Desert_K5 submitted a new Build:

Jolly Green

I couldn't pass up the M1008 @Capt Ron had for sale. This will be a pretty vanilla build for right now and mainly want to document it from arrival (6-24-2020) to wherever it ends up. I have enough extra parts laying around to ad a small lift and 33" tires. 2.5" springs and flip kit, Bilstein shocks etc. All routine maintenance is the first order of business and learning what I can about the 6.2 diesel. When and if it happens, I would like a 12v Cummins or possibly a Gen 5 / 8 speed swap. we will see how it goes!

On a side note: I ended up using Patriot Transport LLC for shipping. They were reasonably priced and it will be a 1 day ship from CO to NV. I will edit with how the shipping experience goes when completed, satisfied or not.

Oh yeah! I can’t wait. I appreciate the hook up @Capt Ron. We’ll have to shoot the breeze at Blazer Bash.

Any pointers or pitfalls to avoid on the 6.2 from the brotherhood? No I'm not LS swapping it right now lol. (usually my own standard answer) This is my first diesel anything, let alone Squarebody so any help is appreciated.

The only thing I know about those 6.2's is, if you drive one up Pikes Peak, it has to be in 4low above 12000 feet and the guy on the bicycle who you passed 10 miles back, will pass you before you get to the top.

Actually there’s a solid half dozen 6.2/6.5 guys on this board. Post in the diesel forum, they’ll come right out

You need to run an additive. Those engines were designed when diesel had a lot of sulfur to lubricate injectors and what not. So you need to use an additive to replace what was lost in the changes to diesel.

The other downside with CUCV trucks is the military liked to run a lot of stuff for fuel that wasn't the best. So it can end up being a when not if that the fuel pump and injectors need replaced. The diesel mechanic we used when I had a CUCV told me that as long as people kept buying the military trucks, they would always have work. This was back in the late 90's when the military was unloading a lot of CUCV trucks.

The one thing I liked about that 6.2L was getting 19mpg in the Blazer.

Oh and something else I didn't know until I owned my CUCV for several years, they ALL use the same ignition key. I changed mine quick because I knew hanging out with CK5 guys it wasn't a long shot for one of them to have a CUCV key and decide I needed pranked!

Not to mention general theft concerns.

Thanks for the heads up on the additive. Any tips on which additive?

This thing is pretty cool! It fires right up for now and I'm kinda digging the rattle.
