Just how much money have you dumped into that GM Truck?

"rjfguitar - Somewhere around $25K, but I'm almost done at this point"

It shows man - your K5 is complete bad ass....

I've lost count......

it started over 15 years ago when I saw this old worn out K5 for sale in a parking lot.....It was a 79 and at that time it was 16 years old....

It ran on 5 cylinders, the other 3 were just going along for the ride...had a 350/203 in it and had rust holes you could throw a cat thru....

I spend the next year swapping in a crate 454 HO and replacing body parts and a compete paint job..

the big block destroyed the T-350 trans....so in went a built T-400.

then the 10 bolt front end broke,,,
then the 12 bolt rear broke....
in went a D60 and 14BFF....

then the transfer case exploded.....
in went a 205 transfer case...

then I bolted on the blower and twin 750 holley's.....

then the transmission case cracked....
in went built T-400 #2...

then I twisted off driveshafts...
in went 4 - 1410 yokes and 3" drive shafts..

then I cut off the body which by now had seen several years of off road use and was getting mashed up..
In went a full cage....
and beadlocks,,with TSL's 44's

off came the blower and on went a manifold and q-jet...

off came the 8" lift and on went 4" ORD springs and shackle kits..
and crossover steering with a hydro steering kit and pump...
a set of march pulley's for the engine...ORD mounts and crossmember..

off to BB 08 !!

came back from BB 08....

on went a DIY4x4 rear shock kit .....

and as of right now the trans is out of her,,,and I just recieved my doubler and 203 case,,triple sticks..205 shift rails... input gear for the 205...and adapter plate....new torque converter....

so yeah.....it never ends.....:D

your forum name says it all man...

I don't think I have close to $20k in all my vehicles I have owned in the last 11 years and that includes more than a dozen GM trucks, I have however never had a nice looking truck, just good decent looking and good mechanicals that I put on myself, never paid for any work, and never bought new parts, my house was and still is a junkyard and has at any moment at least 4 non running GM truck and a couple running, with half a dozen engines 5 trannies and a few tcases.

My 77 is my cheep build . I got a 80 4x4 for free from a guy that combines for us, it was rusted out and nothing worked. I got the 77 body from a guy for 400.00 it was a two wheel drive, with no motor. I sold some parts of the 77 that I didn`t need, that covered the cost of buying it. Then I got a 76 4x4 for free from our machenist freinds, but he wanted the axels back, that was ok because it had a factory tack, gun rack and I neaded the front springs.

So I put it all together and I got around 300.00 into it.

It`s still a pos that neads alot of work, put it`s getting there.

Now I nead to spend some money on it, but still keep it cheep, that way if it`s not worth nothing it`s not worth selling if we need money for other things.

If I look at it this way, I have made money on all my vehicles combined.
I lived off selling my parts and trucks for 8 months when I lost my job and I still have too many to fit on my property, and I made just in those 8 months more than twice what I have put in all my vehicles combined.:dunno:
My wife said to me when I was home on the computer all day selling my trucks:
I guess it was good you had this kind of hobby, I don't know if my brother's hobby of collecting 1:64 scale model cars would get him any money if he needed to sell.
And I said:
:D

I just got mine it's an 1983 I got $500 in the blazer and $100 for a battery and looking at paint floor boards for driver and passanger as well as trans rebuild, so I guesstimate about $2000-$3000 for paint floor pans and trans rebuild, so far :)

$18,7xx, and I barely have a pile of parts that make noise...

Around $12000 put into it the way it sits... Given to me by my parents and all work done by me. Amount spent is pretty much parts only.
Still needs bumpers, driveshafts, cage, seats and harnesses. Miscellaneous other little parts....

77 K5 blazer less motor but with a lot of rust 0 dollars
78 C30 with new 454 engine and 10 36" military tires 0 dollars
Not having a wheeler up and running after the worst storm in years ...... priceless

Yeah, I never kept track. I have receipts but never added them up. Prolly around 20K because of how picky I am with it. My first vehicle and all. I've had it for 13 years now. I need to take some more pics of her cleaned up with the top back on.

I got 10 grand in my kids 72 blazer this year including the 4000 to by it. still about 3-4 to go. then 3000 to buy my 85 k5 and i havent even started on it. but current plans are ranging in the 10k zone.

Horton is probably the cheapest rig I have built. Because nothing was bought. All trades and stuff. I estimate I will have 15 in the jimmy before I am done and about the same into my crew cab
