Just bought a new gmc sierra! *trip report post 247*

Erma Gherd! I have had the best idea on how im going to molest this thing when the warranty is up! Im going to swap it to the "standard length" bed! Cause with these trucks, you have short, standard, and long but the 1500 crew cabs only come in short. Long is just too long, and short isnt quite enough. So, im just going to buy a good bed thats the same color as mine, stretch the frame, and have (possibly) the only crew cab standard bed truck out there! And then im going to also swap in a 6.0, full denali interior, and the 9.5" rear end. I probably wont do any of that... but its a bad ass thought! It would make a sweet ass truck that would be perfect for me!

You and your ideas... you're like a little kid :haha:

At least i understand that most wont be seen through. Im not delusional enough to think that most of these ideas will or should happen. I just like to fantasize.

Getting that done this weekend. That was a condition of the purchase. They took $900 off for letting them have their running boards back. :screwy: Didnt have time at the actual time of purchase due to them having no techs there that late on a Sunday. But this Sunday its going back to get the boards removed and the oil changed.

Not really. They just said they would do it when they were pulling the running boards so i said, oky doky.

Ya shoulda bought a 2500!

I would have. If i needed it. I just dont tow enough to justify the extra cost, mpg loss, and not as good of ride. Not worth it for me and what i do.

Geesh, my replies to myself make me look like a post whore... Anyway, I did speak with the service manager at my local GMC dealer about things i want to do and asked if they would void my warranty. I asked him if i could change my own oil, level it, add bigger tires, and remove the air damn. He said all of that would be just fine. He said pretty much the only time any of that could lead to a denial situation is if there is obvious abuse to the vehicle after the modifications are done. I obviously dont intend to abuse this truck in any way that will be obvious anyway...

i have done spacer kits and rancho lift/level quick struts .

hands down best bang for the buck and ride is the rancho strut units i think.

but there is nothing wrong with basic level kits.

and that lower airdam on front bumper is also the fog light suround . the bumper will look real goofy with it off. i work at a body shop these days and have changed a few out . ugly bumper with out that lower black section .

and fyi those running boards are stupid easy to pop off .

My ride stayed the same with the rough country spacers. The AFE cold air added a little mileage but I gained 2 mpg when I added the suprchips to it. I recommend taking that lower lip off the air dam. I about ripped the whole assembly off mine when the snow caught it backing up.

It looks like most do a 2.5" kit to level them. I want to do a 1.5". Im only talking about the lower air dam. Not the part that surrounds the fog lights. The bottom 2 inches or so. I'll see if i can find some pics of what im talking about. About the running boards, i know. THey would take me probably 20 min to remove, but they said they were going to do it and i dont want to risk anything by doing it myself.

Is yours a DOD motor? If so, did the superchips programer disable that? What is your setup and what kind of mpgs are you getting?

It will be like this,

After,

Except im not raising my front end that high! Its just two bolts and then some clips hold it in place. So yea, just to be clear, the part around the fog lights wont be touched, just that bottom little add on 3" piece.

ah

havent seen much with lower lip in my area these days . just taking that off make it look better / meaner also .

and 1.5 prob be good lift / level . most i do tho for pepole is 2 inch as after that you get problems trying to get caster / camber in to spec on some vehicles .

Mine has dod. I'm running 285 bfg mts gettng mid 16s right now around town. Over 17 if mostly highway. Superchips lleft it dod but adjusted the computer for my new tire size and on performance 91 setting is a fun beast to drive. My mileage dropped right before I did the programmer I need to change the plugs and wires. I averaged 18 mpg when I first got it bone stock.
