iwaxmyjimmy's build thread 5/28/22 update

Am I blind or does the way you're tying your sliders into the crossmember make it impossible to drop thus making the transfer case/tranny impossible to drop from the bottom?

transfer case can unbolt and come out without removing anything. The trans crossmember itself, it still removable by being bolted to the factory trans crossmember holes on the frame. I've got to add some interlocking tubing connectors later. Haven’t purchased them yet, but it’s pretty simple to add those later. The front tie in will have to be independent of the trans crossmember and what I’m figuring out how I want to do today after I do the both rear tie ins.

Nice man, looks great!

Nice progress!

I had missed where you put 39.5's on it. I just went to 39.5's last year too. Haven't wheeled on them yet though.

they are a lot heavier, could be the 17 inch steelies
Though. It doesn’t get as sideways turning and gassing it like the 38.5s. Cruises at 60/65 better though.

Now to do the 2 on the other side while I think of a mounting solution to for the front two tie ins

Oops didn’t know it’s been a year and half since I updated this thread. Oh well here are some more pics. I’ve gotten a little done to this and a little done to my Jeep. I spent a year building guns instead of making progress on the offroad toys. 6B214897-2170-4D28-9729-9F1D22A30B87.jpeg8AE93FBA-3890-455F-A471-020112C2E051.jpeg647365F4-6F94-4B0C-B786-863EA6018978.jpegCBF0138A-7373-4417-9A38-FED02604FD5D.jpeg670093AE-FE8F-471B-A4AC-3EDE524A7610.jpeg65C6624D-4C0B-4E40-BBC9-8BA97B589390.jpeg42AAD2FD-BE71-45A1-8600-BEC4D9A20ADE.jpegFDA1EED9-B312-47A7-8010-157DB7A47C01.jpegBE636A84-8C3A-4DDF-8062-6D516D4BB689.jpeg1C78AA9C-776D-411B-B241-0D86EB230D27.jpeg3DAA69DD-F158-4545-B6B1-368F4605C2B2.jpegAD42EC9D-DA2F-4209-B9FA-5092AA27D153.jpeg02B7110D-A3A6-44D6-AEBF-5871CD49B04D.jpeg41CACE63-4BDE-49CB-BA87-DBE36B7B56C0.jpeg
I’ve been designing and machining my own power steering reservoir at work, I’m working at a machine shop now. The 5.3 developed a tick and I’m currently going through an LQ4 with a new valvetrain and gaskets. I’ve made a basket for the rear need to finish my mounts for the pivot points and figure out my mounts for the pinned points below it. Still need to relocate the battery so I can do the front frame plates, inner fenders, shock mounts, bump stops, and grill guard. Sucks tubing is so damn high because the cage, those front end mods, and body work are left before I can finally paint the damn thing. I needs a new dash pad, hoses and vents for the AC. And I still need to get hoses made, a compressor, I’ll just order the dirty dingo mount to match the alternator/ps pump mount.

I haven't made much progress, got the Tick performance TowMAX stage 2 cam in the 6.0 short block. Cleaned up the heads from the LQ4, but have talked myself into putting the 706 heads on the LQ4 short block to gain some compression. Debating on getting those ported/bowls blended, most likely will pick up a TBSS intake, 92mm Throttle body, and still use my return style fuel rail. I did have time to use some deuling design windowed frame plates on the front of the frame. Also welded on my shock hoops, but need to finish the mounts. I started one design and realized to mirror it on the passengers side, the Fox 2.0s would be all in the steering shaft. So back to the drawing board on that. Anyway here is some pictures since everyone loves pictures more than ramblings of what all I haven't gotten done. Also ordered a NV4500 of ebay, should be here on monday. My plan is to bore out my spare NP205, put a short 32 spline input in it, and a 32 spline front output. I may pull the shift rails and mill for FWD low but I don't really see it as being needed. I do also plan to redo my Y pipe so I can gain another 2" of up travel, I need to lengthen my front driveshaft as well.

Didn’t want to just sit around this morning at the shop, so I Tig welded my steering resi together. I really need to get a machine for the house in the next year so I can practice more. I don’t practice it enough at all.

resi is done, gotta make the tube clamp and bracket.

here is the grill hoop that ive started. I've figured out how I want to tie the shock tower tubes to the front winch plate. But Ive got to think of how I want to attach the hoop to the winch plate to shock hoops tie in.

Well I’ve made some more progress. Just a few more pieces of tube to notch, and 2 gussets to weld in. Finally feel like I’m making progress on this build. Still probably 500+ hours of stuff left to do.

I got my clamp done minus EDM it in half, my plan is to build an aluminum bracket so I can keep practicing my aluminum TIG welding. And also got 2 new 39.5s so I can replace one the tread started coming off, and have a full size spare. I need to get more DOM so I can build the rear bumper like I want to. Really debating on making a spindle at work to accept dana 60 bearing set. So I’ll always have a trail spare for the front. Just swap them bearings and races out of the tire carrier pivot is my thought. 9AF3B78B-C5C7-443F-8595-FEC5F1FBA084.jpeg97AD9D50-18FB-4A6A-8AD5-FD7683CD0F60.jpeg

I got the passenger fender started on widening the wheelwell. This is my first time doing something like this, I'm definitely going to have to use some filler to smooth it all out when I get done and make it look the best I can. Hopefully the driverside goes as easy as the passenger side. I might go pick up a cheaper body saw at harbor freight because I could see it helping trimmer the inner parts away.
