not even close, 5 was the correct answer.I am not sure but i beleive it has nine clutch packs.
wrong again. 2 planetarys, the sun does not count because it only moves power, like a driveshaft.I think it has 4 planetarys and one sun but im not sure.
beater_k20 said:cant find my 700R4 literature from college, but i recall a boost valve in the 700R4 which boosted line pressure in the in low and reverse, very well may have been an integrated part of the valve body too. i'm going to look for it some more tomorrow. might even help solve the problem with some of my troubleshooting manuals.
ive lost reverse in the first 700r4 i owned, day after i bought the truck actually. the reverse/low clutch and hub was wasted.i've had 3 700R4s lose a direct clutch, havent heard of anyone else having problems like he's having in a while,
ive done it before, manual 2nd up to about 65 mph, then shift into OD and coast till it catches. i was 40 miles from home and absolutly no way to get home, as my dad was with me and we had no money for a towtruck. 3 miles from my house, 4th finely went though. that tranny was totally gone, just about every friction was not there in almost every clutch pack.everybody else seems to lose 3rd gear, without 3rd, its pretty hard to get to 4th.
how hard is this to understand?.... I don't know why we are arguing i never said i new that.dirtwarrior17 said:I never said i knew any of that and i don't need to becuase i am not telling him for sure what is goin on you are. Moving gears whether planetary or not create very small metal shavings that along with others get picked up with the filter but some still make it to the fluid. Not chunks, shavings. Those words are right from 2 very knowledge trasmission shops one being the biggest we have up here.
I was giving him an answer to his post name.... dead 700r4? thats all He wanted to know if the whole tranny was gone and i basically said no because of what it was doing and tried to explain to him that it couldn't be the gears and then said it might be a servo...
im starting to think that you don't know as much about a 700r4 as you think you do.
lolnemesis_pyros said:So if my 700r works fine except for it slipping really really badly in third then this would indicate that the clutch packs are gone?
This is what my research has also turned up, I'm just looking to confirm the actual problem before i drop the 1500 on a rebuild.
Thanks for the help sorry to deviate from the original question.
