so instead of making a million threads when i think of a problem i have, hell I'll put it here and save you guys a million threads..

so i was thinking, when i went for the pit i got stuck

i stalled and i do that once and a while, i rebuilt the whole motor besides the carb (holley 4 barrel), headers, and intake manifold (edelbrock aluminum high rise)

and i was wondering what the problem could be.

i may ditch the k&n so i can run something similar to this
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6421/dsc01237jp8.jpg

what could cause me to stall? is it a clogged air filter, what could be wrong with the carb, and would it be easy to fix? if i gotta take it out and learn to rebuild it with a guide i have no problem with that.

gun it!!!!!!!! when in doubt, throttle out. never let off and get some traction aid. do you have fender wells? i also have my distributor sealed and at least you coudl start it back up and you didnt get the neutral start safety switch wet.

well even on the road it does it on start up, idk why tho..

and i did, the tires wouldn't spin, blew 3 seals doing that, between the t case to both driveshafts alnong with the pinion on the rear, which im not going to bother with..tho the 2 seals on the t case i will.

that and trying to turn the wheel and i blew the p.s. box seal, ingnoring that.

well, you probably wont blow those seals next time! so when you gun it for just a second it dies right after that? even when hot? mine does that too and i think its because i have my idle set really low and all that quick surge of gas going in with not much oxygen kind of drowns it?

it was running for a while, that was near the end of a 2 hr wheeling day after driving 30 minutes to get there..do you think its a clogged filter? should i seafoam it? im def. going to snorkel it and solve 2 problems at one time.

do you guys leak, or am i the only one?

just change the filter, i do mine every six months or so. i also dont leak anything, i did leak at every place it could at one point. i have since fixed that but got a new one at the tcase rear output. ive replaced the front/rear seals on the motor and the pump seal on the trans. valve covers, dist, and intake gaskets. water pump stuff like, tstat and hoses, radiator, and all new power steering system. fuel line rubbers. this was all over two years or so just replacing as necessary. now i can wheel the piss out of it and not worry about not being able to get out of the hole and get back home in time for suppa.

My guess is fuel filter. I'd change it first. If it's clogged it will have the symptoms you have described. Your air filter is not causing you to stall, it would have to be pretty f'd up to cause something like that.

Also in my experiences Holley's are pretty finicky when it comes to dirt and debri inside of them. There might be a little piece of dirt floating around inside the bowl the occassionally rams itself inside the needle and seat assembly causing it to starve for fuel. After changing the fuel filter i'd take of the fuel bowls and clean them out with carb cleaner and also the needle and seat assembly.

How low is your idle, I think you have a timing issue. Too far retarded maybe, try turning your dizzy counterclockwise a little at a time to advance it and see if that fixes it, doing this will also cause your idle to rise.

how difficult is that to do? never played around with any of that..and do i have to drain my tank?

Very easy. Fuel filter should be between the fuel pump and carb inlet. Just swap it out with one of those clear plasic Fram ones. The carb can be messed with while still on the engine but it is easier to do off the engine. The bowl is held in place with four screws and the needle and seat assebly is on the top of the bowl. Only thing is the needle and seat are an adjustable part of the carb so by taking them off your taking the carb out of adjustment but it is really easy to get back into adjustment. A manual can tell you how, it's easier to look at pics with a description of what your doing and it's also more than I feel like typing right now.

Oh and to answer your question, you don't have to drain the tank.

josh its not a timing issue, but i would guess its an air to fuel ratio problem. my idle is low no tach so not exactly sure, maybe 600 @ 6* but i tell you what, its where she likes to be and im not questioning it. David (rodeo98) at SAO said i just have too much power :D
cleaning a carb is not that big of a job dude, just get a nice big clean table to work on and tear into it. a manual is handy but if you do it in one sitting you can probably handle it without.

hooray another problem!

i go to change the tailshaft gasket and the case chips beyond repair/ignore, hopefully my step mom's cousin who helped me do my whole truck can find an old one around the shop where he works, if not, where can I get one?

you saying the cone thing on the end of the transfer case? you chipped that removing the seal? you can find that from any 1/2 or 3/4 with the 208 with your body style i believe. not sure of pre 80 but a 208 chevy is a 208 on that piece. several guys have 208s laying around, i posted up a want ad for the same part youre looking for recently but found one locally.

yeah, thats it! i know all 1/2 tons had the 208, the 3/4 idk what it had and the 1 ton had a 205..what was on the 3/4?

pretty sure 208, several i have looked at have had em. im sure you can find one here on the board pretty quickly.
