Ok guys just picked up a 86 blazer from craigslist. Got it from the original owner. It has a new 350 create motor with turbo 350 in it.. As soon as i got home i put it in the shop having the tranny built up. After it comes out i plan on pulling the stock manual fuel pump and quadrajet off and putting a holley 650 with electric fuel pump on it.. Ill also be putting 4:56s w/ lockers, 9 inches of lift and 38s or 40s under it.., among other things like headers, new oversized radiator, electric fans, trans cooler and trans temp guage.. Just want to know what you guys think.. Am i an the right track? Can i go that bigga lift and tires without 1 ton axles?? Any input will be great!

Damn.., alota people viewing but aint noone posting? Did i post this in the wrong section????

I would suggest a couple nights of reading thru the forum....

38's or 40's and 10 bolts, you better just idle around... you'll find regearing 1/2 ton stuff is usually a waste.. better off hunting down some 3/4 gear at least.. 40's are still gonna eat up balljoints on a 10 bolt, not to mention axles, yada..... 40's, I'd go right to tons...

and I'm doing 38's with 5" suspension, 1" body... depends if ya mind trimming...

oh, and I missed the carb thing.. why would you pull off the best offroad carb ever unless you where going EFI? not to diss on Holley, but Quadrabogs are excellent carbs...

Ok cool i may just still with a smaller tire.. I figured it was a waste to spend all that money regearing axles when you go go to 1 ton stuff..

Stick with the Quadrajet huh??? Well it runs like hell now which it may not be the carb i think the manual fuel is pump it shot.. this carb stuff is new to me.. Im use to just putting a cuztom tune in my LS1 car and laying down 9 sec passes but can tune the hell out of my drag bikes but the carb setups compared to this are totally different..

I have an unfair advantage over most, in the marine biz, I rebuild a 1/2 dozen quads a year, at least.. it's a very simple rebuild... best advice is to spend $20 and get the bible on quadrabogs

and if ya got any tendency to be liberal with the silly pedal, I'd just do the damn 60 up front right off the bat with a 38 or larger.. 35's, ya'd be alright......

Why are the Quads so much better than say a 650 holley, duel feed with vacume secondarys, cuz thats what im looking at buying..

eh, thats a bag o' dynomite waiting for a match....

it's the best off camber carb, out of the box, period... better mileage, a few other personal opinion reasons...

cool ill look into keeping it. Going to a electric pump for sure tho.

Im fixing it up to basicly look good and ease around during the summer with the top off and have fun with the wife and kid. It will go off road some but very little.. Maybe pull down to the deer stand or something..

Definitely stay with the quadrabog. You do realize that at the minimum you would be loosing at least 100 CFM going with that holly.

The quad came in 2 sizes 750 CFM and 800 CFM. The high angle, off camber performance of the quadrajet is way better than just about any other carb out of the box. They don't call them hillbilly fuel injection for nothing.

Cheers,

Rufus

Cool i work with a mechanic that has a 800 quad in great shape he said he would give to me.. Would the 800 be to big for my 350 create engine??

The nice thing about the quad is that it is vacuum secondary (usually) and spread bore. It really allows you to "overcarb" a motor and not be hurt by it. Normally I would say 800 is way too much for a stock 350 but with a quad you can get away with it.

Cool what pressure do the quads run at? I know the holleys are 5-7lbs..

Cool, then my holley blue electric pump with regulator will work just fine!

Here is the best advice I can give you.

You are a racer. With a racing background. Looking at your truck from a racers point of view. You need to step back a bit and keep it simple.

For your plans, it doesn't need super sick race parts. Just fix what it has, maybe put an exhaust on it, give it a bit of lift maybe 4-6" and 35 to 37" tires. Keep it simple. The more user friendly it is, the more you will enjoy driving it.

LOL! I know what your saying but i cant help it, its in my blood! Hell i already ordered, ceramic coated long tubes, holley blue electric fuel pump, manual block off, new seats, new steering wheel, new oversized radiator, flexalite electric fan, all new guages. Still deciding on the carb, lift and tires.. I have decided, not to go over about 6" inches lift and 37" tires till later on and i get 1 ton axles..
