K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

Ok so here comes the fun stuff, what's currently going on with the k10.

I decided I wanted to build it once and build it right.
So I bought a '79 high pinion ford 60...

Came with 35 spline cromo outers...

Any pics of the trail that killed your sheet metal?

It's all from that Coyote/Red trail. I don't have pics of specific spots because most of the trail is/can be a sheetmetal killer. The main problem in my case is I don't have low enough gears to really crawl with finess, match that with my stupid holley carb that doesn't like altitude (the top of that trail is at 10,000 feet) and I still had push/pull steering and it was just a mess.

I ordered an ORD weld in frame brace to compliment my bolt in brace that's already on the truck as well as a bunch of stuff from Kert to help with the upcoming build.

Then as if the HP60 wasn't enough of a money pit I went and got crazy. I was planning on running a 241 out of an '88-'98 to compliment my new driver's side axle. It would bolt up to my built 700r and things would be pretty easy.
Then I started thinking how much of a bummer it would be to do all that work, make new d-shafts then down the road have to change it all because I built a doubler.

So I started looking around for doubler ideas and decided on a 241/205 doubler due to the flexibility of gearing it provides compared to a conventional 203/205 doubler as well as the weight savings. Well woudn't you know it I found a guy on Pirate that had a 241/205 doubler utilizing a twin sticked ford 205 so it'd work with my driver's drop HP60. Coudn't pass it up so last Saturday my dad and I drove 250 miles down to Los Angeles, bought it, ate a burger and drove 250 miles home.

I got some cable shifters with it too...

Phew! Took longer than I thought to get myself a build thread going and updated from square one! :)

Ok so here's where we're at. I'm planning on taking the axles up north to WFO and they're getting 5.38's and a detroit in the 14b and an ARB in the 60. I'm also going to get some cromo inner shafts to go with the 35 spline cromo outers I already have. I figure like the doubler, do it once, do it right.
So those will go under the truck without too many hurdles. I need to get a 2wd steering box and the reverse high steer will go on at that point too. I'm just running the 4" lift springs I currently have until the truck is all back together and done then I'll address those.

I bought a quadrajet off a pre smog small block from a guy in my club that I'm going to have rebuilt and I'll put that on in place of my holley. It'll be my poor man's injection for this next phase of the truck.

As far as the big picture goes in the next few months the doubler will go in (it's currently 32 spline but I bought a 27 spline input off 1-tonmudder), the HP60 will go in with steering and as time permits the cage work will continue.

I'm tired of updating and picture hunting, that's all for now folks! :)

Cool to see a concise version of your story! :) Can you post some more pics of how you mounted your shocks? I need to change out my shocks in the not too distant future and was thinking of going with something like what you've got.

I didn't see this post but judging where you posted it in the build they were all just on factory mounting points. Later on in the build they got moved to cast ford towers in the front on some of DIY4X's shock tabs on the axle and stamped ford shock towers in the rear and the bottom was mounted on the spring plates with some tabs.

This is one of my favorite trucks on here. I'm enjoying watching the evolution.

Looks like the only thing you are missing is some fuel injection. Get rid of that carb. They don't work so great on the steep climbs...been there

Injection is nice but I think he'll be happy with a good q-jet for a while.

Ive had my rig on its side with a q-jet I built and it ran fine. Only trouble Ive had from my q-jet was a near verticle climb and I lost traction at the top first, after idling for about 30 seconds it loaded up and died.

I do plan on injection or propane though:whistle:

You got some real great pics of your 4x4ing trips!:thumb:

Nice group of rigs...they are all sweet, sorry I have a thing for toyotas, I really like the 55.

You'll probably like it even more if ya knew its actually a blazer. :) 70/60 Detroit rear arb front with 5.86's, 465/203/205 doubler. Really cool rig.

I did know that!
He posted a thread on here a while back...wasn't it don't hate me for doing this...or something like that, too cool!:thumb:

I like your truck too!! But I have owned 3 Landcuisers and they are just something about them that makes me smile.

Why not buy a used TBI setup instead of messing with another carb? Seems to go against your do it right, do it once philosophy.

Dang man! I didnt realize your truck had come so far! Good job! Looking forward to watching this next phase.

Wow, didn't know you were going D60, doubler, etc.

Good work. Your skills have come a long way!

I got this carb for basically free and it'll work fine for now. This engine is getting tired so it'll be swapped for something in the future. I just needed something to get by this next wheeling season.

I hear ya there, but TBI setups are dirt cheap as well. I am not sure how many I have now. I've parted out at least 4 TBI equipped vehicles.
