JR's 91 K5 Modern meets Classic (NV4500 help needed)

Yea I'm gonna run the 79 front clip, and eventually the 74 tailgate.

A worn out 150K mile nv4500 is going for like about the same 800-1000

But Dana 60's are outrageous. Right around 1200 average for a rebuildable one

Well after thinking about it for awhile I think I'm gonna run the sm465 np205 combo I have right now and hold off for a nv4500 swap until I get some extra cash, at least I'll be able to drive it with the 4 speed.

Need to move out here I have seen numerous ones in the 600-800 range

What were you thinking expedition wise? I am planning my build as an over landing rig. No crazy lift, just decent all around performance with decent reliability.

Well actually it started out going to be built for expedition trips but now it's just gonna be like a go anywhere camping rig.

I wanted to do one of the roof too tents and have all the accessory power outlets. One of those shower deals and a lot of storage in it for parts and supplies.

Now I'm just looking at a winch, on board air and a roll cage eventually.

I really like that one guy on here that has the blue K10 all decked out for expedition stuff. Big camper in the back and everything lol plus an 8.1L under the hood if I'm not mistaken

That would be Larry if memory serves, that K10 is amazing! Pretty sure it's an 8.1 and sm465. I'll be watching this build!

Yea see that's awesome. 8.1 with a nv4500. That's just gotta be fun to drive.

But back to my blazer lol, I'll tell you life is really getting in the way recently lol but I've made some progress on my new frame.

So far I have managed to get my a bomb front winch bumper in place, the FUSH bolted on, the new high clearance engine crossmember in, alcan springs finally bolted in place. And not to mention about a life time of scrubing grease and rust off so I could paint and prime my frame.

I also got my sm465 all cleaned back up and have twin sticked the np205.

I'd put some pics up but photobucket has decided to suck today so I guess it'll have to wait.

But progresss is being made lol

Okay it's been awhile so I'm going to do an update/recap

This is my new frame after finding out that May blazer was running a frame that looked like this |/

I started to do some shock mounts on the axles, I'm running a van 14bolt so I think that I'll be able to get away with my shocks being that far out. They clear the u bolt plate at full droop and compression

This is the front and a rough estimate at a mounting height. Oh and I put a 6.0L in and started some mock up on it

This just looked cool

From there I started to reseal and get rid of all the slop commonly found in sm465

All new shift forks, detent balls and springs etc...
All cost about $45.00 and it was a major improvement over the original worn out stuff

Just a 38 year old sm465 and the inside looks brand new. Only wear was on the 1st and reverse gear teeth. I'm assuming because of never coming to a complete stop before going to first or reverse

From there I started to collect the parts to do crossover steering so I wouldn't limit my alcans with the steering linkage. This is the reid knuckle and high steer arm from Off Road Design. All very high quality parts and well worth it in my opinion
