Jolly Green

The weakest link in the 6.2 is the crank. Make sure you check the harmonic balancer for wear and degrading rubber. Mine looked fine but being almost 30yrs old I just replaced it. I used a Delco but am already wishing I went with a Fluid-damper.

The starter relay under the dash is also prone to failure and hanging. Google “doghead relay mod” for the instruction over on Steelsoldiers. Steelsoldiers.com is an amazing resource for these old heaps.

The cartridge fuel filter is also problematic. I’m about to swap mine for a spin on version.

As you probably know the electrical system is a bastardized 24/12v combo. Some like to convert to 12v only but that will require a new starter and some rewiring.

Fluidampner is on the short list, I've used them on other builds (gas) back in the day. Luckily the spin on filter came with the spare parts so that will be installed too. Thank you for the info, I'll be absorbing all I can.

I've been thrashing on the K5 for BB, so time has been limited. I've added a few things to the list: swapping to 35's left over from the K5, so a 4" lift instead of 2.5. Bilstien shocks. I'm thinking of SYE kit but it looks pricey for a 208, so maybe a 241 from @CaptRon is in order.

@Fastereddie which trans would you run behind this 6.2? If you want to sell the ORD springs and trans/tcase from your K5 let me know. I'm thinking an overdrive would be good on this one.

Dump a 4L80E in it then your ready for the 454 swap once that 6.2 crank snaps like a twig.

A little TIG practice. Don't laugh too hard I'm just starting. Have the 35's ready to go with wheels. (K5 left over) Lift kit ready and will be starting on install next weekend if time permits. Will the 2.5 flip kit from the K5 work on this truck or no?

Should work on that truck

Correct me if I'm wrong here but I thought the ORD kits could be used on the 56" rear springs if the shackle flip brackets are swapped side to side.

It's not length but the spacing side to side. I believe 1 ton frames have narrower shackle mounts. ORD shows a different part # for 1 tons.

Well, I ended up selling her off. I'm regretting it already, but I think things will be coming full circle (hopefully) with a Suburban or another K5. Short story is I sold it off to get a Jeep and now the Jeep is getting the axe.
