It's a Jeep thing...I bought one and I still don't understand!!!

To tell you the truth, up until the day I looked at this '85 K5, I was set on buying a 78-79 Ford Bronco (before TTB). Then I saw this Blazer advertised locally, figured that there was no engine type with more bang-for-the-buck than a small block Chevy, and bought the the thing. I mainly wanted an enclosed cabin full-size 4x4 for daily driver purposes, with a 350-ish or larger powerplant, but old enough to have very little computerized stuff on it, so this fit the bill well enough. I've put more into it than I paid for it, but that's only the beginning.

Seems like a lot of axle for a 4.3, have you considered a set of 44's front and rear, or do you have the 1 tons already?
I'm with ya on this one, I don't know why everyone cant stop comparing a Jeep to a fullsize. Thats like comparing Fords to Chevys.

Already have the 1 ton's, I want to run full width axle for stability & strength, D44's and 38's are not to friendly with each other, especially the way this rig is going to get pounded.

alot of parks around here the full size is to wide and alot have a tire restriction size because they cater to the jeep/atv guys.

they both have their advantages, (jeep/chevy) but most guys keep their jeeps cause their narrow and light and can go farther/flex a tad better than a silverado/burb/whatever.

Except he's going to be running full-size axles.

GM Recovery team, that's pretty funny:haha: Well at least it's on a Jeep that can actualy do that. I have no problem with Jeeps, they are a very capable off road vehicle. I always give jeep guys trouble and I know jeep guys always give bowtie guys trouble, but it's all in fun. I personaly like full size trucks, but like another guy said they both have there advantage's.

Good luck on the project :waytogo:

Hey now ! I have a jeep . It's a 57 cj5/m38 that's going to get stretched and put on a jeepster frame and yes it will all have chevy running gear . sheet metal and frame is jeep only . I want a rig just for rock crawling and mybe take out in the sand . it will basically look somewhat like this pic . I will always have my big burb :D . jeez , even some of the toyotas I wheel with have all chevy or ford running gear .

i personaly say more power to ya. i dont think the original platform matter as long as you build a capable wheeler and secondly i think our K5's burbs and trucks are way to often getting cut up and nothing K5 is left after some people get ahold of them. not that tube buggys arnt cool just hate to see clean rigs go under the knife/torch/sawsall as often as i have seen on here. to each his own but i sure would like to see people try to preserve the nice rigs and find junkers b4 they hack them down to bare frame and start over. to all you that have tube buggied your K5's im not bashing you just a little sad to see how nice a rig some of you started with. its not easy to find clean SFA gms anymore. so be my guest and build a jeep save the GMs. also if you build a small enough wheeler even a 1/2t blazer can tow it. i personaly cant afford to buy a semi tow rig to get my toy and tools and spare parts to the places i wheel.

That's why I bought my burb as it was a bit beat and I got it cheap so I could justify what I've done to it . It does make me sick to see a nice fixed up rig taken out and have the s**t beat out of it and thrashed and even more so if it's early iron . It's their money so They can do what they want .

I have a 2000 tj and it has 3 inch lift and 33s it goes through more than any fullsize simularly equipped would sink in. and i also have a worn out 91 jimmy that is about to blow and my plans are to rebuild the motor and get some 1 ton axles and let them sit in the garage until the day the jeep requires a makeover. instead of dissing jeep just think of the combination gm and jeep would make in a trail vehicle!

I got one of those too. Mines a 68, and even though it doesn't haul ass like a small block, the V-6 goes great on the dunes, yep got pulled out of a mudhole by a fullsize K10, and also pulled Chevys, Dodges, and Fords off the dunes with it too. Gotta say though the Ford guy was an ass about it. No thanks or nuttin'

Oh why you guys givin him so much crap....GM, Ford, Jeep....They are all 4x4s.

Oh what the hell am I sayin? Jeep???? Bahahahahahahahahahaha:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

I get all kinds of crap over my "Jeep recovery Unit" stickers on the sides of my beat ass K5. But that's cause I live in SoCal. Land of Jeep, Barbie, and 12" lifted 2 wheel drive trucks. Gotta love it.

I can tell you if you go on a jeep forum and say how you just got a K5 or Burb or Bronco they would give you all sorts of crap!! There is a club in Missouri that has all sorts of trucks from full size trucks like K5's to Jeeps and Toyota's and we all give each other trouble. But like I said before it's all for fun. Another thing there where some guys talkin' about mixing GM and Jeep parts, who doesn't mix GM parts with something or another. There was a guy at a car show who had a A/C shelby cobra kit car with a GM 502. Well just like what CK5 is all about "Built Not Bought". I also love the tapered and narrowed K5's, it's narrow like a Jeep and has the power of a full-size.

jeep...nooooo!!!! you joined the dark side?

jeep...Just Expect Every Problem

jeep...Just Everyone Elses Parts

jeep...Just Empty Every Pocket

you need to take the BADBOY and run that micro machine over...yes we know you are putting chevy parts into it but its still a heap i mean jeep:doah:

just made the opposite change from you .I had a 77 cj5 as my first rig and then bought a 94 xj.I sold the xj and bought my K5 .If you are looking for good Jeep tech try www.jeepforum.com its a good site with alot of good people. I played around with 5.0 Mustangs for years and got kinda burnt out on em so I tried wheeling .I have a 4 year old son that loves the mudbogging and we have a blast together.Lots more for him to do on the trails then at the dragstrip every saturday. We had a new addition to the family last Nov so I figured if I bought a fullsize rig the boys and the Mrs could tag along also.

I love jeeps. They taste just like chicken. If jeeps are so great why do they all run Chevy parts?
