Well it's been a long time coming but I'm finally tearing into my rear end project...

On the agenda tonight was stripping everything off the frame and undoing all the wiring and other stuff attached to the bed. Then pull the bed, springs, shocks and anything else in my way... :D

are you losing the bed all together and tubing it out, or...? Why did you remove the bed?

avery I have the same question..

Im thinking he just wants everything cleaned up, fresh and easy to get to while he does it. If its for tube..you need to call me so I can slap you through the phone.

I'm going to tube out the back with a halo behind the cab (a full cage is in the works down the road but for now this is a start). I'll cut the bedsides off the bed and come up with a way to quickly attach/remove them to the tube but I'm going to do a mini-boatside so the front of the bedsides will be at the normal width and the rear will be frame width.
My plan right now is to get the suspension done but I figured since the tube/bed work is next on my list I might as well remove it now... plus it makes it really easy to work on stuff without the bed in the way :)

avery.. do not cut up your first truck, I cant count on one hand the number of trucks and blazers I went through.. each with the same end result. If you love this truck.. do not start tubing it out.. Build another and you will still be able to enjoy this one in ten years.

If you still hell bent though, take pics:D

It's just a bed... I can get another one in a junkyard any day of the week... the idea is to do some preventative building so instead of thrashing it then adding tube and protection I'm going to do it first.
For dune runs I'll bolt the bedsides on but for trails I'll just run the tube.

I don't have the funds to have another truck so this one is getting built... Oh and yeah I've got the camera handy! :D

YES!

Sounds like fun. You pay my fuel, I'll cruise down and give you a hand... :wink1:

How about I put that money towards finishing the truck and down the road I'll meet you up north sometime and you can show me a local trail.... ;)

sheet metal is so nice!

Man I wanna cry the sheet metal on your truck is so.....sweet! I would find a beater....... Cutting it up is a crime. However its your rig! let the :grind::hack: and :weld: begin.

Good luck

Really I am just jealous that mine is not looking that good! Is yours a 6 or 8 foot bed?
I know finding beds in great shape is pretty hard in MD
cheers

So it begins!!!Glad to see your off to a good start. By the amount of guys saying don't do it and I wish, you might think about finding another bed. I can help find one with my bargining skills.

I figured we could find something if need-be... I know a lot of guys are saying not to do it but like I said before I'd rather cut it up nice and cleanly now rather than wait until the whole thing is trashed.
If it was something like a 1st gen blazer or had some rare feature to it I wouldn't cut it up but honestly it's a standard ol' run of the mill '85 1/2 ton pickup... heck it even has a salvage title so it's not like I'm chopping up a rare piece of history... let the sparks fly! :grind::weld::hack::thumb:

my thoughts exactly. they're a dime-a-dozen. TONS of straight ones available on the cheap on CL.
