June Rubicon Trip (more pics)

This sounds like way too much fun. If I was closer, I would be all in for sure.

In a few years when the kids are older, I will be hitting you guys up to do some CA wheelin.:thumb:

sounds like a plan :D

Im down with that!!

Then are you going to park at wentworth, wheel into Loon and camp? Parking is limited at wentworth right? I'm down to do that run as well.

Don't worry, there was this dude that commented on a video on YouTube that said hydro assist is stupid, a bad idea, for rookie drivers, and the weak.

Lol

Yeah I saw a full size Dodge on Soup that couldnt steer but then again it was a Dodge :haha:

I'll appreciate the upgrade more when I do it.....

You can't get a trailer to Wentworth springs campground. It is a highly unmaintined road. Usually unless it is a really busy weekend there is always room for trailer parking at the spillway. Or even the loon lake chalet.

Not sure if any of you guys are towing or not.

Wws campground is nice because it is secluded and usually dead. But it is a 5 mile crap road into it, and the trail is a little lame from wws to loon spur. Only one semi decent obsticle.

I'll be trailering to Loon Lake and parking at the boat ramp.

And get better Chris, accidents bring the suck.

OK gotcha. We're camping at Loon Friday, we just want to go in through wentworth springs. Eric would need to park his tow rig at Loon with K85 then. I'm not trailering and either it bmxbryant as far as I know.

I wish! It's on my list for next year. I recently moved to northern Oregon, and making the trip just isn't going to work out for me this year. :)

Were ready when you're ready!

I read your thread a couple times Colby, thanks for sharing again. I'm really doubting my choice not to install the hydro before this trip though :doah:

Haha youll be ok. the frame has the welded fix and ORD support right?

Hope you make it out some time! We'll meet at Moab next year right? :D

Lol

Pretty much the only reason i put my hydro on. lol

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I did the trail once with and once without hydro, and it was fine both times. Obviously, hydro is preferred, but not necessary.

To those of you trailering your rigs:
I haven't read this thread thoroughly enough to know if what I'm about to say is relevant :doah:, but.... It sounds like you're going from Loon to Tahoe, so here's my 0.02. To get from Hwy 50 up to Loon Lake takes about an hour because it's such a winding road. After bouncing through the Rubicon Trail, I wouldn't really want to drive 2 more hours in my wheeler to get back to Loon Lake where I'd then have to load up the truck and drive an hour back to the highway. So, if you can find a good place to drop your tow rig and trailer at a site closer to Hwy 50 on the route to Loon Lake, I think you'll prefer to do that.

Another option would be to drop your trailer at the Tahoe end of the trail and then drive your wheeler down to Loon Lake via the highway. But you'd be 2 hours away from the trailhead at that point.

This is definitely something I've been thinking about. I think we're hell bent on being able to say we made it all the way through the trail. That comes with some inconveniences as you mentioned. I know Sunday will be a long day but I'm not sure what everyone else thinks?

Unless someone knows of a really good/secure location along hwy50, or on the Tahoe side, I don't like the idea of leaving my rig some place for 2 days. I'd rather leave it in a campground area.

Having said that, yes, it sounds like Sunday is going to suck. I had planned on staying at a hotel Sunday night so I can shower and recharge my batteries before my 10+ hour drive home. Maybe I'll find a hotel in the Tahoe area, park the Blazer for the night, and drive back to Loon Lake in the morning. Dunno

Same here. I know the campground host keeps a close watch on things.

Either way. I'll be driving back to where our tow rigs are anyway so if you come with me we atleast we both know we make it back.

Tahoe is pretty expensive to stay in, even for some of the sticky sheets inn places. Up to you though! I think we'll be tired Sunday but I know it'll be worth it. It's going to be key to get up early on Sunday.

Don't go 50 to ice house imo.

I always drive up 80 to hwy49 towards cool. Then to Georgetown on Wentworth springs rd. It is a nice road in great shape and takes you right to ice house much closer to loon lake turnoff.

I was planning on taking the 50 to Ice House, but I guess 80-49-wentworth springs rd is better.

Should I go through Sac or around the south/east side of it?

You can take the "cap city freeway" which is the more southern 80 route. It would be a shortcut do you coming from the south.

Also watched a little Fordyce action. Yeah, I don't see myself doing that. lol Body panels are too nice still :D
