K10 Back-half Revamp! **posted wheelin' pics**

Yeah I finished grinding and hammering all the old stuff off from the hitch... at least enough to have clearance for the bracket.
Nah I didn't have the energy to mess with the bolt... I'll work on it tomorrow after lunch.

What about those F*rd springs?Did they bolt right up?Any problems with width? What exactly are they off of?Sorry about the minor rant earlier. You are right.Wheeling anything is better than it looking good at the drive-thru.

Newer F150 I believe.

Longer = more flex, better ride.

How much lift are those good for Avery?

These particular ones are out of a '94 F150 I found in the junkyard... the truck was very straight and clean and the bed looked new so I'm confident in saying these springs had an easy life... up until now :)
They are 57" long so I'd imagine it's going to end up with about the same amount of lift as Chevy 56's but these are really soft so to be honest I'm not sure... I'll bolt up the other pack tomorrow and get the axle hung then lift it up by the pumpkin to see what it looks like with all the sprung weight pressing on them...
I'd guess between the shackle flip brackets, 6" shackles and these 57's I'm going to be around 5-6" of lift.

Yeah they bolt right up. They're the same width as the chevy springs so you don't have to mess with anything...
One major thing to be heads up about though is they apparently use different size bolts from front to back (what Chevysmithz71 was talking about earlier)... the front of the spring uses a 1/2" bolt and the rear uses a 9/16"... I didn't realize this and hit the 9/16" bolt through the front hanger and jammed it into the bushing so I'll have to deal with that tomorrow.

Running some sort of an anti-wrap bar or something?

I guess down the road I'll run one but since this is a combination of a bunch of new parts I'm not sure how it's going to ride so I'll get it together, get my bump stops and limiting straps on then run it and go from there as to whether or not I need a traction bar.

if you're going bedless - why are you running the bump stops? to keep from bottoming out your shocks?

The bumpstops are to keep from over compressing the springs .And I think he wants to jump it at the dunes .They can only handle being pushed into a negative arc so many times before they are trashed and eventually break :D

I know.Because I dont have any bumpstops in the rear :p:

Ryan (chevysmithz71) came over this afternoon to help so we managed to make a little more progress...
The only stuff I still need to get/track down is a longer brake line (having one made up tomorrow between my morning and night classes), some new axle shims since my old ones are aluminum and they're pretty beat up, and I need to shorten my rear d-shaft but I can do that at work once I get it all together and get an exact measurement...

The old centering pins are quite scary... I picked up some new ones tonight...
Oh and we found a good way to plug up brake lines... ear plugs! :)

Wow...what made the pins bend like that?

Whatever happened to your neighborhood watch and all that BS about not being able to have vehicles in the yard and under construction and the tickets and yadda yadda...?

I'm not sure why they bent like that except maybe they were too small from the get-go. I went and got some larger diameter (largest that will fit through the hole in the spring pack) grade 8 bolts so I should be good to go now...

The neighborhood is putting up with me for now... I work during the days and try to be a quiet as possible. Honestly the way I'm setup right now (minus the big blue tarp) I don't think they can say anything because it's on the driveway... last time it was on that patch of grass in the background of all the pictures.
Plus I pull in all the tools/parts, sweep up and spray down the driveway every single night since I've been working so it looks nice and clean.

Looks Good. Are you going to install a SYE kit now if your getting shaft work done? What's the blue tarp for-Rain or Sun protection?Scary on the pins:eek1:

Well if Fresno is anything like Clovis, the city doesnt have money to enforce code violations.

In Clovis they wont come out unless its a health or safety issue :D

Sun protection... it's like 90* here!
An SYE kit would be really nice but for now I'm going to cut down my current shaft and weld it up at work... we have a balancer too so I can make sure it's good to go before I slap it in. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a d-shaft until I get my transfer case situation figured out.

We were talking about it tonight but what do you guys think I should do as far as the slip goes?
Before it was setup so the d-shaft sat about 2-3" out of the TC (you can see the rusted spot in the picture) and the rest was inside the case... should I cut it down so it ends up the same or should I even out my inward/outward slip?

Yeah I doubt Fresno has any money right now...

BUT that won't stop them from handing out BS violations... I just need to hurry. :D

HEY! Have any axle shims laying around I could buy off ya'? :deal:

If it were me,I would probably wait until it was back together and see what you have for droop/stuff and decide from there.90 is vacation weather. We are going to hit 70 this week and there is only about a foot of snow left to melt.

Yeah that's probably the best bet... I can get everything bolted together then flex it out both ways and measure from the yoke on the diff to the output on the TC both ways and see what kind of in/out slip we're looking at.

do you have any plans for a bed floor or will it be all tube with bolt on sides?

Im kinda torn about cutting up a nice truck. you've got a dang nice truck to start with. part of me loves a nice body with good paint and factory body lines and the other part loves to see modification and even hammered sheet metal. I regret cutting and beating up my first truck but I learned alot and its helped me out with my current truck.

anyway, good luck with your plan. I will enjoy seeing how it turns out.
