actually its not white. its primer. it had alot of bondo all over it and the lower panel. somebody thought it was a good idea to bondo it to the truck for that "sleek" look. so i have spent alot of time removing all it all.

i got the lower section done. its painted black. then it has spray on under coat. the lower section of it was so rusted out, i had to cut it off and make my own. its not in the pic. its in the garage. all painted, ready to install.

i have the new fual tank ready. i just need to make the mounts. then i got this tool box. it slides out and opens up. i have some air tanks that are going in between the two. then the spare tire will be mounted on its own frame on top of the drawer. it should be pretty slick WHEN its done.

Cool! Coming along nicely That drawerbox is slick. I've been thinking of toolbox options, but too many other things on the list before that.

Have you thought about weatherstripping much yet? I still don't have any for the lower section yet.. but the top part I found some really good stuff from jcwhitney. It has the adhesive already on. Just peel and stick.. So far it works great, even with the cold and wind. I should get some pics to show ya what I did.

The bottom part is going to take some figuring though.. on the sides there is over a half inch gap and when it snows it blows right into the cab! I bought some 1/2" rubber that I'm going to try to drill holes into and use the bolts to sandwhich it. But it will need more weatherstripping in addition to that. I really need a warm garage to work on mine.. its only gonna get colder! Still DD'ing it though! No door panels yet either

the only thing i have done for the weather stripping is some camper tape. its foam, about 1.5" wide, sticky on one side. 1/8" thick?
i put it between the upper and lower halves.
the lower piece that i made has the foam stuff on the bottom and where it bolts to the other panel.
sealing the sides is going to be the problem. i havent quite got that figured out yet either. the corner area where all the pieces come together has a little gap too. .

snow in the cab? getting colder? daily driver? no no no no sir... you have fun with that crap..... im think im getting too old for that kind of high jinx.

thats whats nice about the jeep. heater works great! im hoping that there is some more snow on the way. i want to hit the trails again. all the snow that was up at the mountain when we went, was washed away by 6" of rain the next week.

Well maybe I made it sound worse than it is. Its not really THAT bad. Just the gaps on the side can allow a bit of snow to blow in when its nasty out. We haven't been getting any snow for a while now either. The heat works great too, actually heats better than when the big top is on (obviously less space to heat). The only thing that can get annoying is the lack of side panels makes it quite noisy in the cab (can't hear the radio on the highway ).
I'll let you know what I do for weatherstripping when I figure it out.. maybe make a thread on it.

i havent updated this in awhile. i really wanted to ditch the front sway bar, so i finally spent some $ on some new longer brake lines. i got those installed.

i got a new rear axle for it. its a dana 60-2 from a 66 f100. 5 lug, 30 spline, semi-float.it has 3.54s in it right meow with a trac-loc. i paid $200 for it. the cool thing is that its 60" wms. the same as my cherokee.

i havent located a front axle yet, but im working on it. well...i have located a couple, just not for what i want to pay for one. ha ha.

also got a 258 amc crank. so when i get the engine built it will be a 4.6 instead of a 4.0. i paid $100 for the complete engine and trans. i should be able to get some of that back when i sell he rest of it.

this first guy had a really bad day. this picture does no justice to the drop off there.
he tried coming up the hill in 4wd, but it was so icy that he went sliding back down. that trailer yanked that truck off the road. scary crap.

the next guy was turning around and got a little carried away. no biggie, only broke the mirror.

the other pics are from other times we have gone. im starting to accumilate some serious rash on the under side of this thing from all the rocks. i smashed the rear bumper up too. smashed a valve stem, beat up the lf wheel, the quarter panel on the drivers side is beat up on the bottom too. dont get me wrong though. its just a wheeler.

Wish I had seen this earlier, could have saved you on the brake hoses. I've been running early 90's C1500 hoses on my XJ for almost 4 years now with 4" of lift in the front. Just have to build brackets to hold them to the body which take about 30 min with a vice, hammer, drill and hack-saw.

Very good looking XJ BTW! I love the hell outta my 98 2dr 4.0L 5speed. I did a swap to a NP242 with SYE though, stopped the vibes and got me AWD for highway snow travel.

i like that idea. i will pass that along to a couple people that could use that. but i really like braided lines. they are one of the few things that i will splurge on. im really picky about my brakes these days, i even adjust the rears every oil change to keep the brake pedal as high as i can. im just wierd like that.

the damn fuel pump went out. my brother had to tow me 40 miles home with his xj. crap.

on the other hand....i just got a 97 wrangler 2.5l 5spd for $1000. i had to do some work to it, but nothing major. look for it on craigslist next week.

as soon as it sells.......oohhhhhh..... do i have plans. but not for the xj. well, maybe a fuel pump. but thats it.

So I put a new fuel pump in....... Only took about 45minutes in the driveway. Wouldn't start though. So I charged the optima. It said no. So I drove to the parts store and spent almost $200 on a new one. Went back home, put the battery in. But guess what? Farking thing would crank, but not start. WTF! so I drove over to a friends and borrowed his scanner. Drove back home. Checked and found codes for no crankshaft position sensor signal. I called all the local parts places. Nobody had one. My shop was closed. But one a the next town had one. So I drop off the scanner, haul ass to get to vatozone before they close and pick up a sensor.

I get home, install the said sensor. Crank......NO START! WTF again. So I gave up, got some other stuff done. I figure that the vatozone sensor is junk. So I called work in the morning. We had one. I pick it up. Figuring I needed to get a mopar one. Pick it up. Throw it in. Crank..almost started. Then crank....no start. So I crank abit more, hold my foot in the throttle and it fires and runs.

So what happened? The battery went dead. So the pcm lost its idle memory. I had to relearn the idle. Soooooo......maybe the first sensor worked and I'm an idiot. I will keep it just in case.

Long story short. $500, a lot of cussing, and it runs!

i did some more work to this pos.

free used rf wheel bearing i got from a friend in.

installed my trail spare axle in the lf because my u-joint was bad and i didnt want to spend any $ on a new one. whichworked out great. i found a new in box spicer one in my garage about a week later.

installed a 99' and up horseshoe intake manifold. got the manifold for free because it was cracked. my buddy tig welded it for free. i put on a new exhaust manifold with the flex tubes. thank you cash for clunkers!

i put the 4.6l ford injectors in that i got earlier, i think they are too small though. 5.4 injectors might have been better, but my mileage is up. hp is about the same as per the "butt dyno".

only thing i paid for was the gasket, about $14
